   Enjoyed a lovely meal here with my wife. We went as non-residents and I thought the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, as was the service. Food was excellent. Not an extensive menu, but very good quality food, well presented. We both agreed we would go back, but this time stay over.

   The only reason, I did not give The Priory five stars is the disconcerting lack of a reception. You arrive at this lovely house in beautiful surroundings, wander in and . . . are not sure what to do with yourself! Fortunately, there were some residents in the lounge who told us a girl would be along soon, which she was and a perfectly delightful, attentive (but not intrusive) girl she was. It is a set menu but with a good range of choice. The food was top notch, with an enjoyable amuse bouche thrown in to start. The food was beautifully presented and tasted even better, with quick but not hurried service. There was more than enough on each plate but for the first time in a long time, we both managed three courses and coffee and left feeling sated but not bloated. We took coffee back in the comfort of the lounge. Again the lack of an obvious reception made paying a bit of a 'chore' I had to go and knock on the kitchen door to find anyone to pay! On paying, we discovered the most discreet bell possible, which we had been supposed to use to summon service. I understand the desire to create a homely atmosphere but more obvious signage for bell would easily remedy the rather uncomfortable feeling, wandering around an hotel apparently devoid of staff! Other than that a most enjoyable evening. Have already recommended to friends and we will be going back.
