The Ravenous Pig: An American Gastropub Ratings and Reviews
Over the years this has been a special occasion place for us, however, while the food was good, it was much more expensive than comparable local restaurants and the portion sizes were significantly less. Won't be going back unless they increase meal value. Wait staff was not as helpful as other local restaurants.
This was the first visit for my wife and I to the Ravenous Pig since it relocated. The renovations to the former Cask and Larder are impressive. Unfortunately, my lack of familiarity with the new setup caused me to accept a table right at the front door and it was uncomfortable and very cold. Despite a resevation request for a booth, we were told this was the only available table. Next time I will know to insist on a two person booth along the wall by the bar. I felt a bit better after an outstanding bloody mary arrived. My wife and I had the "Gatherer" salad that was excellent. My wife chose the Grouper that was excellent but she did not like the roasted garlic sauce on the rice. I had the Steak Frites. The steak was good- not great and fortunately the steak sauce on the side provided some addtional flavor. The truffle fries were excellent. We plan to return soon and hope for a better overall experience.
The food is absolutely delicious and fresh. The service is exceptional. We went there for my mom’s birthday and even the menu they gave us was personalized to say Happy Birthday for her. Really great place for a special occasion as they definitely go out of their way to make you feel special.
We have enjoyed the RP for several years, but lost touch when they moved to the new location.
The occasion was my wife's Birthday and each employee we met wished her a happy birthday - a nice touch.
The new place is very nicely decorated and comfortable. It was pretty crowded for mid-week, but the noise level was not intrusive.
Our server made the evening by being attentive but not overly so and sharing her knowledge of the dishes and the wines.
The food was done perfectly and the tastes and serving size were perfection.
The birthday dessert was very good and went well with the delicious coffee.
This is a restaurant that is well worth a return visit anytime.
Our family of six ate here on New Years night. We normally love the RP, but this time ordered the wrong dish- The duck Casoulet. It was way too salty and dry. The two who ordered it couldn’t eat more than a few bites. The female manager came over, offered apologies and two comped desserts, very nice but left us thinking that we won’t go back for awhile. Waiter was experienced, funny and good. Possibly NYears day dinner isn’t the best night to eat out?
We dined here on New Year's Eve--the food was excellent--but our server wasn't very friendly. The food arrived quickly, though, and I enjoyed the presentation (pork was served on a wooden board). The brussel sprouts were delicious. We moved to the bar area after dinner for a glass of wine, and really enjoyed the ambiance.
Hubby and I were in town to golf and celebrate NYE. A relative recommended The Ravenous Pig. I loved the dimmed lights and relatively quiet atmosphere. Maybe we had exceptionally polite neighbors at adjoining tables, but we were able to have a conversation without yelling, as seems to be typical these days. We started with a bread board and unique hand-crafted cocktails. I had the Gatherer Salad and gnocchi and hubby had fish. We enjoyed the meal from start to finish. Service was great. We will definitely return next time we're in the area.
A perfect meal in every way! From the oyster appetizer to the trio of sorbet and ice cream for dessert, it all works so very well. Very impressive wine list that dares to include a myriad of European wines rather than the usual domestics. Try the cheese biscuits for sure.
The food here is always exceptional. From start to finish you will be wowed. If the farmer salad and grilled octopus are on the starters order them both. That salad is hands down one of the best in Orlando. Everyone at our table had the spectacular burgers but I had the venison leg. ( So not very lady like but I love game meat) and it was fantastic. This place is one of favorites. My mom was visiting from NY and hadn't been there since they moved from the original location and she loved everything!!!
I have been to this restaurant many times. On this occasion, my prime rib sandwich was inedible, overly dry and for most of the table our fries were so salty we could not eat them. Our waiter did not come by to check on on us once the meal was served. I spoke with the manager on all of the above, my food was taken away, and I ordered something else. There was no apology at all and the manager had observed that the food was dry. The waiter did eventually come by to inorm me that the meal would be comped (good news since about 80% wentback to the kitchen). He also did not attempt to apologize and the replacement course, which I have had many times was equally awful. I have been coming to this restaurant for over a decade and will not go back. Most disappointing was the lack of response from the staff over a meal poorly executed.
Enjoyed. Yes they do take reservations and u may wait a short time for a table when u arrive but that enables them to allow more people to come each evening by overlapping just a little. Steak & Frites was great like other mentioned and why we tried it although we suggested the accompanying BBQ sauce would be better served at room temperature rather than ice old which, when one dipped or applied some to the steak rendered the steak cold. Apart from that minor issue it was great and certainly we would return. Good cosy dimly lit but not too dim ambiance. Service was professional, friendly and appropriate. Wine list was not extensive on the US wine front, but fair value when we checked in Vivino. Love a full bodied red with our steak! On site valet and self parking worked perfectly. Unlikely to disappoint but don’t go with the highest of expectations as one can always find fault when in that frame of mind.
Figure out a way to eat at The Ravenous Pig. Get an Old Fashioned with bacon infused bourbon. Beef Tartar was amazing. If the toast wasn’t as hard as concrete it would have been perfect. Order it anyway. Our group had the ravioli, brisket burger, grouper, and the steak frites. Burger was bland. Grouper was excellent. Ravioli amazing. But, all 4 of us felt the steak frites was the winner. Char on the steak was perfect.
We will be back often. Word of warning. It is impossible me to get there easily heading east on Fairbanks. Approach from another direction. Valet is convenient but can be dangerous if crowded backing up on to Fairbanks. Go anyway.
I like the Winter Park area but had never eaten at this restaurant; one that has consistently good reviews for food, service and variety. It definitely lived up to its expectations. We had salads and appetizers for dinner, which was plenty of food. Everything very fresh, nicely presented and well served. We had perfect pork bellies and fish tacos that combined lightly breaded shrimp with fun slaw, etc. Lots of beer and wine choices, fun cocktails, great dessert menu. If you’re in the Orlando area worth the ride to Winter Park (30 minutes) to get away from the hotel dominated high end dining and/or fast food and chain restaurants that dominate the area. It’s a unique place and not cheap but good value. Reservations strongly recommended.
My third time visiting the Pig, I have hold to review hoping for a change on the outcome, but for the third time the Cocktails were Amazing, food was good but cold and the service really slow. We were seating on a section with 2 big groups for the second time in a row and the server was really paying attention to the big tables, my 12 years old daughter mentioned that seems like he is more interested on the big tables. Our food came in relatively fast, but cold. I really tried to tell the server about it but it really took him more than 20 minutes t come back to our table. I understand when you have 2 big tables is kind of hard for them, but I shouldn't pay the price. I did had reservations for a party of 3. Service will always be the key to success. I know you guys are running a great place, but sometimes we all need some constructive criticism. I will be back hoping to edit my review.
Service was horrible Saturday night (12/16), she never checked on us and it took over 45 minutes to get our food. When the food finally arrived at the table two guests had cold steaks. I mentioned this to the server and she commented that the pork chop took longer to cook so the other (steak) dishes for the table were setting in the window waiting for the the pork chop to be done. Unbelievable... I felt bad because I recommended to the group that we try this place and everyone left disappointed. Definitely would not return to this place.
