Wonderful restaurant and a gem on Balboa Park. Indoor and Outdoor dining! Great staff and varied menu
We ate the Tuesday night "Date Night" = salad, main dish and a bottle of wine. The salad was tiny, the main dish (pasta with chicken) was so bad we only ate a little, and the wine was mediocre. Never again.
Good location....and that’s about the only good thing I can say. Food mediocre and limited choices.
The hostess gave me a buzzer and told me I would be seated at my reservation time.. When it was 30 minutes past my reservation time I asked her why we weren't seated yet and she just shrugged her shoulders and said that my buzzer was most likely not working.. we were waiting for ever and she did see us. but she kept seating people before us.. I made a reservation for a reason but I felt she didn't care about what was going on.
We had a special night planned with dinner before an Old Globe show. Our server understood the time factor and helped us complete dinner on time. Never made us feel rushed but got everything to us quickly and correctly. We have eaten here many times before and the service and food is always great. The Tres Leches dessert was good and unlike any version I have had before.
It's a great place but the prices are quite high and the portion sizes small.
Waiter friendly, nice environment, food was good
We had a wonderful date here and even though we had a tough time finding parking and were a little late they were very courteous and sat us immediately. The beer and cocktail were amazing along with the delicious entrees we both had. We love it here so much and recommend to anyone.
The wait staff were engaging and friendly. Just right!
Good service. Tried to use Globe Theater stub for $5 discount. Management wouldn't accept it. Our total check came to almost $90.00! Might want to tell Globe management theater stubs are not accepted.
The food and service are always excellent! The food and service are always excellent!
We received gift cards for this restaurant and were not disappointed! It is located in the heart Balboa Park just off Plaza de Panama. Our day began at the San Diego Zoo, so we were hot and tired when we arrived for our reservation. We were seated on the patio and were grateful for the many umbrellas shading the tables. The food was excellent! I had the NY strip steak and my husband had the shrimp and filet combo. I asked to substitute sauteed green beans for the listed vegetable (broccolini); I was accommodated without any pushback. The entree was just the right size-not huge portions, but very satisfying. The dessert menu looked tasty, but we decided to pass as we had sweets waiting for us back at at the resort. The wait staff was attentive but not hovering.
Tuesday night date night at the Prado
Wait staff did not seem interested, minimum servand the tacos
We Went here for dinner after the Lorax. Air conditioned inside was just too cold for comfort but an outside table was pleasant. A little slow bringing the check but otherwise service was excellent. The food was good and well presented in keeping with the lovely surroundings.
There is a 3% surcharge at the end- almost hidden on the receipt. I would prefer they raise the charge for the food rather than tacking that on where it is easy to miss.
Still it was an enjoyable experience worthy of a special occasion.
There are so many tables and the turn around is so quick. The Prado has lost its "special" appeal and seems more mass market these days.
Always a delectable experience.
Noel our server was accommodating and full of energy.
Always love going to the Prado when I have a show to see in the park. My God child took ill and server and staff was very concerned and helpful.
Good place to sit, rest and eat during a visit in Balboa Park.
A negative point: although we had a reservation (2 persons) we had to wait about 10 min. to be seated. When you reserve a table they should place you immediately when you arrive.
Always love The Prado! Perfect for friends, Birthdays, romance or just hanging at the bar. Food is great. Atmosphere is great.
I always love going to the Prado! The menu is always inventive and the service impeccable. Its the perfect place for dinner before a play at the Old Globe. It was my friends birthday and not only did the hostess wish her a happy Birthday but our server also brought her a free dessert with a candle! The atmosphere is perfect, like the inside of a Spanish villa!
Was in the park for a walk and had made a reservation for lunch. Seated quickly, great service, loved my Michalda, and the food was great
Out of town guests are always impressed with the architectural pleasing setting - Spanish Baroque. The menu is just right and service was friendly and right on. I’ve dined there for many years.
The food was amazing but the service was really lacking. We were originally sat in direct sun and it was unbearable but we were able to get a new table. Waiting on drinks and refills in July was not fun as we were sitting outside. Maybe they were having an off day.
Be prepared for a 3% additional fee on all bills due to “rising costs” 🙄👎🏼
The food was great and our server was amazing. We were celebrating our anniversary and he went above and beyond to ensure we had an incredible meal. We will definitely be coming back
We've been to The Prado many times. Once again it did not disappoint. Service, ambiance and food were all excellent. This is one of our San Diego favorites.
My 20 year old grandson is a vegetarian and the vegetarian entrees is limited to one , risotto, just risotto with a garnish. I had a pesto pasta with chicken dish that was twice the size of the portion of risotto and the price was the same, $23.95. While we both enjoyed our meals, it would be nice to see more vegetarian selections and in the case of the risotto, a larger portion would have been appreciated.
I called ahead to check on valet parking. Was told that valet parking was only available on weekends. They neglected to tell me that if there is a wedding, etc., the parking will probably not be available. This was the case and would like to have known ahead of time.
Great food and fun drinks - the pork chop and sea bass were recommended by our server Tanner who outlined every detail about all our choices. The steaks were also very good. Noisy with kids nearby and sloppy casual dress for many patrons. This is a lovely restaurant with unique decor, situated in fabulous Balboa Park - warrants a bit of dress up! We hadn't eaten there in several years but we'll be back, mostly due to the unparalleled attention from our server Tanner!
We had come by 20 minutes earlier than the reservation since we were near the restaurant when walking around Balboa Park. We were told that we would have to wait at least 20 minutes to get a table. They handed us the pager and the pager did not vibrate until 25 minutes later. We might as well not even have made a reservation. The food itself was satisfying overall. We especially like the humus served at the beginning. The appetizer had a decent flavor, but they dumped an excess of the sauce on the calamari fries such that the fries were dripping everywhere. The main meals were okay, but not worth the price we paid for them. The waiter rarely came by and did not offer to refill our drinks even once. The waiter went to do round after round of all the other tables before eventually going back to ours when we asked for the check. And then did so again, coming by 15 minutes later to give us a chance to pay the bill. They also sat an extremely loud family next to us with multiple young children that did not know what an inside voice was, and of course the mother decided to exercise her right to breast feed in public.
Sat down and left after 30 min whe no waiters showed up to take our order.
The food was good our servers were outstanding very attentive and friendly had good suggestions the only issue I had was with the table behind us that had a bunch of kids that were really out of control I know the restaurant can’t control that but there were a lot of other empty seats maybe we could have sat a little further away from them
service was very good and all items were beautifully prepared, even the specialty margaritas!
The Prado is a go-to place for us when going to the Old Globe Theatre. Had a very nice experience, with the Duck breast very, very good. My partner enjoyed her pork chop and our third person had Lobster potstickers over slaw which she enjoyed. They made every effort to get us out on time (which they did). Have never had a poor meal here.
The Prado is a lovely restaurant. Great ambiance, service, and good. My only complaint is that there really aren't any vegetarian options unless you order a salad. They do have fish dishes but if you don't eat fish or meat the options are very slim.
As always, the service and food never disappoint. Appreciated the waiter asking us right off if we were going to a play that evening (we were) and checking on the time so we could make it.
The place was beautiful it sadly our food was bland and dry.
We love the Pork Chop on Date night. It’s a wonderful value and a great time to visit the park.
Everything about the evening was outstanding. The food was delicious and the presentation was over-the-top spectacular. The wait staff was prompt, friendly and efficient. Highly recommend!
