Our experience was good despite being told that our reservation had been cancelled although it had been made weeks before and confirmed two days before. Although we were accommodated there was no real apology.

This is a gorgeous looking place and close to Malmesbury with efficient and helpful staff, but that's it really. The food is average to not that great and certainly not worth the prices they're charging. They're a bit style over substance and I'm not convinced there's an actual, professional, chef working in the kitchen at all. We had Sunday lunch and you couldn't tell a difference between the meat for pork and beef, visually, portion sizes were small and the roast potatoes felt like they had been lying around for a bit. The cauliflower cheese was great but stingy portion size for 4 people to share. Won't return and certainly it looks like there are other places in Malmesbury worth exploring over The Potting Shed.

The pub was very busy but food was mediocre and not hot, very disappointing. Service was poor, it seemed like they didn't have enough staff to cope with all the tables even though they were probably all booked.

A lovely birthday lunch before a visit to Highgrove. Really good food - only complaint is that the mashed potato was over salted! Well worth the drive from the New Forest.

I booked a table for dinner based on good reviews, we were not disappointed. The staff were charming and the menu had some wonderful choices and was cleverly split of offer "pub food" as well as fine dining. The oysters were the best I have had for a while and the local asparagus with Hollandaise shows they source their produce well. Couldn't fault anything all delicious.

We had been recommended to this pub by some people at the hotel we were staying at nearby. We arrived on time and someone took our coats and we were shown to a table. We ordered our food and after not too long our starter (whitebait) arrived. This was very nice indeed and we were then hoping that the mains would be just as good. The mains then arrived and our meals were both luke warm which is not acceptable. We sent them back to the kitchen and subsequently they came back somewhat warmer. However, the next problem was that neither dish had been seasoned and my wife's fish stew was quite unacceptable. There were 2 very small pieces of hake with 6 or 7 mussels in a tomato sauce which was underwhelming to say the least. My wife opened the muscles to find next to no mussel but just a bit of sinew. My main was a pigeon dish which again had no seasoning and was very bland indeed. It lacked a really nice sauce to hold it all together. We called over a member of staff and complained about the mains and received an apology and was told that sometimes they have an off night! We ordered desert as we were still hungry. The rhubarb and apple crumble was very nice indeed. Not long after finishing our desert we asked for the bill and were very surprised that they had charged us for everything including the awful mains dishes. We paid although normally I would have queried why no allowance had been made for the terrible standard of food. On our way out I noticed that our coats had been put on a bar stool and not hung away out of harms way. All in all a not great experience so beware if you go there.

What a great find?! We booked online (easy)... and just turned up. Easy to park... great welcome at the bar as we went in... plenty of tables (we sat outside, as it was a beautiful day)... amazing staff who could not be more helpful... and an interesting menu... with food that was served promptly and super tasty. A good range of drinks too. Highlight was the staff - pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. We popped in for a drink on our second day & they remembered us. Spot on - we will be back!
