The Porch Restaurant & Bar - Sacramento Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant specializes in southern cuisine for northerners. Real southerners wouldn’t appreciate the excessive amount of Gouda cheese in the shrimp and grits or the unseasoned chicken strips that accompanied my waffle. Plus, the $16 Shrimp and Grits came only four shrimp.
My group enjoyed all our choices - skillet mac n cheese was a favorite. We also had shrimp & grits, the shrimp po boy and country fried steak. The country fried steak came with 2 sides and a biscuit, super filling. The housemade ketchup and jam (for the biscuit) were both outstanding. They were offering a 175ml bottle of sparking moscato, which is only $1 more than most wine selections that were by the glass - it was delicious!
We entered the restaurant to check in and without asking each other instantly knew that we all wanted to sit on the porch. The dining room was WARM, and very loud. I'm not sure if that's the norm but if you are looking for a quiet spot you might request the porch (they had heaters so the cold wasn't a problem).
The price of apps, dinner and drinks makes it sort of a special occasion place rather than a regular spot, but we will definitely be back!
Food was fantastic and delicious. Service was slower than I expected, but it was a concert night. I had allotted 1 hour and 30 minutes for dinner and it was closer to 2. We were seated immediately as we arrived but waitress had to confirm our drink orders and everything shifted from that. No matter, I’d still return and will just go earlier next time. Happy birthday on menu was a nice touch!
I have been here several times and always order the shrimp and Gouda grits. It may take some time for them to get your orders out esp for brunch. Also thought my pumpkin Creme brûlée and my son's apple pie could have used some whipped cream. Overall enjoy this place but some details were missing.
This was my first visit at the Porch. My first impression was the friendliness of staff. Our server was extremely helpful concerning the menu and willing to accommodate and modify entree for our preference. The food was good and beautifully presented. I will come back. Also left a referral on Google. We failed to take pictures because we were over eager to taste our food. Lol
We often dine at The Porch after performances at the theater. As always the food was superior in taste and preparation. Service was excellent, an enjoyable dining experience. Well worth the time and the cost is very moderate for what is received. Great bar selection as well.
Food was fair; heavy and substantial portions. Nothing to rave about.
Service was spotty. Took forever to get my water, as requested.
Nice, comfortable atmosphere.
Lots of options in midtown; this wouldn't be a first pick for dinner, but might consider again for dinner....or brunch.
We enjoyed all the cocktails and dishes we sampled. I recommend the grilled goat Brie app. The friendly service seemed a bit rushed especially when mains arrived and we were half way through actively eating our appetizer. The servers weren’t tuned in to pacing of a weekend “event” meal (meaning we had no other plans than a nice dinner).
It was a busy Fri night so I made a reservation. We got there and it still took about 5 min to seat us. We got our appetizer quickly but after that our dinner didn't come out for over an hour and the waitress didn't ever offer an apology or information on the long wait. Overall, I wouldn't come back for dinner. Unfortunately, they don't seem prepared for busy nights. I really love the ambiance but that was about it. I really had high hopes for this place and was so disappointed.
It was vegan chef's challenge and my dear friend Megan being a Vegan was super excited to participate for the first time.
The vegan fried green tomatoes were absolutely delicious. Me being a non a vegan totally enjoyed my lamb shank and hope they will continue to offer it because I want to bring my husband back to try it.
However vegan Megan did not like her dinner entree with butternut squash puree and some kind of potato cake. She was disappointed and our server didn't come back for a while after we got our dinner, we almost almost missed our comedy show. The show started late so thank God.
I was a little bummed we didn't get to try any desserts.
Our server was very nice and courteous.
The restaurant was busy, but not full, and the waitress was friendly, drinks and food were great, HOWEVER, the service was extremely slow. We waited over an hour for our food. For a restaurant to be so slow on a Saturday evening was really unacceptable, therefore I would not recommend this restaurant for that reason.
