Very busy but service barely adequate.food great but service dissapointing
Food was good, highly recommend the pork chop. Dessert was very good. Service was amazing!!
Great service and tasty cocktails!
We have eaten at The Raymond Restaurant a few times, but this was our first visit in over a year and a half. The food was mostly very good. We shared a kale salad, prawns, bread, sea bass, brussels sprouts, french fries and broccolini. All of the food was prepared well and tasted good, although the broccolini was just average.
The problem we had last night was with the service. I had made a reservation on Open Table and in the comments I asked for outdoor seating and gave a heads-up that it was my wife's birthday. When we arrived, the host asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating, and he did not acknowledge our special occasion. I feel like he should have seen this in the system. It was never really clear who our main server was. We were served various dishes by different people, and nobody ever checked on us once we started eating the main course. We received the kale salad and prawns appetizer quickly, but then we sat for 30-45 minutes with nothing else. My wife asked a bus boy for the bread we had ordered and he brought it. Eventually the rest of our meal came and other tables who had arrived at the same time as us were leaving by then! Nobody ever checked in to let us know why there was such a long delay, and there were no apologies. A waiter earlier in the evening had noticed my wife's gift and cards, and said, "Oh, we have a birthday." Her birthday was never acknowledged again by anyone, and we did not order dessert. I felt like for a birthday, they should have been on top of doing something. Nothing. I'm not sure if our table was shifted between servers, or if our order was put in very late, but I expect much better service at The Raymond. We felt forgotten. I am so happy that they are back fully open, and I'm sure everyone there is dealing with getting back to normal, but common customer service from waiters and/or a manager was certainly in order and we did not receive that. Again, the food was very good, and we'll be back, but just disappointing.
We have been to the Raymond many times but this was our first since the pandemic. Food was top notch - better than I ever remembered. Drinks are always great as it’s an excellent bar. Service was slow and under pressure from light staffing I believe.
This place is absolutely awesome! Delicious food, super friendly and professional stuff, great cocktails and charming vibe. Go there on a date, dinner with friends, and trust me your mom will love it too. Classic and special. We’ll be back.
This was my first time at The Raymond Restaurant. Great brunch! Servers are fabulous! Valet parking was definitely a plus and very professional.
Outstanding evening. The outdoor dining area is intimate and pleasant. The food and service made for a wonderful evening.
Waitress was great but kitchen heavily backed up. Seems unorganized.
Patrick our server was very nice and pleasant making us feel right at home. Your drinks are SENSATIONAL, we had the revivor#1 followed by the Lyons tail and OMG I WILL Go BACK JUST FOR THAT DRINK the Lyons became my favorite of all time.
Definitely a two thumbs up!!!
Lunch was quiet and delicious! We ate inside and had the whole room to ourselves. It is a lovely old restaurant and good food.
Wonderful food and cocktails. Beautiful patio setting.
Food was great. Service was great. Great place for good food and a drink. We will be back.
One of our favorite Pasadena restaurants with lots of charm! Great outdoor seating spaces! We highly recommend The Raymond!
Host was a bit pretentious. We asked if there was a bar and he said we had to be seated to get a drink and there’s a 2 hour limit at your table and your time starts when I seat you. Well it was 7:30 and our reservation was for 7:45. The place closes at 9pm so didn’t quite understand the need for the 2 hour comment or the attitude with which he explained it. Other than that the appetizers where amazing.
Patio was beautiful. Food was delicious. Drinks were strong.
Unfortunately, the server was not trained in food allergens. I have an autoimmune disease and dairy causes painful flare ups for me. I asked for dairy free options, and he suggested the steak. When it was brought out, it had a sauce on it that clearly was dairy based. When I asked him if it had dairy in it, he confidently said no. When I asked if it had butter made from cow’s milk in it, he said yes. He then said his partner had a dairy allergy, so he understood. But I think his partner just has lactose intolerance, or he would have ACTUALLY understood that butter = dairy.
I ended up switching meals with my friend, since the server said that meal definitely didn’t have dairy in it. However, I was extremely unwell and flared up the next morning, so that definitely wasn’t true. It’s a good thing I didn’t have a true dairy allergy, or I would have ended up in the hospital.
I would expect a nice restaurant like the Raymond to properly train their servers in food allergens. If you don’t have dietary restrictions, the restaurant is great. If you do, I would not recommend this restaurant.
Great pasta & cheesecake option tonight! It was awesome
We have been there many times and this was disappointing. It was my wife' birthday and the server made no effort to serve the cake we brought (may be Covid related) and she did not even acknowledge her birthday and they were informed of it. Also she failed to ask everyone at the table what their drink order was. May have been an off day....we will go back at some time and try it again. Food was a little off the mark as well. This is usually a solid place to go for a lovely evening.
Perfect birthday dinner for our small party. Can’t believe we never tried this before. Food is delicious including tomahawk steak, sea bass and chicken and desserts. Manager is great. Server was great. All the staff have been awesome. Definitely will come back.
Unfortunately not a good one. They had under-planned for the evening and ran out of Sea Bass by 7:30. When the alternative order arrived of Jidori Chicken the portion was ridiculously small. Looked like a Rock Cornish Game Hen. The manager explained that was the standard portion, but did bring an additional portion. Unfortunately, we never should have asked for more because it was incredibly overcooked and inedible. On the positive side, the short ribs were wonderful. We were comped for the chicken dish and also treated to an incredible deconstructed cheesecake with lemon curd dessert that was sublime. Our server was great but crushed by the kitchen's lack of preparedness and constantly apologizing to us and all of her nearby tables for the wait. One party left at 9pm not having been served and sitting down with us at 7:30. We do not plan a return visit until they hire more servers and change the chef.
We requested to be on the patio. Table was ready and waiting, service and food both amazing. Wonderful time
Brunch was amazing. Our server was very attentive and courteous. The ambiance was perfect. I cannot wait for our next reservation.
Couldn’t have been more wonderful!!!
Kudos to Nikki!!!!!!
Everything was great, but please turn down the volume of the music. It’s too loud to enjoy
Dates are delicious.. we felt a bit rushed.
This was our first time dining at The Raymond and we absolutely loved it. We arrived at 4:30 PM, 30 minutes after the opened for the day. It was quiet and we almost had the place to ourselves. Service was quick and friendly, the drinks were incredible and the food was delicious. We will absolutely be returning!
Have been here before and loved it. They might of just had a off day.
Service was very slow, but the waiter was aware of that and apologetic. Check-in was also disorganized. Food was average but the sitting in the garden is a magical experience.
I went for dinner Sunday evening.
Great service, the server was very attentive and welcoming. The food quality was great. The price was a little steep for the portions. Over all I would definitely go there again.
I’m interested in going to brunch next.
Need to train servers to be ahead of guests requests. Food was fair, small portions for price, some bland, some not.
Always a favorite for birthday's, anniversary. Had a belated Mother's Day brunch. Gift from our daughter. We ate outside on the patio area. Food and service excellent.
Relaxing and delicious
Nice place for brunch. Very quite place. Food is yummy.
Good but had to wait a lot
wife's birthday, special event, special restaurant
They continue to deliver, even through covid. As we make our way back to a state of normalcy, The Raymond is set up for success and will be just as good as it's prior glory! The fact that they can do what they are doing on a skeleton crew and deliver delicious food and outstanding cocktails just means it's going to be great come June 15 and beyond.
Reservations were easy to make. We had brunch on the side patio with the fireplace. It was our first time at a restaurant since March 2020. We got mimosas and toasted every big event we missed celebrating because of the pandemic. Tables were far apart and safety was the Raymond’s main focus. I felt very safe. The food was wonderful, I got the frittata. YUMMY! It was a beautiful patio, a beautiful day, and a very nice experience.
We had a great time and the food and drinks were delicious. Such a great atmosphere.
Typically would recommend this restaurant. However, our latest visit had horrible service possibly as they recently opened their indoor dining. Our waiter was not knowledgeable about the menu or did not have the time to go over it. Waiter and servers would only drop off the plates and walk away right after without explanation of items dropped off. We rarely saw our waiter.
Food and drink-wise, it has been as usual. Cocktails have been standout, appetizers mostly tend to be well made and entrees can be hit or miss (not bad enough to complain too much). I do wonder where their dessert cocktail selection went this visit.
All the food was exceptional especially the desserts
