Great after theater restaurant, with varied options. Food suggestions: mushroom toast, anchovies, octopus, steak was good but was not cooked to order (overdone). Only objection is that wine prices are a bit pricey for the quality of the wine. Will be back....

Such a great find near the theater district. Delicious food, wine, and dessert, knowledgeable, weight staff and super attentive. will definitely be going back.

Nice outdoor seating on a relatively quiet strip of 43rd Street, so this alone makes for a pleasant outing. Happy hour is a good value (e.g., we had $9 glasses of wonderful wine). As a restaurant, the Purple Tongue has gourmet ambitions, but the execution is underwhelming. A $4 “side of sourdough” is two small slices of bread on a plate. Anchovy crostini are pretty tasty, but consist of three teensey tiny bites, which I calculated cost me $6 a bite. Staff were very friendly and essentially competent, but two of them argued with me over their mistakes on the bill (corrected, but slowly, and without an apology). We really wanted this to be a return destination foodie spot. I don’t think it will be, except for wine at happy hour.

The menu was varied and the food was very good although the salad was over dressed. The wine pour could have been more generous and the noise level was quite loud.

Excellent small plates, wine selection, and entrees. The wine flights are a great idea. Our server Angie and the owner Pete could not be more congenial or helpful. A real asset to the neighborhood.

We had a light dinner before a show. The food was good but we were highly disappointed in the wine selection. We chose a Bordeaux but were told they are out. Kinda strange for a wine bar. So what would have been a $16 glass of Bordeaux turned into a $27 glass of Cali cab. We tasted a couple other choices and meh so splurged on the cab and it was a rather light pour but very good.
