On arrival the table was not ready, dirty tables and glasses everywhere. Went to order drinks, hardly anything on tap. Went to order food, (set menu) no beef left, starters running out. When the starter arrived it looked awful, looked like 1 spoonful of garlic mushrooms spread between 4 people, asked the waitress to take it back as it was not acceptable to be told they had run out of garlic mushrooms. Asked if we would like something else, said no as we wanted the mushrooms. Then pushed into wanting the main although they had not got what we wanted, we said no and left. Other customers complaining, they said they were short staffed granted but no accuse for poor food that people are paying for.

The service was shocking. Glasses were dirty. It took 30 minutes to get seated in an empty restaurant. Trying to get a drink was an absolute joke.

Had to wait 40 mins just for a drink then a further 10 mins for the menu. Portion was tiny literally a teaspoon of cabbage one small broccoli florets and very small amount of meat which we had paid for the 3 meats actually served less than my mother's one meat, however after complaining the extra £2 was reimbursed. Tablebooked for 1pm for mother's Day lunch eventually left at 4 pm making us late for another visit. Ruined mine and my mother's day would have left if it hadn't been mother's day so would have struggled to get in anywhere else. Wouldn't recommend unfortunately. No tonic water ran out of vodka no craft beers on due to cellar refurb. These were just the drinks we requested which they didn't have Mother ended up drinking water.

Really impressed with the quality of the food. Perfectly cooked and presented. Just the right size portion. The welcome and service was warm and friendly. At the time we went the restaurant was running out of peak season so the wait for food was a little longer than expected but that’s not a bad thing. I hate it when you have two or three courses in 30 minutes. Feels like a relay race rather than an enjoyable meal out. Anyway it gave us time to soak in the ambience. The restaurant is tasteful decorated with a contemporary style. My wife and I really enjoyed the whole evening and have been back again. I wish the team at The Railway Inn all the very best success in the future because this place is a little gem.
