The Preserve Restaurant + Bar Ratings and Reviews
3 of us ordered an entree that was delivered without a key ingredient. When we asked, it was given to us cold. The 4th guest also had a cold entree. The restaurant made it right, though. They comped our meals and gave us a free bottle of wine. It wasn't the server's fault. He was great. So we tipped on the full meal. The manager was also good, so I can't complain. It was a situation of a bad experience that was completely remedied by the staff. Best we could have hoped for.
Hands down the best dining experience I've had in Austin. The view reminds me of the Flagstaff House in Boulder. Sit outside, even if cold out, they have heat lamps The food is farm to table, simple and fresh. . Dinner for 2 including 2 appetizers, 4 wines by the glass each was $195 ish. This is associated with a resort, so it can be difficult to get a table on weekends or during busy periods. They must make sure all guests staying at the resort get seated. They may have more capacity then they make available on Open Table. One of the managers suggested calling if nothing available here. I went in on a weeknight in mid December and mid January, and we had the place to ourselves.
Amazing view and atmosphere! Austin - away from Austin!!! The food was superb, the service was outstanding! The vibe was friendly, romantic, fun, uplifting, peaceful and in touch with nature. Really just an all around impressive and unique place. A great blend of girlfriends bonding over a ladies trip, couples, baby-mooners, business retreats. All commingling seamlessly for a authentic "Life at it's finest" kind of vibe.
The service was excellent and the food was great! We celebrated my husband's birthday and our server madehe evening special. We sat indoor, but the place had great outdoor seating. We were still able to see the beautiful view from our table inside since they sat us next to a large window.
We enjoyed a peaceful wintery weekend breakfast at the Preserve Kitchen, Travaasa. You get a nice view over Lakeway. Server was great. Sat by the roaring fireplace for a bit, then wrapped up and hiked the trail paths within the grounds. Worth a visit. We'll go back in Spring.
My wife and I ate at this restaurant for 3 nights in a now and even snuck in a breakfast one morning. The wine list is exceptional and the Sommelier (Edward) is very down to earth and completely changed our perceptions of Spanish Reds. They have great gluten free options and the food is extremely clean (organic and fresh). This is a must visit if you live in Austin or if you are passing through. Highly recommend.
My favorite thing about this restaurant was its gorgeous natural setting. We watched the sun set over the hills while dining on the outdoor patio under the trees. The whole resort is very secluded and quiet, lovely for a romantic evening. Most of the food on the menu is healthy, and they even include the nutrition facts on the menu. I ordered the trout, which was delicious, and enjoyed my wine selection from their unique wine list. Our server was very pleasant, professional, and attentive. I can't wait to come back for another romantic date night!
The scenic driveway helped me leave my cares behind. Starting with the amazing kale Caesar salad which was one of the best salads in my lifetime and then moving on to the Pacific Ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts...I was still thinking about the salad the next day. Everything was so fresh and delightful. I will be back as quickly as I can!
The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor tables available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are of course different menus for the three daily meals, but they are all very good. A significant number of items will change on the menus each day since the restaurant strives to support and source from local farmers (when possible). The staff is efficient, knowledgable, and friendly. We liked the wine and cocktail recommendations which our waiters were able to give us. The chef and kitchen staff do a great job of preparing a wide array of items each evening for dinner. Most diners will find several things they like on each dinner menu. Diners can expect to see beef, chicken, fish, pork, and vegetarian entrees available, all high quality, beautifully prepared and served, and delicious.
We stayed at the resort for the 4th of July weekend, but you don't have to be a resort guest to eat at the restaurant. There was something for everyone as we have vegetarians and vegans in our group. This is a farm to table restaurant, so everything is very fresh. Our meals were amazing and the wine pairings was great. They also have a patio, so we watched the fireworks after dinner. Highly recommend this restaurant.
This restaurant (and the property it is on) is one of those hidden gems that you have to experience to understand. We sat on the back patio in a covered area (as it was raining outside for part of our meal) and the beauty of the setting was just amazing.
In addition, the food is all farm-fresh, organic, and tasty. As someone who normally just looks for "tasty" and usually disdains "organic" and "farm-fresh" labels as something one should be skeptical of as a "quality mark" on it own, I was genuinely impressed with how the food really did seem to taste dramatically better than expected on every course.
We had the pulled duck sandwich (very good), the soup of the day (a nutty chicken curry - amazing), the Wagyu burger (wow), and the fresh pork tamales (again, wow), as well as the delicious dessert bars (chocolate and lemon - both outstanding). The only slight miss was the fruit smoothie, but this is because they avoided sweeteners/sugar, so it was much less sweet than we were used to (not bad, but not the way that our saccharine tastebuds have been trained to expect for a smoothie). I don't really fault them for this - the description is accurate on the menu.
A small warning: They really do not take children (below 16) here at all (on the hotel property or the restaurant). Period. My wife had accidentally booked this restaurant for Father's Day brunch (2 kids with us) and when we got to the property they were initially unsure of letting us in. I must commend their creative service-oriented approach to us (putting us in an isolated area of the patio to allow us to still enjoy the experience while not disturbing the couples looking for a quiet kid-free retreat) but note that it was probably only due to Father's Day benevolence. Do not bring kids :-) .
All-in-all, as their response to the kids demonstrates, this is a restaurant that really cares about people and meeting their needs. I am sure we will be back (sans kids) again and again in the future.
Amazingly peacful environment and patio overlooking hills surrounding Lake Travis. Quiet, adult only atmosphere. Food was healthy and delicious. Really wished there was a cookbook available for purchase! Wait staff wonderful at dinner and slighly slower at lunch... but OK as it allows more time to enjoy the natural beauty and views. Overall--- definitely a highlight of my trip to Travaasa!
What a surprise to discover this gem high in the hills of NW Austin - actually Cedar Park. It's a resort/conference center with a restaurant open to the public when space is available (check on Open Table). The setting is beautiful, the views from seating both inside and outside are like from a mountain lodge, the service is personal and attentive, and the food is as special as the setting. The menu is small and changes daily, and the food specializes in locally produced ingredients in unique preparations.
The setting is rustic and the path to the restaurant involves a little walking. Golf cart service is available, but mobility-impaired guests may get a little more workout than they want.
After our first visit we were back the following week.
We spent Valentine's Day dinner here and it was a great success. The food was fresh and flavorful. The staff is extremely welcoming and professional. We did the 4 course with wine pairing. The wines were excellent. The bar also has some rare finds in the whiskey and tequila realms. Watching the sunset from the patio is something you should do. We we lucky and the weather was perfect for our Febuary 14th and we dined outdoors. Everyone treats you like royalty here.
Travaasa is a hidden gem in the hills. It's a quiet setting in a beautiful resort. The food and service were great. I especially liked that they source as much as possible locally and even grow some of the food themselves. The night I went, everything on the menu also happened to be gluten free in case that is a concern for you. It didn't require asking about every item - they were just marked "(gf)". I'm local and went just for dinner but I'd like to go back and spend a weekend at the resort and enjoying more of the restaurant at different times of day. I was told that the menu changes daily and at each mealtime so there's always surprise in the variety of selections.
Pretty food, great atmosphere, nice views and warm feelings...but still not a, "...and this food is spectacular..." review. The food menu changes everyday, and maybe that makes it seem more accommodating to the flavors of the garden and larder, but it wasn't quite "there" for any of us in terms of flavor hits. It was beautiful to go there, and to eat there, but it seemed to needed to bring just a bit more to the table for true delight in eating pleasure.
I made reservations for Thanksgiving from Seattle through Open Table. The experience was far better than my expectations! The staff was welcoming, helpful and friendly, from the greeter to the guy who drove us back to our car when we were too stuffed to walk up the hill! The service was outstanding, the view was spectacular, and the food is still being talked about. My 84-year-old father said it was the best meal he'd ever had! To make him happy (and impress him) was our goal, and Travaasa did both admirably. We got the special menu and the wine pairings, which were exquisite. We will return whenever we are in Texas, and our family members there will return for special occasions as often as possible.
