The ambient of El Prado is nice, and Balboa Park is just stunning. The staff working there are very friendly and attentive. The food is not so great, the chicken tasted like canned chicken, and some of the ingredients did not taste fresh. Overall I enjoyed the drinks from the bar they were great and the dessert was just delicious.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Perfect place for an intimate dinner.
not a great experience - we were seated to the back of the restaurant - meaning as far from the terrace as you can get. without the ambiance - it defaulted to the experience of any other high end restaurant, but sadly - it didn't meet those expectations - the service was strictly average - i needed another drink, but waiter didn't come around until meal was finished and the food was average - the menu hasn't changed in 15 years - it's the same food. over the last decade the S.D. restaurant scene has exploded - so the Prado is a relic of the past
It was nice
I was advised to try this restaurant. I was not disappointed. Highly recommend it!!!!
The location, ambiance and the food was great. I would recommend it.
One thing I did not enjoy was the surcharge for the increase in the minimum wage. They shall just raise the price and stop blaming the increase in wages on the increase in prices. By the way they also increase the prices.
Either that or if they want me to see the additional cost for the increase in wages I would also would like to see the percentage for their profits , and by the way it shall be verified by an independent organization..
Our experience was everything we hoped for at our favorite restaurant. Our server Scott was so amazing, we took a picture with him! He described each dish as if he had prepared it himself and he genuinely enjoyed making our evening memorable. The rock shrimp-stuffed chili relleno and our sea bass entree were outstanding! What a fantastic 30th Anniversary celebration!
We ate on their patio and the ambiance there is always so wonderful. And it's quieter than inside. Service was excellent, quick to take our order and when we sat and talked after the meal we didn't get pushed to vacate the table. None of our plates were removed until we were all done. The occasion was 3 friends and my visitor from Ireland after having toured the Latin America exhibit at SDMA.
We've visited Prado many times over the years, but this will be the last time. While the food is good, as is the ambiance, we can't get around the miserable, frustrating parking situation. We were 20 minutes late for our reservation as we had no idea that they now only offered valet parking on Saturday & Sunday, and we had to find a lot, park and walk a quarter mile to the restaurant. We don't mind walking, but not good in high heels.
So - beware - if convenient or adequate parking is important to you, I would NOT recommend Prado.
Someone needs to give this kitchen a salt shaker, at the least. Everything on both of our plates was beyond bland.
Date Night promotion is a great value, and the dining room service is attentive and unobtrusive.
We are frequent visitors to San Diego and always make it a point to dine at the Prado. You simply can't go wrong. The dinner menu offers something for everyone and the food is to "die" for. The setting in the park is amazing and the service is efficient and very personable. Don't miss it.
I had the Skuna Bay Salmon which was excellent, along with a Caesar salad. I also had their Manhattan with Maker's Mark. It was one of the best I have ever had. Also had their 20 year port which was excellent with dessert. My companion had the sea bass and she said it was fantastic. The meals can be a little pricey, but they do have some specials which can help keep the cost down. However, if you want a treat for a special occasion, or a great meal before going to the Old Globe, definitely try The Prado.
Great location at Balboa Park. The outside sitting area, food, and service were terrific! Overall was a great find for us!
I enjoy the overall dining experience at the Prado. The service is always excellent and I enjoy the
ambiance. Usually the salmon is great but this time I was disappointed. It was a small portion and had a fishy taste.
We had a family pre-theatre dinner with children and friends, our server was super friendly, professional and aware of our need to get to the play on time. Excellent food, everyone was happy with their order and the portions were sufficient for the teens! Great experience!
Chef Jonathan Hale did a fantastic job tending to our table. We were seated immediately at the time of our reservation and were treated to a warm and caring atmosphere by all staff. The ambiance was romantic and perfect for our date night. Right in the heart of Balboa park, everything was superb. Definitely would recommend and intend to come back.
Limiter menu at lunch time. Wine list excellent.
The menu continues to be inventive and the food very tasty, beautifully presented after obviously careful preparation. We had a great evening with attentive, but not intrusive, service. Each of the four of us were very positive about their meals. The only negatives are the high valet parking fees (and distant parking otherwise), and the need to cross the patio to get to the restrooms.
Our dining experience at the Prado was absolutely superb in every way! The food was delicious, creative, healthy, and very fresh. The service was great; as was the view, the background music, and the stupendous location! I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a truly memorable and unique meal.
Me and my boyfriend had our anniversary dinner there tonight. I thought I would change it up a little and surprise him and take him out rather than other way around! I knew he liked the Prado because we had been to lunch there once before, so thought why not try dinner! It was a different feel for dinner, very nice and more intimate. Our server Dick was very knowledgeable and great! I took his recommendation and got the short rib, which laid on a bed of carrot mashed potatoes which was an interesting flavor. My boyfriend got the sirloin with their regular mash potatoes and Brussels and he really enjoyed it. We also had ordered the dumplings which is a great appetizer option! Of course we went for dessert and got the tres leches which had a wonderful presentation and flavor! Overall meal and service was great! Only thing that bummed us out was I was hoping because I had marked it was our anniversary on opentable that they would do something special for us! Unfortunately, it was never acknowledged. However, they still were able to impress us with friendly service, and we still had a nice anniversary dinner.
The hosts managed the heavy traffic very well and are friendly and professional. Our waitress and staff were attentive, friendly and professional. Our waitress managed our time in a relax manner yet ensured we were on time for the play at the Old Globe. Our food was good to very good. A good evening dinner.
Excellent experience. The food was extremely good and the service superb.
We go to the Prado before the theater and it is perfect. The food and cocktails/wines are top notch but it is the staff that makes this restaurant a favorite!
It was a very busy mid-week lunch hour. We were glad we made reservations. The service was still slow -- no fault of the wait staff! A large table of ladies were obviously a challenge for our waiter -- so many different requests, separate checks. We admired his patience! For a pleasant experience at this VERY busy venue, ALWAYS MAKE RESERVATIONS! The food was to our standard (high); the tres leches dessert was worth the wait.
Perfect place after a morning of walking around Balboa Park. Loved the outdoor venue. Lots of food options to pick from.
Made reservation thru open table, we were quickly seated upon arriving, a few minutes prior to reserved time. Very good service and quality.
Beautiful garden setting. Delicious food and wine. Friendly attentive service. What else could a diner ask for?
Dependably fine dining with excellent service.
Walked right in at our reservation time and it was crowded but we were seated immediately in a nice area of the restaurant. Service was wonderful, menu was limited but the ambiance was worth it. Went before a show, was a wonderful time.
this is my "go to" place when I want a lovely meal with excellent service and I'm in town.
We really like the Prado for pre-theater dining when attending an Old Globe performance. Great drinks and food and always friendly service. We really like the Prado.
Your chef is apparently in love with Brussels Sprouts broccoli kale: everything cruciferous. Many of us like spinach green beans peas Lima beans: and as such, not chopped up. There is currently much of the former and little of the latter on your menu.
I eat at the Prado often after walking through the park always enjoying the consistency and quality of the food and the location. My friend and I attended an event at MOPA and had dinner and a nice conversation over drinks and great food. I highly recommend this place no matter the occasion.
Nothing wrong, but only okay. We were seated in the atrium next to the main dining room which was not great. Be sure and try to get into the main dining room. Food was only ok. Service was good.
Whenever we have people visit from out of town, this is ALWAYS a go-to with them. The menu is unique, delicious and service impeccable. Can't say enough about The Prado.
I wanted to find a special place with great food for a date night with my husband. I was very disappointed with The Prado. The waitress forgot to take our entree order so we sat for a while after eating our appetizer wondering what happened to her. Our meals were not great. The location and ambiance remain my favorite part of The Prado.
Went for a late lunch after several hours at the zoo. Beautiful view, music, and ambiance. Great sangria and burgers. Pricey for everyday dining, but lovely for a special occasion.
Taylor was awesome
Lovely table outside facing the wishing well was perfect. Our servant was happy and attentive. The food arrived on time and tasted great
