The place is going downhill.
Service was the biggest disappoint.
A few friends were sat before my arrival, upon getting the table, took a while for the server realize I was there. My drink order was incomplete after that.
Another 15min goes by prior the server comes to take our order. Ticket time was way too long, above the average standard of 15min. My friend's salad order came wrong, refire of that salad took longer than the original ticket, which allowed me and my friends finish eating before the salad made to the table. Upon complain, manager comped dinner, however service remained poor. The original server never came to the table and the other two did little effort to pick up.
I always thought of The Pit as a place to take friends and family for a traditional southern meal, but with the current service, I'll find my BBQ elsewhere.
We were a party of 8 celebrating our family Thanksgiving. Our waitress started off by not bringing hushpuppies and bread without being asked. Two of our guest ordered white meat chicken and she brought both of them dark meat without saying anything and when asked said the chef told her they were out of white meat but would have him put some on for them. It was towards the end of the night so it seemed to us that they just wanted to get rid of what they already had cooked instead of giving them what they actually ordered. Vegetables looked like they had been sitting out all day and were the last little bit left. The waitress got multiple orders incorrect at our table. I understand it was the end of the night but we were a larger party and would expect the same service for all guest no matter what time of day. The Pit is a special place for our family as two of the guest that night had there wedding rehearsal dinner there a few years ago. We were all highly disappointed in our service and quality of food.
Booked table a few months back as coming over to family from England for my husbands 60th birthday however table was not ready and we were originally given a table as though we had just turned up that evening. We had to ask for one of the booths and the lady waa a little rude to begin with but we hot a good table in the end. On my reservation I put that this was a special occasion and that we were coming all the way from England but this had not been noted. The food was good but the overall experience not as special as I was expecting. We came over 3 years ago and that seemed much more welcoming and felt special.
The Pit was avsolutely amazing! We went to celebrate a special occasion and made reservations (HIGHLY recommended - they are always packed!). The food is all to die for, and the drinks are wonderful. If you get too much, it reheats amazingly well too. They have nailed BBQ.
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent overall experience. We were visiting from Canada, and the wonderful bartender helped us navigate the local craft beers. The food was sublime, well priced with big portions. I'm a vegetarian, and highly recommend the meatless chicken they serve, it was the best I've ever had. My father had the beef brisket which he loved (him being picky with resturants is very indicative of their quality of food.) The Authentic Pit seems to be a local hotspot, and it is very readily apparent as to why that is. When we visit North Carolina again, this resturant will surely be at the top of our to-do list. Thanks for an amazing time.
We just moved to the area and we wanted to try a local restaurant for my birthday. After some research, I found The Pit online. It had great reviews and I am a sucker for BBQ. The menu is amazing and there is so much food that we want to try. The food we got was great, the servers were great, and our whole experience was great. I cannot wait to come back and try some more of their great food.
Been a few times. Food has always been good, but highly disappointed that the two things we went for, brisket and baby back ribs, they didn't have available. Would also like to see a small order of ribs,when they have them, on the kids menu. For having only ordered1 appetizer, no alcoholic beverages and 3 adult meals for 4 people, one being a fish sandwich, and no dessert...our bill was almost $80 and that was lunch time. Also, just a note, we reserved a table for 1:45 through Open Table but arrived and were seated a little earlier. The problem with this was that the restaurant didn't communicate this with Open Table and we were marked as "No Show. It was an easy fix, but just wanted to mention it.
The food was served quickly, however the ribs were only warm and sauce congilled. The sweet potato fries were also only warm and limp. The best part were the hush puppies. Had to shout to be heard by fellow diners. Servers were very attentive. After being told the Pit had the best ribs in the area, we were very disappointed .
Took friends to the Pit that where visiting from out of town. They wanted to try North Carolina BBQ. So we went to the Pit thinking it would be good. We all ordered the pulled pork dinner and were very disappointed. Each of us had a piece of pork that was dark brown to black and hard as a rock. We could not even rip the fibers apart. All we ate were the sides. It was as though the meat had been dried over a fire for days till black and petrified. It is likely the worst meal I have ever had in Raleigh and we will never return. My only regret is that I did not send the food back and worse than that I actually paid for the meal. For that I am upset with myself not them.
