Absolutely the worst service I ever had. We had reservation for 9 pm had to stand in line for 15 mins and wait another 10 mins to be seated, We arrived 10 mins early, When we got our table, the server gave us ONE cup of water for me and my date, We recieved the 2nd glass 20 mins later after we asked the busboy for one as as the waitress never came back with the other one. We had to wait ONE HOUR until the food came Only my food came out, my date's food took another 10-15 mins to get to our table. In addition the server drops the food with no utensils for us to eat the food with. They also had not served us the wine we ordered when we first sat down.I had had enough, I had to get out of my seat to find the waitress, host or management. This place is lucking the basic qualification to put the title restaurant related to its name. I feel so bad that I spend my money there.
Nice environment but waitress could not answer any questions re the menu, drinks or Gluten Free foods without having to leave our table for 10 min and coming back - leaving us without food and drinks for about 45 min . The only reason we had a good time was because of the people we were with. Probably won't go back.
My wife and I had Valentine's dinner here and it was great. We were seated immediately and was attended to promptly. The food was amazing. We started of with duck flatbread, entrees were scallops with forbidden rice and lamb chops with grilled brussel sprouts. All were cooked perfectly. Will definitely go back.
The Province is my favorite place for convenience, excellent Asian food, great drinks and vibrant atmosphere. The bar is well equipped. Prices are reasonable. Can’t point o a particular plate on the menu... they’re all great.
Service was terrible. No excuses because the place was mostly empty at noon.
To be honest, the service was great. The ambience is really nice. The food was the worst Asian food I’ve ever had. Everything was so dry. There were 3 people in our party and each person complained of the dry, tasteless food. The appetizer of the mini tacos were great.
Beautiful artistic decor and such a big place! Food was good although the serving plates were these heavy flat slabs that made food inaccessible. Oddly we were the only patrons dining on a Saturday night- even though there were hundreds of people gambling in the adjacent rooms.
I made a reservation to The Provence for my parent's anniversary dinner on a Friday night. My mom likes the outside patio ambivalence and the food is also good. When we got to the restaurant, there was no hostess in sight, I had to ask a random bar tender to call someone up to seat us. Once we got seated with our menus, our waitress did not show up until 10 min later to take our drink orders (which then she came back another ~8 mins later) stating that they did not have some of the alcohol options. It was only 8pm and the some of the alcohol was finished? We were confused. We also ordered appetizers which was brought out 20 mins later and soon after was our main dishes which was a bit cold. You can tell it was sitting out. What confused me was that there was barely anyone at the restaurant being served and the service was extremely slow! I think this place does not focus on customer service in their dining area, it's more attentive on the folks at the card tables and perhaps serving their drinks. I don't know. Not sure if I would suggest going back to celebrate a large party. It's only good to be at the bar. It's too bad since it is a nice place and the food is good but overpriced - a small bowl of firecracker chicken can only feed two - its about $16+.
Great place to eat with friends!
This was the 3rd time my wife and I eat there. The food and service was excellent. What i appreciate more was the willingness to move my reservation back 45 minutes because I was running late. I highly recommend this restaurant. The food, service and ambiance will not disappoint you.
I feel that the Province is one of the best restaurants in San Jose! Definitely the best Asian fusion. The flavors and creativity of the food are nowhere else to be found in San Jose. Tasty spices and good ingredients. The ambiance and decor are very modern and intricate. Love the dishes that the food comes in. We just like everything about it.
Love the outdoor seating. Great place to go on a Sunday. Food and drinks are delicious.
Food, excellent. Management & service, subpar. New management needs to fix the kinks. Nice people but no sense of urgency & the service did not meet me our expectations
We were a party of 12. Appetizers were amazing! Try the calamari! Mains were ok. One guest from our party requested her dish without mushrooms, the server asked if it was due to allergies or preference and was told it was preference. Dish came out last with mushrooms. When we informed the server, there was no apology, we were just informed that making the dish again would take 20 more minutes. Server also forgot an apetizer order. Disappointed with service.
The food was less than mediocre. The place was almost empty but it took almost an hour to get our food. A tough, fatty ribeye. I ordered another drink when it was served and the waiter brought it 45 minutes later. At that point, there were only 2 other tables occupied. I told him I would have liked some salt to try and impart some flavor but I was done eating and please take the drink back. Worst. Service. Ever.
Food ambiance and the place is excellent just the waiting time before we get to have our food n our orders taken. Took them 20mins to get our orders taken we have to literally call atleast one of them that can do the job and waited for our food for an hour only to find out not all orders r ready to be served and ended up cancelling some of my orders coz I got tired waiting.
It was okay. I would probably not return. The food was okay but for you get a little overpriced.
Music/vibe could be better. Food was a hit or a miss (Vegetarian)... It was understaffed (servers and kitchen) so food orders and special requests took forever. Ambiance, decor is spectacular!
Great place to bring staff and clients for lunch and dinner. Not too crowded and food comes out relatively fast. The food is very flavorful and the ambience is gorgeous. One of the best in San Jose.
Great service, delicious food. Was a nice setting for a small group/couple people, seems like it could be great for a large group too.
Will definitely return.
Heard from other friends about this place how the ambience.
We were not disappointed at all.
The venue is very nice - trendy and modern. The waitress was overwhelmed - the only waitress in the entire place. Our food had good flavor but came out cold, which instantly killed the mood - especially considering we were the first group to arrive for an early lunch and still had to wait 45 minutes for our plates to come out.
I’ve dined at the Province many times but I decided to write a review now based on my latest experience.
First thing I noticed was they have changed the HH ending time to 7pm instead of 8pm. But they also added a second HH time that’s from 10 to 1 am. The change has good and bad side simply because I prefer to be ended at 8pm that way most people can still make it after their work. Ending at 7pm makes hard for people who work late.
2nd thing I noticed was the appetizer portion was smaller compare to before. For example, my favorite fried calamari, not only the bowl got smaller but they put the source bowl inside of the dish making the smaller portion even smaller!! I mean WTH?! Btw, I went there on a Saturday evening, they got only 5 tables of people dine their. I don’t understand what make them do here. It’s not like your are jam packed you don’t care about making the regular customers happy. You only have 5 tables, and you are trying to cut corners like that?! I’m sorry but you just lost a royal customer like me!
Thirdly, the oyster HH price is ridiculous! Wapping $2.5 for tiny little oysters! Everywhere else is about $1 to $1.5 at the HH time. I mean it’s your choice to charge whatever you want, but after I saw how small the oysters are, that gives me another reason not to come back!
Nice ambience. I asked for a table in the dining area instead of the lunge so it's more suitable for catching up with friend. However the staffs were way too attentive than necessary, there were at least 4, or 5 different people asking "how is everything" at every 5 - 10 mins interval?! So our conversations were constantly cut off..
If you want a cool place and not mind the loud music, the lunge area is pretty nice with high ceiling and pretty lighting.
Food is ok, it's Asian fusion and some pretty interesting dishes. Cocktails is pretty as well.
Food was great but service was really bad. The place wasn’t even busy. Checked on us once and when we tried getting the check no one was to be found and waited a while to be helped.
We went here for a work lunch. It’s great to have a nice sit down restaurant near our office.
Very high salt on all dishes that were on the overpriced side. Coffee came in paper cups and dessert was not fresh
Service was extremely slow, the food was not tasty at all and way too expensive for subpar service and food. We transitioned to the lounge and the service there was just as bad. The bartenders were slow and unorganized. They seriously need to hire more service people. I will not be recommending this restaurant or lounge for any occasion to anyone! It was a great disappointment. But side note, the servers themselves were pleasant but they need better training in handling the dinner service.
The food was horrible. The noodles were the worst that I’ve tasted at an Asian restaurant. We didn’t attempt to touch the Oysters. We returned them as is.
Drinks were good, and the decor and ambiance was good.
Please look elsewhere. This place is a mistake. Expect an upset stomache.
My boyfriend and I came here for valentine’s day dinner. The service was very good. The atmosphere and music were good too! We had a prefixed menu which was a three course meal and 65 dollars per person. The first course was either a salad or soup. I chose the gyoza gumbo soup it was fabulous. The second course we both chose the lobster noodle. It was kinda on the salty side. The dessert which was the third course was delicious but very tiny portion. Overall we like this place. Will probably come here for regular dinning menu sometimes.
Food was great and easy to share . Had some business colleagues and they all enjoyed The Province!!
Our food was visually appealing and delicious.
Went here on a Saturday night in the early evening and it was SUPER loud. I'd recommend this place if you're about to go on a night out and drink, but not really a nice dining experience with family. Food was a hit or miss.
Food was good, service was below poor. For the price of the meal, we were expecting excellent food and excellent service. The food didn't come out together, there was lack of urgency when we pointed out that we would like to eat together, but we were waiting on the last few meals to be served (took about 40 minutes from when the 1st plate was served to our table to the last). The manager John P, was not particularly helpful either once we explained the situation to him, in fact, once we let him know, he never once returned to our table to apologize. I was extremely disappointed and will not be returning.
The food was the worst I have ever eaten .. no vegetarian options and very pricey. The food was served very late. One thing I liked was the drink from the bar. They should work on thier menu and chefs
I personally think this restaurant should deserve an upgrade in the Chef department. Dishes by name could have a lot of potential, but by execution were lacking. Noticeable are the mixed drink ideas, but also here the bartender didn't get two mixes consistent, and the wait time was huge.
For the owner having spend millions of dollar on the interior (hand painted walls) missing the boat of food and drink quality is misunderstanding the culinary opportunity here.
The food and ambiance are great. However,it’s a little bit slow when it comes for wait time in between orders. Still recommendable.
I went for lunch with few friends. It was pretty quite but the food was good
Upon arrival, they informed us that they didn’t have a table for us so they sat us at a “bottle service” table. No room to place the food, therefore we had to put all our plates on our laps. They didn’t provide us with utensils nor napkins; our waitress checked on us twice but only with the person at the far end. Trying to grab her attention for drinks and dinning essentials was extremely difficult and inconvenient. By far, the worst dinning experience I’ve ever had.
The Province is rated 3.8 stars by 105 OpenTable diners.
