Gaylords now rebranded as The Plantation House by Gaylords offers one of Kauai's most beautiful settings for lunch, dinner and happy hour. Located in the historic Kilohana Plantation home, diners are seated around an open-air courtyard with views of the plantation grounds and Mt. Waialeale in the distance. Our kitchen uses only the freshest, seasonal ingredients supporting our local farmers and fishermen. Our 67-acre sustainable farm provides much of the produce and herbs used in our dishes and cocktails. Probably one of the best meals we had on Kauai. Great service. We had the truffle fries, flash fried Brie and stuffed mushrooms as appetizers. All delicious ( although husband didn’t care for all the spinach in the mushroom stuffing). I had the Fresh Catch Oscar (fish of the day with crab meat and bernaise sauce). Cooked perfectly with perfectly done asparagus. Three people had filets all done to their temp choice perfectly. I was a little nervous having people order beef on the island when so much of the menu is seafood based, but it was all delicious. Price points on the meals were about $40 - pretty reasonable for the island I thought. We all split a piece of plantation pie (vanilla ice cream, macadamia brittle, pineapple pieces/caramel drizzle). I thought it was tasty and not overly sweet.

Dining at Gaylords was an unforgettable evening! From the time we were greeted by the hostess we couldn't have felt more special. We were seated in the gazebo which was very romantic. Our waiter, Jeff, was fabulous...he was so attentive and you could tell he really enjoys his job! The food was delicious...the fish was so fresh. Save room for dessert, the creme brulee was yummy! Wonderful dining atmosphere and experience...will be on the top of our list the next time we are in Kauai

After dining here on vacation I now have a standard! I will forever compare meals out to The Plantation House, everything from the appetizer (friend brie) to the dessert (mocha cheesecake) was phenomenal. It's going to cost me twice as much at home to get anywhere near the quality I had here, seriously dreaming of it weeks later.

We had our Anniversary dinner here and the atmosphere and our server Jeff were amazing. The deep fried brie was fabulous but our entrees were just ok. I had the fresh catch special which was tasty but there were no vegetables. My husband had the seared ahi and there were tough pieces and the entire plate was served room temperature (not great). They took the price of his meal off our tab which was very generous of them. Complimentary bread pudding dessert which again was just ok. Sadly disappointed as everything looked good on the menu.

Our waiter was amazing wish I remember her name. The outdoor patio is beautiful. We celebrated my wife’s birthday and we’re not disappointed. Our meal was absolutely fabulous. You must try the butter fish starter.

Seating on the new patio was beautiful. The chairs were a bit too low for my mom compared to the table height but Kai, our server brought her cushions and mom was very comfortable. Service provided by Kai was excellent, and we enjoyed her bubbly personality. Mai Tai was good, not wonderful. Food was beautifully presented, but my husband and mom said their food was bland. It needed a boost. They had the filet and lamb chops. My macadamia nut crusted fresh fish of the day was excellent. Overall, a nice dinner out.

We were seated at 515 and ordered salads and a spinach dip appetizer at 529. We got our dip one hour later and it came with 5 small pieces of naan bread. The four of us ate those pieces and there was still 3/4 of the dip left. We asked for more bread and it arrived 30 minutes later. Our salads came out 90 minutes after we ordered them. We got two different excuses. One from our waitress was that our order was placed after another large group. The person who delivered the salads said the salads were ordered to be brought with the entrees. One of the entrees was seared ahi. It arrived very well done. To our waitress’s credit she noted that and took it back. It returned perfectly done. All entrees were fantastic but arrived nearly two hours after ordering them. We ordered one dessert to go and was told it would take 7 minutes. It took 25. So great food but eating out is an overall experience and that is why 1 star. Very dissatisfied and disappointed. When our bill came we were charged 5$ for the “ extra” bread. Ouch. We won’t be returning.

Best dinner option these days on Kauai. Very reasonable drink prices, drinks are great, lots of great food options, beautiful setting, good portion amounts, and to top it off great service and food and drinks came out to us real quick. Definitely a great value compare to other nice restaurants. We chose this place over, merrimans, eating house, tidepools, beach house….the prices of these other restaurants mentioned are getting ridiculous….

The Rib Sandwich French Dip is really great. Tender and very flavorful. Nice French Fries accompany it. I ordered the Caesar salad, not so great. Served on a flat plate much too small. Maybe trying to make it look larger that it was. I speared the top leave of Romaine and all the cheese rolled off onto the table. The menu said there were anchovies in the salad but I never saw one. Please stop using the tops of the Romaine, they are tough and not much flavor. Just the hearts of Romaine please. Mai Tai is always great.

Mom absolutely loved the French Onion soup and fish and chips. The most unique and flaky batter we have even had on fish and chips. I enjoyed the lamb burger. Next time I will get fish as it looked so good.

Note: to be fair- this is a review of the Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet only. Booked due to great reviews and rating but was quite disappointed. When I booked a few weeks in advance- no mention on open table or their website about it being a Mothers Day “brunch Buffet only and no A La Carte option. Reservation confirmed by phone and again no mention of this. Again pls note that we prefer A La carte as I have a allergy sensitive daughter and a vegetarian husband. Arrived and was surprised that a buffet set up for brunch. ( note- website has no Brunch Buffet menu either) We figured with great reviews the buffet must be comparable. Well, my family was surprised at the selection and quality for it. My bad, for not asking what the per person charge as it was a ridiculous $75 pp not including even a drink and coffee! We have done hundreds of brunch buffet in under $50 which was so much better than this. Don’t mind paying it it was at the least a good value and quality. I’m hoping that this was an exception and it’s just the buffet brunch menu that needs to be improved. Like I said I had very high hopes of enjoying a great meal from the reviews and recommendations of friends. I’m not sure, if I should give the place a try again for their regular menu offerings??

Fantastic authentic food. The fish collar appetizer was amazing, never had anything like that before! The plantation pie is a must try! The ambience and beauty of the plantation is the perfect setting for a nice dinner.

From a restaurant perspective, the food was outstanding, the service was very good, and value was excellent for this kind of venue in Kauai. While the restaurant is in an old plantation house which is very acceptable, it could be so much more. The building shows signs of being a bit tattered and while they give lip service to its rich history, I wanted to see and learn so much more about the plantation's heritage. A very nice place to have a quality lunch or dinner, but don't expect too much regarding ambiance.

We are full time residents on Kauai and Gaylord's continues to be our favorite lunch or dinner spot. The food is good and varied, with many locally sourced ingredients, and the quality is consistent. Drinks are good, the wine selection is better than most, and desserts are great. I love the Poke Stack as an entree. Service is typically very good if a tad slow at times but really no worse than other sit-down dining on the island. Often at lunch we will order a couple of appetizers to take home for a light dinner.The prices, given the quality of the food and generous portions, are a good value compared to dining at a resort. And then there is the ambience and history of the plantation homestead that adds to the positive experience. Just go there and enjoy it!

Arrived a minute early for 7:15 reservation. Didn’t get seated until 7:35pm, didn’t get a drink until 8:15. Food order taken at 8:15 and food served at 8:50. Waitress was perfectly nice but, plainly, things aren’t working. Food was mediocre on an island with quite a few great restaurants. In short, don’t go here. Go somewhere better.

I hadn’t been to Gaylord’s in years. We had a wonderful lunch. The service was A+. The food was really good and priced moderately. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to come back. A wonderful respite after an errand day in Lihue. I’ll be back soon. Aloha and mahalo.
