An absolutely beautiful restaurant with an incredible view alongside the river. Unfortunately the food didn't come close to the ambiance.
The crab doughnuts came highly recommended by the waiter but 2 there were 2 issues:
1. The entrees came out before the apps. I sent the entrees back and the manager brought the entrees to the table with the app. Not okay.
2. The doughnuts are basically 2 small biscuits with warm crab dip. Mediocre at best.
The menu selections are pretty good. That is, if you get the correct menu. My party and I had 2 different menus (his had items no longer offered by the restaurant).
My whole branzino was actually delicious and I'd probably order that again when I come back. My other party got the grilled fish (swordfish) and complained it was dry (this fish is easy to overcook and it appears this met that criteria).
Service was good and it's likely that I'll return - just don't order the doughnuts.
The views are amazing and the atmosphere is nice, but my charred oysters were small and more breading than oyster. The scallops were flavorful and juicy but for $33.00 I'd expect more of an accompaniment than a few pieces of zucchini, and "winter root vegetables." The best part of the meal were the cocktails, the tequila old fashioned was delicious. I don't have anything nice to say about the dessert menu. LOL. Nothing.
It's a nice spot for cocktails and conversation.
Really good food, but service was slow - could have been because it was a Sunday evening dinner. Beautiful scenery, beautiful decor inside. Fire pits are very cool. Recommend.
Service was slow (you can tell they were short-staffed) so it took FOREVER to get out appetizers & it was cold, & then another long wait for our salad, but minutes later, our entry arrived (so that was cold too by the time we finished our appetizer). Nevertheless, Our server was lovely (& apologetic for the delays) & we had a great time. Point has a great “vibe” that makes we want to return again & again!
Great ambiance and view perfect for a date! The food was very tasty!
This was my third visit to this restaurant. In my first visit I had a confusing and unpleasant experience with the hostess stand, later my waiter was good and the manager apologized for the earlier interaction. The second time it was an overall good experience - but I was with a large party and someone had already informed staff to treat us well. This third time - I was left with a bad taste in my mouth by the engagement I had with the manager. It was a Friday night and the music was not fitting, I heard more 60’s classics that night than watching a PBS documentary. Others made the same observation. I asked the manager if there could be a change in music and that conversation (the first and subsequent) felt like I was paying to be gaslighted. I have a graduate degree in communication and doing cultural communication work for two decades - her coded language and attitude was a slap in the face. 1 visit and the hostess was unpleasant but the waiter and food was good. 2 visit and someone has to tell staff in advance how to treat customers. 3rd visit and the manager plays word games instead of honoring a request for modern music and a genre fitting a Friday evening with a diverse and intergenerational crowd. Three strikes at this place! I will think again before coming back and telling friends to do the same.
Visit with son for his birthday
The best experience ever!
Food and service were great!! The live band made it even better.
We had the flounder for two. It was delicious. Also the clam chowder (not what my grandmother made) was more like a seafood medley. It too was yummy. The apple pie with ice cream for dessert was more than enough to top off our feast. We had enough apple pie to bring home. We will be back.
Very good food and service..very Romantic..wife and I celebrated our first anniversary there..loved it
Overall experience was good.
Drinks are a little expensive but ok.
Our reservation was for 3pm on Sunday, so it was a limited menu. It was a lunch menu. I figured they would have served dinner
It was our first time there. Every thing was great and our waiter was amazing. Will Definitely be back.
Fun, new restaurant in the Navy Yard neighborhood. Our waiter was outstanding. Food is good. The location can be a challenge if going by cab/Uber/Lyft if there is a soccer game down the street.
We were seated right away and the service was so friendly and amazing
Was seated promptly but service wasn’t the best. The young lady that served us was polite and friendly. She seemed overwhelmed. Was difficult to place orders due to our server being away from the dining area for extended periods of time. Restaurant is severely understaffed.
Average food. Slow service. Staff was friendly but very slow.
The seating was horrible (where we were sat at least) I’m well aware that we are coming out of a pandemic so I get the understaffing part of it. Even still with that being said the quality of the food shouldn’t be so poor. The young lady that finally brought our food out after waiting 30 minutes stood behind us having a conversation with our by then cold food on the tray. Her chicken was still pink on the inside and we were told that it was “keep the moisture in” and my Grouper was super salty like he just came out the water onto plate. I guess because I didn’t fist bump and slap high fives with our server (it’s still covid and you’re serving people food) we didn’t gather the attention that he gave his other tables. The best part of the evening was the valet and her oysters. I was really trying to break out of our normal Friday dinner spots and try something new, I’m sorry that I did.
It’s a Birthday Celebration. The location was excellent for an early fall evening on the water front. The server was very attentive and engaging. I knew if this place is associated with Ivy City Smokehouse, it was already elevated to a DC Favorite for me. I’ll be be back soon ! Check it out’
We always enjoy ourselves at the Point. It’s so convenient especially since I dock my boat next door it’s a short commute.
Had some great expectation when we arrived. The place looked great and has a very high ceilings. There was a large party in the front room going on when we arrived.
We were seated quickly and then it goes down hill from there. Our server Anthony promised to give us his best service when he greeted us at the table. It took a long time for him to come and take our drink order and then after we ordered he never came by to clear the table. Took an unsuspecting long time to get the bill and have him process the payment.
I am unclear if this was due to COVID staffing problems or something more systemic. Anthony may have given us the best he could and perhaps he was just spread over too many tables last night (10/14). This is something that management needs to address if The Point is going to sustain itself as an entity.
I did enjoy my blackened salmon but another in my group did not like it or the spicy sauce.
It was Thursday evening and there were three large parties as well as dinners. Our waitress, Phobe was quite busy . She was knowleable about selections and very cordial
The The atmosphere was great and the tempo of the music changed as the evening progressed. We were a party of six. Everyone stated that they enjoyed their meals ,drinks and would definitely return
Great spot in the water on SW. We sat outside in the lounge area with bar service. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
It is a beautifully designed waterfront location, relaxing atmosphere, and delicious tasting seafood.
The patio bar is such a chill spot on a weekday and great service/food.
This place has a very high low type of vibe. When they are good, the food is good and so is the service. When it's off, the food and the service is off. The young lady we had was not "bad" per se but, we ordered sushi to find out that it wasn't available on Mondays but she brought the menu and the order and then came back to say it wasn't available. The bigger concern was she said something that we knew wasn't true...not. As far as last night, the fish and chips was crazy salty, not appetizing and the "chalkboard special" of the short ribs was a bit dry. The Brussel sprouts and the fried Calamari were great. Now the bigger issue for me and it's not the first time...the surcharge they make you pay for using a credit card is NOT cool. I don't think we will be going back anytime soon.
My friend can’t eat seafood so she ordered the $48 ribeye and it was terrible.
First visit- hostess/host staff less than professional which gave us a bad vibe. But our waitress, Verta, made up for all the things we did not like. We sat outside (Sunday eve) and music was too loud for our liking- also feel that instrumental would have Ben far more pleasant. We had the salmon, cauliflower and brussel sprouts- each were very very good. With one of us vegan they accommodated it with both the cauliflower and brussel sprouts dishes.
We thought it was a nice plus that the restaurant validates parking and we had the hostess do that for us- or so we thought. When we exited the parking garage we had to pay $8.
The food (and Verta) were the best thing about our visit. The chef(s) should consider adding more items for vegans & vegetarians- and labeling the menu in this way would also be helpful for those considering a visit.
Our meal was delicious, the service outstanding, & the ambiance lovely —thank you!
Fantastic venue. The food was excellent, the service was great and the managers were very accommodating for my birthday celebration. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
The hostess was very accommodating when decided that we want to sit outside, after she sat us inside. Our server Anna was great!
It was AMAZING!
Got there before our reservations to watch football and get a drink. We sat outside. The bartenders were fantastic!
They got the manager to change the TV to our game. They had my favorite beer on tap.. could not have been better.
Then we were ready to be seated.
Perfect table on the water and they had the fire pit on. Just so cozy!!
Calamari to start, yummy.. then I had the shrimp sandwich and fries, yummy and my partner had the duck special. She said it was amazing. Great wine too.
We woke up this morning saying how wonderful dinner was!!
You must go.. SO HAPPY WE DID!!🙌🙌
A beautiful setting and some interesting dishes (the appetizers are the best)!
Special treat. First visit. Surprised at the great water views and excellent food.
Seems a bit overpriced and added fees that don’t make sense. We were charged an extra $7 because we used a credit card. $50 for crab cakes that had filler and not very good. Sides were not good at all. I had a few potatoes and a few pieces of asparagus with the crab cakes. Maybe a spoonful. Also no flexibility in splitting checks. They just seemed to have too many rules that ruined your experience.
Terrible service, took forever to get a server once seated. Service was slow and restaurant was not crowded. Brought out wrong order. Shame since great location/view. Disappointed.
Parents were in town for/after my wedding.
The food is always great. The servers are awesome however every time I have visited there is confusion or issues with the hostesses upon entry. I had a reservation and was asked my name 3 times and told it would be 10 mins to seat. After waiting 20 minutes I approached to inquire a 4th time and was asked my name again. The hostesses require more training.... otherwise this place is awesome!
