The Puffing Billy Inn
We offer a dynamic, seasonal menu of locally sourced produce inside a cosy, recently revamped stylish interior. We change our menus regularly and have a daily changing specials board utilising local produce. On Sundays we offer a superb selection of roast dinners.
Our bar offers a wide range of drinks which include an interesting range of soft drinks, regularly changing real ales, an extensive wine list, over 100 spirits and a full coffee menu.
Dogs are welcome in the bar and timber area of the restaurant, the garden and outside. We do not allow dogs in our main restaurant.
We welcome customers who wish to come in for a drink or a coffee in either our bar area, secluded rear garden or at the front of the building where you can watch the world go by. We have bike parking for our more energetic punters and for the little ones there is also an excellent play area across the road.

We were delighted by our first visit. Open Table sorted out and confirmed our booking. A very friendly staff member welcomed us, and offered us a choice of seating. There was a choice of in the sun or undercover. The food was delicious and plentiful, though we did have to wait a while, as it was busy.
The Puffing Billy is well located on the cycle track close to a playground, with plenty of nearby roadside parking as well as their own cark.
Items on menu classed as GF not all items were, had to check twice. Waited long time for food to be served, although was busy so expected some delay, suggest more staff. Good Luke warm when served had to ask to be heated up. Great pub, pleasant staff & great ambience but on the whole food & choice was a let down.
Unless they had a separate veggie menu (I didn’t ask) the menu was pretty sparse for veggies which I was surprised about. However we did have a very good meal and were very happy for the service in the pub.
Great location, great food, brilliant service highly recommend.
Always an excellent experience with superb food, courteous service and comfortable atmosphere.
Had a good evening spent at The Puffing Billy on Saturday.
The Fish platter which we shared was especially good.
Great food and staff will return
Can’t wait for our next occasion
Great food and service although table position not great.
Children’s starters were missing, also one of our party ordered muscles which were not ready at the same time as the other mains. When they were brought out they weren’t cooked and many still closed. The chips and bread that accompanied them were left off and we had to ask. The other main meals were nice but the overall experience was spoiled.
We have eaten here many times and have found it of a good standard. This time was a little disappointing. The hummus was lacking in flavour and the main courses were very ordinary.
Always a lovely place to eat and drink. The staff are amazing.
We had a wonderful lunch outside in the garden. Absolutely delicious! The staff were very helpful. Could not fault anything. Thanks so much Lucy
Amazing food, wonderful service. Highly recommend!!
The food was excellent as always, but unlike usual, the service was very poor. We had to get up from the table to ask for service for our main course, desert, and to pay the bill. It was very disappointing to see the manager messaging people on her iPhone while we were waiting for someone to come to take our order.
Great visit, even the children’s food was excellent, not the usual ‘something frozen chucked in the oven’. Hats off to the chef, they really love what they do and it shows. Stunning location. Love the Puffing Billy.
This was the first time we had visited the Puffing Billy on recommendation from a friend. It was an early evening sitting and although busy there seemed to be plenty of staff. I have to say however that it was a very "average" experience, food was average, menu limited, and the service was poor. We were not offered pudding menus and eventually had to ask for coffee - by then our desire for dessert had waned somewhat!
Wonderful food, great atmosphere,
Great place for a pit stop on the Exe Cycle trail. Not cheap, but in line with most gastropubs - value for money as great pub lunch, kids and adults very happy with food. Recommend fish burger and sticky toffee pud!
Friendly, helpful and relaxed service. Book ahead!
Nice welcome from friendly staff. Service a bit slow and erratic, even though not hugely busy. Standard pub menu reasonably well done. Plate presentation a bit poor.
Best off going when they have the full menu, rather than reduced Bank Holiday menu. We enjoy it on a normal week night or weekend.
Good food service and atmosphere, recommended for lunch, cycling to Exmouth.
We could not have been happier with our experience. Our server could do no wrong, he was warm and intuitive - a perfect combo. Food was outstanding too.
Most welcoming, very friendly and accommodating staff. Food was outstanding. Cannot fault at all. Will be back.
Never been disappointed. Food, service and atmosphere amazing as always
Friendly pub with a warm welcome. Good food....recommended the Sunday Roast! Heavenly desserts & good selection of wine, beer & Gin.
Great service from start to finish even on a busy bank holiday weekend.
The Roast Pork and Fish Burger was excellent ! Loved the ambience and quick service. Will visit again for sure.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Staff were extremely efficient and helpful.
nice clean well managed establishment , good food and fair portions ,worth a visit and nice walks close by .
Excellent surroundings and attentive service. Food good although menu slightly limited. Overall very good.
Service and food was outstanding. A wonderful venue for pretty much any occasion.
Nice furniture. Table a little too small for 4 people. Greeting/service very good. Food nicely cooked and presented without a long wait. I would prefer to be asked if I want ice in my G & T, as the glass was full of ice cubes and this waters down the gin. Overall we enjoyed the lunching experience and would come again.
Always a fantastic dining experience with amazing staff!!
Good service and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had some scraps put by for us on the table but alas forgot them when we left. So, we will have to be back again in order that our 4 legged friend at home gets her tit bits. Thank you for a very enjoyable lunch.
Fantastic food. Really attentive service. It was a highly pleasurable afternoon.
This is one of our favourite restaurants and we are happy to drive all the way from Torquay just to eat there. However, don’t know what went wrong on Wednesday as the food was absolutely not up to their usual standard. They did offer a free desert as recompense which was really appreciated
Nice to be back inside especially as we were made so welcome and well looked after.
Lovely meal 🥘 🍽 & staff
A tad chilly in restaurant
& service between corse a little quick
Otherwise v v gd
The only issue we had was the temperature - it was very cold and the heating was not on we had to wrap my elderly mother in a blanket.
We always enjoy our visits to Puffing Billy when in the area. A bit disappointed with the mussels this time but otherwise very happy 😃
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We did find the service was slightly slow but understandable given the early days of opening. The food was really good and it was so nice to feel so normal!
