   Firstly, the service was genuinely impeccable. Flawless The food was full of flavor and wonderful textures brought on by vegetable pairings and nuts. . The beet salad was outstanding. My husband s curry chicken was meaty and so flavorful I was jealous I didn’t order it. My Pork shoulder was very good and tender but I felt part was a bit over cooked. The portions were plentiful. Wine list wonderful. I had a Daou Cabernet Sauvignon just wonderful. Ambience full of people yet quiet enough for us to hear each other easily. The place was full of romance. Just wonderful.

   Dinner was very nice. Food was good (chicken curry), not outstanding. Dessert was very disappointing -- awful in fact. Avoid the Creme brulee. It came to the table room temperature and without the characteristic caramel crust on top. Perhaps they should call this dessert "bland pudding" instead? The dining room became crowded and unpleasantly noisy after 6pm. We asked the waitress about the bitters on the menu -- after dinner drinks. She had no idea what to tell us and went to the bartender for information. We watched the bartender as he read the labels on the two bitters we asked about. Kind of funny, but really, for a restaurant that wants to be chic and trendy, the bartender should have a better knowledge of what he/she is pouring.

    Service was good and there was a nice wine list. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was very good. Unfortunately both the roasted pork collar and country fried game hen were overcooked and very dry. Though the game hen had sauces that helped with the dryness, the meat was still dry.

    Niklaus was the finest waiter ever. He didn’t let my Veuve champagne run dry. The food was delicious five star quality. Great atmosphere and decorating. Best service from everyone. I will be back

    this is our go to place for a fabulous dinner and night out - unfortunately we had a bad food experience - our staple dishes were terrible - very disappointed. The service however was impeccable! Our wait staff was amazing:) We're officially 'on a break':))

    It’s rare that I go to a restaurant where every single dish is phenomenal. The menu items were so unique and creatively prepared. The latkes were special. The tapenade that came with the burrata blew my partner’s mind. The gnocchi melted in my mouth. The drinks were out of this world. Our only regret was that we weren’t able to taste everything on the menu. Hopefully we’ll be able to come back again before the menu changes.

    This was our second time visiting The Pocket. Fine food at its finest. We started with martinis because, why not? You can't go wrong with a Grey Goose martini. Next, we had the Apple Salad with candied pecans. I could have had a plate of just the pecans, but then that would defeat the healthy purpose of the salad, alas. The apples were nice and sweet. A good start. We followed the healthy salad with the House Smoked Pastrami Croquettes - Gruyere Cheese, Dijonnaise, House Pickle, and Quick Kraut. Do yourself a favor. If you order nothing else, get these bad boys. The chef has a two-week (maybe longer) process of marinating/brining the pastrami. Deep-fried nuggets of splendor. They're amazing. Even the pickles were great! For the entrees, we both went for seafood. She had the scallops and couscous, and I had the seared jumbo prawns with peanut sauce and sticky rice. Both were excellent, and the peanut sauce was not over-powering, as I've experienced at some places. Prawns were thick and meaty. The one scallop she deigned to share with me was moist and delicious. Already full, we initially balked at dessert, but we have weak dispositions and decided to split the flourless chocolate cake. Our dispositions thanked us. A glass of Sambuca topped off a truly wonderful meal and experience. If you have plans to visit Carmel-by-the-Sea, be sure to slip into The Pocket. You won't be disappointed.

    Great service and food was better than the last time we went. I hear there is a new chef. The 2 tops are all in a single small room and it may be efficient use of space but pulls the ambiance way down. Doors wide open made it chilly as well. At least outside has heaters! May be worth a try, but don’t sit in the 2 top room😫

    A local resident pointed me in the direction of The Pocket saying she had heard it was great. After our wonderful birthday on Valentine's Day meal I was able to return the flavor to her by saying she needs to get there soon!

    I’ve never had food come out so hot… 10/10 just for that!! So many other places ruin great food by being room temp or barely warm. I also love everything else about this place! Great selection of food with lots of menu choices. I would happily order anything on their menu, it was hard to pick just one thing! Great atmosphere, more modern but still so cozy. I also love the music! And it’s not too loud for anyone concerned about that. I’ve been here twice and walked away so happy each time!

    I've really liked this place and eaten there often. I was disappointed some of my favorite dishes, like the gnocchi, came off the menu with the new chef, although I think the menu is still good and the quality there. What does disappoint me is the current service. Not the usual problem, not enough service, but too much. We were chatting with the folks at the next table and when someone was mid sentance a waiter would show up between the tables, directly between the people speaking, and say DO YOU WANT ANOTHER GLASS OF WINE or DID YOU WANT DESSERT TONIGHT or something similar. I spent plenty of time waiting on tables and know it is a tough job, but to do it well you need to try to give your customers an overall great experience, meaning some senstivity to what is happening at the table. Still, it is a good option in Carmel, much better than the touristy places.

    The Pocket is currently our favorite restaurant in Carmel. The menu is varied and the food is always great. While I try and order new dishes, I frequently return to the short rib which is great. We also shared a crab thermidor, an excellent choice. The cocktail menu is always interesting and the wine list is excellent.

    We are locals and use to go to the restaurant when it was Christopher’s. The new owners have done a great job of making this a great restaurant. Interior and exterior seating are outstanding. The food was perfect from salad to dessert. It was a little loud but most restaurants are. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
