Dinner features an à la carte menu, all designed to be served family style. The bar in front is open to walk-ins all night and features our full menu. An expansive and eclectic wine list as well as a carefully curated cocktail program round out the festive offerings.

The Infatuation

The Progress, on Fillmore, is a great time and a good scene, with excellent food.

Ratings 8.0-8.5:The best way to think about restaurants in the low to mid 8′s is that these are the places you would absolutely go back to, anytime. These restaurants are ones that you want to bring a friend to, just so they can also experience the duck carnitas, or burger, or whatever dish the place is known for.

Everything from the ambience, service and food was superb. The highlight entree for me was the squid ink noodles. I was craving for more after we devoured it. Will definitely be coming back.

spectacular food; unbelievably creative. The cocktails and wine were some of the best I've had in a long while. And the service was at worst welcoming and friendly, and at best, leaves you hugging your server. What more can one say about a restaurant.

We ended up with a free evening at the last minute, so got an early reservation. Turned out our timing was off, so we were running late, but the staff was really kind and made sure we had a great experience. The drinks were great—I like the Remedy—and the food was delicious, especially the bbq duck platter. Perhaps the best rice I’ve ever had. And the coal-roasted mushrooms were decadent. Wonderful!

Other than waiting 40 mins to be seated even with a reservation, it was great, duck platter was delicious! Wish they had a less expensive wine by the bottle option though.

Great dinner with nice ambiance here. They designed this space perfectly. Some of the dishes were great and some were sub par. Gave us a nice complimentary toast for our anniversary which was very nice. Amazing service here. Make sure to get peanut butter milk.

The food was good but not spectacular. As a vegetarian, it was a bummer that none of the large plate options was veg-friendly. Our server was friendly and funny, but let us down at the end when he failed to comp our dessert after a very long wait, and a broken promise that it would be out in '54 seconds.'

Great, interesting, and flavorful meal!

This was our first visit to Progress. All but one of our dishes were interesting (in terms of presentation, composition, ingredients) had abundant flavor, and well worth it. A special shout out to the pig's head charcouterie, Japanese salad, abalone, and the bowl of mushrooms. The lamb tartare was fine but uninteresting. Deserts were also great and we had the floating island and the poppyseed crepes.

The downside is that the wine list very pricey.

Service was pretty good and friendly.

I would definitely go back when we had saved up the $300+ for two people

Amazing food. Service was as pushy as a salesman up selling more more more - on top of charging $12 for club soda “sparking water”. Made it clear we were celebrating a birthday and was sorely disappointed having to ask for a candle post-dessert order drop. Probably better for large groups/work events when expense isn’t a concern.

Love love love! My only concern was that the food was a little too salty for my liking, but if it was just a tad less salty everything would have been perfect. If you are concerned with this, maybe you could ask to make sure that your food won't be over-salted. I'm sure they can accommodate your request, as our waiter was very friendly and helpful. Great ambiance, great food, great service. Highly recommend!

The food was creative and wonderful. Super service. I really disliked the intense noise. Were it not for the volume and having to shout to have a conversation this could be one of the best restaurants in the city. But, as it is, the noise level detracts considerably from the experience and the value.

Loved the concept and the flavors but there were some dishes that were a touch on the salty side which lead me to take off a star.

This place deserves Michelin one star. Every dish we ordered was amazing. Some of the dishes have unique but very tasty flavors. The chef probably have done many experiments and came up with bold ideas to create those flavors. My favorite dishes are veal tartare and “little wing farms quail egg roti wagon wheel fondue & farm greens”. Caviar potato cloud is very good as well. The smoked black cod was pretty good but apparently my friend love it so much.
I would definitely come back again. The waitress is friendly and she recommended a perfect wine to go with our dishes. The restaurant interior design is beautiful with wooden walls. Very natural feeling. It’s good for special occasions and date night dinners :)

We had a wonderful time at The Progress; top marks for the food, service and ambiance. Arriving early, staying 3 hours, slowly making our way through a divine seasonally inspired menu, with expert guidance from the Maitre'd and our server. Martini was dry and subtly flavored with smoked casteltrevano olive juice, Manhattan was complex, excellent. Wine selection is broad... even by the glass had some delightful surprises. The service is unpretentious, informed and friendly.

The Progress is a special culinary experience!

Booking a reservation might be tricky (they're usually busy) but it's worth planning in advance. Their menu is really creative and every dish we had was beautiful presented - and tasted great.
The table was ready on time - both the maitre and our waitress were helpful and made navigating the menu easy. They will gently tell you how much to order and how to go about it - if you feel that's pushy I'd say don't mind it - they're probably trying to avoid you getting too little food / drinks.
At the time we were there, they had 4 'main courses to share' (we picked both the lamb and the pork), and a variety of smaller side dishes (we picked strawberry salad, quail egg roti, lettuce leaves to dip). That was enough for 4 people, but YMMV - if you're hungry you may end up racking up a large bill.
We skipped the cocktails and went directly for wine - they have good variety and the price is on point with the rest of the menu.
Overall, I'd recommend it for a special occasion, a birthday, someone visiting from outside town (our case), etc.
