Our table was ready when we arrived. The food and service was excellent.
We were terribly disappointed!! Our waitress was wonderful, however apparently there was a large party that caused us to be "left behind". Not only was our meal late getting to us but it was terrible!!!! My husbands chicken was tough as leather, his brussel sprouts were way over cooked. I had the Scallops, not even sure they were done, mushy is my best description, the rainbow carrots were very difficult to cut with a knife..much less chew them. We felt bad for our waitress so we did not complain but honestly, most of the time, we will give a restaurant a second chance, this one no,absolutely will never visit again!!
Never had a bad meal at the Railyard
The food here is really great! The appetizer was pretty big, which would have been nice for a larger party than just my husband and myself, but the entrees were delicious and perfectly sized.
We have been fans of The Railyard since it opened several years ago, but hadn't been since we had learned the original owner/chef moved on to open another restaurant.
Though we had reservations, we were met with news we'd have to wait until a table came open -all while we saw our name placard on the host's stand, instead of out in the restaurant. Maybe everyone there had been there for over an hour, who knows?
We were seated, and our waitress took our drink orders, then food orders. Then we waited. Salads came up pretty quickly, though not made as we had ordered. 45 minutes and no food later, we had passed the time watching our meals - along with 6 others - come up for pick up in the window of the kitchen. As the cook rang a pick up bell each time a plate was ready, not a single one of the wait staff - who were standing within 10 feet -made any movement to the window to get the orders for their tables.
Once it WAS picked up, our food was taken to another table. We commented that we must have been mistaken, it wasn't our order, only to have those same plates come back to our table, having been taken to the wrong place. We each took a bite of our dishes and not surprisingly, found them cold. We sent them back. Suddenly, a new face in the kitchen took charge and the whole kitchen and wait process improved 100%. Our meals were remade and delivered to our table, and this time they were hot and delicious.
During this whole dinner event, we kind of expected a manager to come to us to apologize for the cold meal fiasco. That never happened. After sitting there for an hour and forty-five minutes, we agreed there was no one in charge that night. If there was, they should be ashamed.
Summary - service was poor, wait staff is not attentive, and we felt more like an inconvenience than a guest with a reservation. The food- when served hot - was delicious. After several years of enjoying the Railyard, we won't be back. Very poorly managed.
Overall the experience was good but it took a really long time to get our food. We were there almost 2 hours. We have been there previously and it has never taken this long
Really nice alternative to all the standard eateries in Decatur.
Took a first time date that lives in Huntsville and she was extreamly pleased with my choice .
Food was excellant and atmosphere delightful .
We loved RailYard! Great atmosphere and the filet was outstanding. Definitely would recommend for a date night or night out with friends!
Service and ambiance were good. Food was ok. I could have gotten better food at a normal food chain restaurant
Just really good food and drinks. I love the Grouper Pontchartrain. Some unique drink selections too. And everything is reasonably priced.
Food was cold and appetizers was brought late. Very noisy inside.
Food was excellent!! I’d highly recommend! It would be nice if there were more private dining options. Instead of one open space. Overall great choice!
Fresh meat burgers and good ribeye sandwiches.
Our table was ready when we arrived and we were seated. The food came out hot and was delicious. I would recommend the shrimp and grits. 4 out of 6 of us ordered them.
We had a good experience. The taste and quality of the food is consistent. The RailYard is my “go to” place when I’m in Decatur.
Food was good, it took a long time to get seated with reservations. Server ( Sergio) was excellent.
I think it is worth trying the Railyard at least once. Our first visit was great. The second one was not bad but not great either. That was the day after Valentine's Day so they might have been very busy and worn out from the previous day. Good menu options. The big room gets loud because of all of the hard surfaces.
This is basically a bar that serves decent bar food, but then tries to offer some fine dining and seafood options. We had a table of 4 and one of us got a burger, which was very good. The seafood options were much pricier but failed to deliver on quality. They are trying too hard to be a fancier upscale restaurant and failing at that. If they stuck to the basic sandwiches and drinks they would earn a higher score.
Food was good, not great. I think they forgot to put the honey glaze on my salmon. Portion was a bit small. My wife’s dinner, scallops, was very good!! They were way behind!! Took us a hour to get our food. Appetizer was excellent. Overall it’s a nice restaurant with good food, but a little pricey for the quality. Server was attentive but was busy, took awhile to get my second drink during the hour long wait for the main course.
Food was wonderful. Great service. Was blown away by how great it was. Will definitely be coming back
Great food preparation and appetizing presentation together with very attentive service.
We have eaten here several times and it has been so good. However, I am not sure what happened tonight, Valentine's Day of all days. It was just OK from food to service....meh. The drinks from the bar were OK and our entrees were OK. The best things about the night was the company and the appetizers. The fried crab cakes and the savory cheesecake with blue crab were absolutely wonderful!!
I had the salmon and rice and carrots. The salmon was ok but not great, the rice was dry and plain and the carrots were pretty but not cooked enough. My husband had the filet and crab cake and said it was slightly overcooked but very tender and overall his meal was good.
Food was good with decent portions but the service was very slow and did not keep up with drink orders.
Noisy and pricey but good food and good service. Will definitely go back again.
My husband and I eat here quite regularly ,and have, for the most part, had great experiences. Tonight was no exception. I had the wagyu meatloaf and my husband had a bunless burger topped with venison chili and cheese. Our food was delicious and the service was pretty good, considering it was a busy night. The only thing I would ask is if they offered a larger portion of green veggies with their entrees. This is definitely our favorite dine in restaurant in Decatur.
It was a great experience other than the loud atmosphere and couldn’t hear the dinner conversation.
We eaten here several times and the food and service were awesome. This time the food, presentation and service was just okay. Not sure what has changed. But, for the price I am not sure we'll be back anytime soon. Put it this way for dinner, drinks and dessert it will run you about $50 per person. There are other restaurants in that price range that deliver consistency.
We had never been here before and it was an hour drive for us.
My wife wanted to try wagyu beef steak that had been used on the cooking shows. Found this place and one in Huntsville that offered this meat.
I called 2 weeks before making a reservation to make sure that they had wagyu beef steaks. I was told that they did.
Then the day before we planed on visiting the Railyard, I called again to confirm that they had wagyu steaks. The hostess said she would have to go back to the kitchen to confirm if they had any.
About 4-5 minutes later she confirmed that they had it in ribeyes fillets and prime rib. I told her that my wife wanted to try this "special" beef for her Birthday. I made reservations for the next night.
We were seated quickly and when the waiter came we asked about the "wagyu" steaks.
He said that they only had it in meatloaf. Asked for the manager, and she said that they haven't it it in a long time.
That spoiled the evening for us.
The food we ordered was good and hot upon arriving at the table.
Manager offered free dessert.
Sorry for being so long.
The food was disgusting! I ordered the chicken and bacon sandwich. It had two tiny pieces of chicken and a few pieces of bacon on it. The bread was under toasted and also had no flavor. I returned the meal to the kitchen. The second meal was even worse! Shrimp and scallops w/cold corn, blackeyed peas, and peppers. The price for both of these dishes were too high.
Our friends recommended the restaurant.
No thank you!
The chef or chefs need to go back or to culinary school to learn about spices and proper cooking techniques.
The beer was eight dollars a glass...wow...too expensive for a glass of beer. We can go and get a great beer for a lot less!
Love this place, food is great, the atmosphere is great and service is good
Food was outstanding but a few of the dishes were lukewarm. Everything else was outstanding.
Very noisy environment, concrete floors and high ceilings. The table “beside” us was so close that if the customer tried to get out of their chair, the chair hit our table. The waitress was good; she had to be a little acrobatic to serve us due to the table location. The “caramelized” Brussels sprouts could have been more caramelized but other than that, the food was good.
Great food! Great Service. Always a wonderful experience!
Service was terrible. Took almost an hour to get a water. Half of our tables order was warm. Prime rib was tough. Burger was not warm. Fries and mushrooms on the burger was cold. No point in sending back because the waitress was never at the table and had to be flagged down for any service. Four entrees took over an hour to arrive.
Would recommend to anyone in the area
Very disappointed. Drove from Huntsville with out of town guests. 3 out of 4 burgers were under cooked. Sent 1 back twice and finally asked to have it removed from check. Talked to manager and she was unconcerned. Usually worth the drive, but doubt I'll bring friends/family again. Mistakes happen, but a total lack of concern on the managers part is unacceptable.
Atmosphere service and wait time were great. All 8 of us enjoyed tremendously
