The Plough is a traditional village pub located in the beautiful setting of Great Chesterford which is situated on the glorious North Essex/South Cambridgeshire border. There has been a pub on this site for over 150 years serving the local communities and acting as an eating and drinking point for people visiting the local attractions including Newmarket, Saffron Walden and Duxford Air Museum. The current owners Samantha and Simon insist on the highest levels of hospitality where the food is freshly prepared, the drinks selection extensive and everyone is offered a warm and friendly welcome.

Please note that we will only be serving a BBQ on Bank Holiday Mondays during 2021. Friday night is Mexican Night from 6pm - 9pm. We offer vegan and vegetarian dishes and GF options. No other menu is available on a Friday night. On a Sunday we offer a selection of roasts including a Vegan and other options for those wanting something different. No other menu will be available. We offer a takeaway service on selected items Tuesday - Saturday night. The menu will be different for a Friday night when only the Mexican menu is available and Sunday lunchtime roasts are available for take away.
Private party facilities
The Plough is available for hire whether it's a small meeting or birthday celebration for up to 8 in the private dining room. Having an on-site, professional events and catering team available at every stage ensures all requirements are fulfilled and all events are an experience to remember. Private hire from 9am till 4pm, Monday-Friday, allow corporate DDR rates to be offered and include screens, breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Throughout December Christmas menus will be available for corporate clients with private hire of the whole pub available to include extra music and entertainment on week days.

Although the management was changing on 5th sept, they still had high standards,good excellent though limited menu.

Staff were a bit slow but offered us the pensioners menu which was kind and appreciated. Food delicious but portions too big. More choice on pensioners menu?

Lovely meal with super service. The crayfish tail salad was delicious and crammed with crayfish. There was live music too in the bar as it was a Thursday We've booked to go again!

This was my first time visiting The Plough. The food was great and well presented. Added to that it was delicious. The summer risotto was one of the nicest I have tasted - great flavour and good bite. Drinks great and very pleasant staff. Perhaps they need to be updated on the menu items. That said , the experience was lovely and will certainly return. Thanks.

Limited Sunday Menu, and even then, there were some limitations! Beef was pink, cauliflower cheese with broccoli instead of cauliflower !

Poor service, and food was over cooked. The young lady was great she was polite but apart from that. I won't be returning.
