Having eaten here two years ago for our engagement meal we returned for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Two years ago there was a lovely ambience, lots of locals drinking in the pub and the food was extra special. All the staff were super friendly and it had a really special feel. Unfortunately on returning this year it was like a different place. We had booked for 6pm and were the only people eating at that time with only one other family around. The menu sounded good but when our burger and veggie chilli arrived we were disappointed. The burger patty was very small and served in a bun, the type you might get at a burger van and the fries were clearly frozen ones not fresh cut and fried as we had had two years ago. The food was fine, if a little bland and we didn’t stay for dessert as there was only Eton Mess on the menu. We paid £31 including a cider and non acoolic drink which seemed fairly pricey for what we got. The lady behind the bar was very friendly but we could tell that there were lots of changes going on. Apparently a new menu was coming in the following day and the chef had just started that week. All in all we were disappointed and, for me at least, it put a slight dampener on what had otherwise been a lovely 1st wedding anniversary. I don’t think we will be returning to the Queen unless we could be guaranteed the high level of atmosphere and food we experienced before.

Sunday lunch with the family was a great success. We had a table with plenty of room about it to fit in the high chair comfortably. The service was good and the food excellent. Well above average pub grub. Delicious. My fishcakes were delicate and very tasty and came in quantity. We'll be visiting again.

There was confusion over whether we should order at the bar or at the table. The menu was not clear and we had to seek an explanation. The main fish choice was not available and it took an unacceptably long time for the food to arrive. The fish cakes were over done.

Really delicious food and great atmosphere. Staff were really attentive and friendly. Faultless and well worth the drive

Went for Thursday evening steak night. It was perfect. The steaks were incredibly tender and tasty, cooked brilliantly and the staff were happy to make swaps from chips to boiled potatoes last minute. Love this pub for its beautiful settings and great drink selection. Would also recommend the sharing boards for a light lunch. Superb and always worth the 1 hour round trip bike ride.

A really friendly bunch of people working here. Food took a little longer to arrive than would normally be expected but they explained without being prompted the reason for this which was entirely satisfactory. Great pub food, fairly priced, nice environment.

Chose to go to the Queen for Mothers Day as it was rated highly however we were a little disappointed. The staff were unable to cope with the number of diners. The restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere but was a little on the cold side for us. Food was overall good except for an undercooked salmon which we had returned. The service was not up to scratch. We were told that the salmon dish would be taken off the bill but when it came to pay it was still on the there. We had to request our sauces (horseradish and mint) which were supposed to come alongside our roasts and we had to ask for cutlery for both the mains and the dessert as the staff had forgotten.

The food was good pub pub food. There was a little mishap with our starter which is why I scored only three stars for the food. I cannot fault they way the issue was dealt with and it was all forgotten by the main course. Chef came to our table personally to inquire about our dining experience and told us of his plans for The Queen, how he constructs the menu, where he sources his food. The staff were lovely in every aspect and how they dealt with our requests. Despite the disappointment with my wife's starter, we would definitely recommend The Queen to our friends and family and eat here ourselves in the near future.
