The Prado at Balboa Park Ratings and Reviews
We LOVE coming to the Prado and the service yesterday was excellent. My wife ordered the Trio, but she had trouble eating the steak ( not your fault- she is trying to get used to red meat). Anyway a young lady ( I assume a manager of the day- though it wasn't Patty- whom we know) took great care of her and got her a skewer of chicken to replace it. Sorry the terrace wasn't open yesterday as we always like to dine outside near the garden we designed for the re-construction. We look forward to our next visit to the Prado.
This was our first time eating at The Prado. We came for our anniversary, and the restaurant made it very special. We were seated in a fairly quiet corner, and our server was very attentive and friendly. We were already planning to order dessert for our special occasion, but we were surprised with a complimentary dessert. Everything we ordered was delicious. We would absolutely return and recommend this restaurant to others.
This was our first visit to Balboa Park and I was so impressed with the architecture of all the buildings surrounding. The restaurant is so charming and comforting. Our group of four loved each dish we ordered. I would highly recommend the duck which was perfectly prepared. And the short ribs were delicious and tender. And don’t miss out on starting the evening with a cucumber martini. Wine selection was good, too. We will be back for sure!
Food interesting but inconsistent between diners. Highly rated but I was disappointed from hostess to seating process despite reservations on a non busy day and time. They have a captive audience in the park. I'll try it again as one experience isn't enough.
This restaurant has been one of wife,s and mine favorite places to eat. Food has always been excellent. Ambiance is great and really great at diner. Many original takes on traditional dishes. Excellent wine list. Sound level an be high at lunch-my only complaint.
Made a reservation for lunch, showed up on time, was asked “inside or out?”, chose out, said it would be about 15 minutes. About 30 minutes later with no buzz on their buzzer, went back and said we had waited 30 min and was it our turn yet? She said they were having trouble with the buzzers and offered us a table “inside or out?” Chose out again and was seated. Food was mediocre at best, mahi-mahi tacos were dry.
Not pleased with whole experience.

We had an Anniversary dinner on a Dec 23rd, 6 pm, it was very loud, I asked to be seated by the Christmas Tree but did not happen. Maybe betteretter to dine quietly on a weekday. Not a place to go for a romantic dinner. All the food we ordered were exquisite.
Dinner at The Prado is always wonderful but we were there for lunch before a matinee of The Grinch yesterday. Matinees get lots of kids, many of the diners were going to the matinee, so lots of kids, quite noisy. Our server was not attentive, kitchen was slow... I will continue going to the Prado for dinner, but not for lunch, lunchtime serving staff seemed second rate compared to the usual wonderful dinner time staff.
The Kobe beef sushi roll is enough of a reason to visit. Seriously. We had a reservation and were seated late, but the service after that was excellent. Cocktails and food were fabulous. We sat outside on the patio under umbrellas, and the ambience was perfect for brunch before our play at The Old Globe. Will be back for more sushi.
I love the place cause it’s cozy. The food is great and very affordable. . You can talk with your friends and hear them properly cause it’s quite.. The service is good and very well mannered. High five to this Restaurant. Love Prado as I love Prada! Hahaha.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️💋
We celebrated our anniversary here. Great location to come to after attending the Old Globe. We grabbed a drink in the bar and then had dinner. The Kobe beef sushi appetizer was delicious! We ordered the shrimp and filet and braised short rib which were also delicious. Our waiter was attentive and provided great service. Plus we were given a free dessert to celebrate our anniversary. The ambiance was festive and it was nice to walk around the Prado after with all the Christmas lights. We will be back and bring others too.
The service was really good. Our waiter was prompt and attentive, which is always nice. We got the braised short ribs because so many people have raved about them. They were really good. I was a little disappointed that the sides we're a little different than what we saw on another menu, but it was still good. Best thing ever, no, but definitely good.
We had an absolutely wonderful experience after all day at the zoo. Very comfortable 6-7 minute walk from the Zoo. A very romantic setting in Balboa Park. There was a wedding party, a number of small groups, couples, Father & Daughter all enjoying a great meal and the Prado's quiet ambiance. We sat outside on the patio with a nice overlook. Great soups and my spiny lobster bucatini was delicious and full of flavors. We finished with a delectable Tres Leches.
