The Raymond Restaurant
The restaurant is housed in the former caretaker's cottage of the storied Raymond Hotel. It is a slice of Pasadena’s historic past and carries on it's great traditions of hospitality and architecture with it's indoor cottage seating and outdoor craftsman style patios.

The experience was very poor, server was lovely but did forget 2 of our starters, the cod was super fishy and they forgot to turn on the heater, had to ask numerous times. Not worth the money, will not be back.
I ordered the New York steak-one of the higher priced items. The steak arrived CUT IN CHUNKS- casserole type with roast potatoes- more potatoes than steak. I believe the menu item was listed only as grilled New York steak (and showed vegetables with it.)
On the plus side, the service and ambiance were good. The people were very nice and apologetic for the misunderstanding. They provided a free cocktail and a dessert.
Went on 19/13/19. Arrived at 5:30pm after a theater performance. Had drinks in the bar area (Aperol spritz).
Had dinner at 6:00pm so our area was perfect (booth and no one else around). Had the Artisanal Baguette. The butter were delicious as was the bread. We both had the salad with feta cheese. Was good. The special was rib eye steak. It came with roasted baby carrots and potatoes but we also had a side of roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I don’t remember what they put on the sprouts but they was fantastic. The steaks was done medium rare as we requested.
We had a glass of wine (Merlot) and since it was my GF birthday, they provided a dessert which we shared
The bill including tip was $300.
For a special occasion and a splurge, I would come again.
The server was attentive but not overly so. The thing that they should mention when they discuss any special is the cost which I had to ask.
We had to wait about 15 minutes but they more than made up for this with glass of champagne while waiting; and very generous, free selection of pastries and fruit as soon as we were seated.
I have been dining at The Raymond since it first opened back in the 80s and had never disappointed. From brunch to dinner to winemaker dinners we keep coming back. In the latest iteration they have a cocktail program that is as good as anyone, and the food and service remains first rate. Highly recommended.
Our first time at The Raymond was amazing. We will come back with all the family many many sundays! Chilaquiles are great!
We have a lovely evening. The food was very good, some things were excellent. The Beets and Peaches, Hummus and fresh bread were excellent. We had a Rib-eye, and it was was good. If I had to do it again, we would stick with the small plates. They are wonderful. We really enjoyed our Old Fashioned. I am a bit of a snob with this cocktail, and this was one of the best I've every had.
The Raymond never disappoints. My husband and I celebrated his birthday on a Wednesday evening. We enjoyed cocktails on the patio and dinner in the outside seating. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful and made his birthday so very special! The chocolatey tiramisu was to die for!
I was born in Pasadena and The Raymond has always been a little "gem" hidden away off the freeway; it's truly a wonderful place to have any meal; the ambiance is wonderful; wish there was more of a selection on the menu but they do the very best with what food they serve. Almost like having a meal in your friend's dining room.
Service was fantastic, we got two appetizers, two main courses and dessert and it was all spectacular. Cocktails were extra special too. Highly recommend!
It wasn’t what I expect of a meal in this price range. The limits on the ratings don’t tell the whole story. Some things were good. Our server was good. The food was uneven and slightly above average. The inside is pretty. The outside not great at night. Uninspired.
Great atmosphere and quiet patio with superb service. Good food but not always great. All told it is a must eat at place in Pasadena due to its great staff!
Way overpriced for Mexican dish that I had and was not even that good :(
Patio dining was lovely for Sunday Brunch. It would be even better with live acoustic music! Food is good, service is good, parking is problematic and $5 for valet seems too high.
We had a tasteful and refreshing experience, taking advantage of the well designed outdoor tables!
The website menu doesn’t reflect the menu in the restaurant. The food looked sloppy, no presentation, and it was undercooked. But we were both starving, having not eaten that day, and our server didn’t come around that often, so we didn’t feel like waiting longer.
The Raymond delivered a perfect dining experience on its understated and elegant patio. Unique craft cocktails, delicious oysters, perfect perfect perfect octopus, must-have herbed cauliflower. The duck breast was rich and crispy. Farrow some of the best. The sole cooked perfectly with herbed broth. Admittedly the chef likes salt - a style of preparation that’s delicious but assertive and full flavored. Pavlova was perfect, not cloyingly sweet. Thanks to Raymond for a total joy.
Disappointed. Not enough wait staff, despite the restaurant not being full. Long wait times for food and drink. Orders nor correct, food cold, long wait times to fix food, always looking for the wait staff for things like a fork, more coffee.
Food and service both excellant. Enjoyed the cover patio very much.
Great food, as per usual. Atmosphere is what is so great. Our sever remembers us each time and we hope we never get anyone else. Wish we remembered her name.
Decent food, poor service. Seems to be a theme here.
Wonderful ambiance with superior service. The food was delicious. This was our first visit, I am sure there will be many more.
Our waiter Jose was excellent. He made us feel very welcome and checked in on us frequently.
The atmosphere at the restaurant was great, we sat outside and it was cool under the shade of trees. However, the wait time was so long over 40mins, and when finally our food came, my husband’s BLT was served cold. Also there is valet parking only, for a fee of 5 dollars. There isn’t space to park your car yourselves. You have no choice but to use valet. I had such high expectations for this place from other peoole’s reviews and I must say there wasn’t anything wow about this restaurant unfortunately...
Absolutely wonderful experience. The service was excellent; I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to a restaurant in Los Angeles that had truly exceptional service. The Raymond has it in spades. The ambiance was delightful. And the food was fantastic. This place is extraordinary. Please check it out for yourself.
Celebrating a birthday over lunch at The Raymond. Midweek - there were very few patrons. The menu on Open Table is not the correct version - as acknowledged by the server. The servers were great. Had to ask for items listed that kitchen neglected to include. Learned that there is a new Chef soon - wondering if The Raymond is going through another transition? The venue is lovely.
Simple lunch with a friend. She had the curry which she said was excellent! I had the BLT which usually has spicy bacon but they didn’t have that this time. But it was still a decent sandwich. The patio is my preferred seating and even on this very hot day it was pleasant with fans running overhead. Nice to have this special place as a neighborhood fixture.
We’ve been to The Raymond frequently for dinner, drinks, etc but never for brunch and I couldn’t recommend it more highly! The food was absolutely phenomenal!
The Raymond was awesome as usual! The only only down part which I would say is not my normal experience was my Cobb Salad. It was bland, sparse in blue cheese and very dry.
Enjoyed a leisurely with family...I'm from out of town. We were all happy with our meals, especially my niece who had the hard to find Dutch Baby.
After making a reservation, we were told how busy they were and had to wait in the bar until they could squeeze us in. Noisy. Forgot about an appetizer we ordered. My steak was over salted. For a stared restaurant, not great.
It was my first time here and I enjoyed myself very much. Our server Ashton was very helpful with recommendations and always kept our glasses full. My only complaint is that they do not serve the carrot appetizer anymore i was really looking forward to that.
We had a beautiful birthday dinner on the patio. The soft lighting, complete with a special old fashioned mini hurricane lantern flame, made the warm night very peaceful. The service was equally warm, and there was a great variety on the menu. This was some of the best tasting food we have enjoyed in a long time.
The Raymond is a great place with really nice breakfasts dishes. Very nice patio seating, and bar area.
It was our anniversary. Thought we would receive a small dessert compliments of restaurant.
Came in with my son while I visited from out of state. Loved the style of the place- it reminded me of an Inn I dine at near Boston. After reading the history of the place, makes sense! Food was great and service was awesome. I’ll be back when I visit here again!
The menu has changed but not in a good way. Appetizer was undercooked, steak salad is not a separate selection now but an added protein to a pitiful selection of blah salads
After years of being a perennial lunch place for me, it is now off the list entirely
My husband and I haven't been to The Raymond in a number of years, their menu had changed, it was a smaller menu for dinner. We had a variety of appetizers, hummus, mussels, roasted cauliflower, all very tasty. Our entrees were the salmon, duck and pork chop, again very good presentation. We sat in the patio and nice to see the evening light coming in thru the planted trees and an ambience water fall. Very pleasant! If I had a recommendation I would advise the staff to pay closer attention to the customers, as they would disappear and didn't come by to check if we needed anything. The waiter also poured coffee into my mug of tea, having forgotten there was a pot of tea on the table. It's the little things that make a difference and it seems they were not as on the ball as they could of been. Having said this, we may go back again on a weekend to see if it is any different.
