The Pit - Durham Ratings and Reviews
My ribs were great, but my sweet potato fries must have set for awhile because there were not warm and rather soggie. The fried okra was okay but not as good as other restaurants. Pecan pie was good but crust was a little too thick. We have eaten't at the Pit before but I always ordered ribs and potato salad.
Food is very good, but a little on the pricey side for BBQ,. Noise level is VERY LOUD. Parking is difficult unless you want to valet park. The draft beer was not cold. That's a let down when you pay $6 for a beer. Service was not great as they were really busy and our waiter didn't really give us a chance to tell him about the warm beer.
We had a reservation and still had to wait 20 minutes for our table. Also, we had a table of 8 and could not get service. The server had other tables close to us but would never come over. The other tables were much smaller and all male guests so she was not interested in a mixed gender business meeting. The food was great but the service was terrible.
So I know the food scene in The Durham area is great and growing. However, a visit to The Pit each time I visit my son at Duke is a must. And does not disappoint! The sampler blew us away with the Soul Rolls, cheese balls & bruschetta was wonderful. I got a healthy apinach salad with delicious grilled checkien. My son ordered & devoured the brisket- fall off the bone tender.
I am already looking forward to my next visit to The Pit .... and to see my son at college!!!!
Popular barbecue spot hosting many groups, with many great sounding choices on the menu. Unfortunately we had mixed results with the food. My daughters had burgers which were great, but we found the consistency of the pulled pork to be a bit to mushy for our tastes.
Service was friendly, but a little disjoint on the night we were there, but i think that was just due to how busy they were.
We took some friends from out of town to experience southern food. The food was good and they enjoyed it but the service was terrible. Our waiter was overwhelmed with a large table and kept forgetting about us. We didn't get our biscuits until our dinner came out, and when our family style dinner arrived we had no plates to put it on. He also up-sold us on more food than we needed. We waited a long time for our check and my husband finally just went to find our waiter. The noise level was intense and we couldn't carry on a conversation.
Had a group of 9. They couldn't keep us all together for some reason. To be fair, made original reservation for 6. Made a second, separate reservation to accommodate, with the understanding that there was a possibility that we wouldn't all be together. All good except when we looked around after seated, there were plenty of tables available that could've fit us all together. Hence weak effort in trying to keep our party together and we almost left!
