First time back in a couple years and was disappointed. The food was very under seasoned, we tried several meats and were impressed with none, especially the dry brisket. The best part of our meal was the green beans. The server was very nice but we won’t be back.

I had been warned that the food has gone downhill and I saw it for myself. The barbecue was floating in water and that water drowned my sides as well. The pimento cheese ball appetizer was subpar at best and they used to be really good. Service was fine but the food was terrible. I won’t be coming back.

Excellent bbq. BEST fried chicken I have ever had. Great old fashioned made by the bartender. Brisket was exceptional. Definitely add this to my list of repeat visit places.

Service was fantastic, covid protocols were great, but the food was not as good as it normally is. The sides were great and drinks from the bar were really good. The pulled pork was dry and the chopped pork was overly mushy. Not the best we’ve had there, but we will still be going back.

Arrived from Cali and needed to try Carolina BBQ. This was the perfect place for it. Cool part of town, great staff, delish BBQ and a lot of fun. The BBQ didn’t disappoint. Two of us got the Big Boy Platter and has leftovers for days. Everything we had was good.

So so good! We ordered the Big Boy Plate and a Pulled Pork dish to share with 2 people to get a feel for a variery of meats. Our top 2 meats had to be the Brisket, it was cooked to perfection and the BBQ chicken, it fell right off the bone and had such amazing smokey flavor. The brussel sprouts have bacon in them and a slight kick and were so yummy! Highly recommend the banana pudding as well. Next time I'm in Raleigh, I will be returning!

We are frequent customers of The Pit and will continue to be. My meal of chopped BBQ was very good, but my wife's pulled pork was below standards that we typically expect. Also we had to ask for the biscuits that are usually automatically provided with the meal.

We live in Florida so our BBQ is like ketchup lol, Me and my boyfriend had a wonderful time service was polite and answered any and all questions we had, the food was so good we didn't have space for dessert!

The food is always good, but didn’t quite hit the mark on this visit. The ribs were very thick (almost seemed like country ribs) and were tough, needed to be cut off the bone. Our server was pleasant but impersonal. If it had been only me and my spouse it would have been ok, but we brought out-of-town guests with us and we had raved about how good The Pit was. We will eat here again and hope that it returns to the great food we have become used to.

My sister, niece & I were celebrating my nephew’s 20th birthday. My sister had visited this location once and I’d visited the Durham location twice. Our server, was David I think. He was okay. My sister is critical. I have no opinion since, perhaps he was a manager, brought refills of empty glasses to our table. The Pit was a nice change and compromise to eateries my younger niece and nephew would have chosen. I also appreciate that they required reservations. It was essential we celebrate without stress since our visit was during the week and we all had work or school the next day. We felt safe dining here during a pandemic. We all enjoyed our meal except my sister didn’t like the collards. They were probably cooked without ham hock or other seasoning.

Our server was excellent! Charles? Food was very good except that my brisket was a bit dry and overdone. I think I got the end piece. My wife's brisket was much better. Regardless, we trust the food at the Pit, and we appreciate getting such quantity and quality and service at a reasonable price.

We came in on Labor Day late afternoon ask to sit outside, no problem, 2 of us ordered pulled BBQ, 2 chopped, manager comes out says they burned the shoulders so he would not recommend the pulled. We were like ok give us 4 chopped, the BBQ had a very distinctive burned flavor. They just chopped up burn product. There was also about 400 flies on the burned BBQ while we tried to eat it. I have eaten at the Pit in Durham and had good experiences I will never go back to the Raleigh Pitt. I can't believe they served burnt BBQ to everybody that night. Hell it's a freaking BBQ restaurant, what else do you go there for. Oh and the collard greens were not good either. Fried green tomatoes were very good.

We went for a birthday celebration. Because of COVID, a mask is required and tables are spread out, which makes the place seem bare but I’m thankful for what they are doing. Food was wonderful. Everyone loved it. The big boy burger was huge!! The server was knowledgeable for our questions. Will return.

Ribs, meatloaf and chicken great - green beans cold, slaw was not the same, hush puppies and the sampler items that were fried had a bitter taste like old oil-
Eat the hush puppies with butter and taste some thing sweet like tea the oil coats your tongue-bitter
Everything else tasted great and service was on point.

AMAZING food, fast service, great atmosphere, awesome waiter. With salt and pepper off the tables now due to Covid, I keep having to ask restaurants for salt. It’s a pet peeve of mine. Not here! Our server brought us paper bags for our masks and asked if we wanted salt/pepper. I didn’t have to ask. We will definitely be back the next time we’re in Raleigh.

So impressed as to how The Pit is handling COVID-19 and social distancing!!!! We received little brown bags to store our masks away and had individual packs of hand sanitizer as well. Every other table was closed to maintain appropriate spacing!!! Great service and great food as usual!!! 👍🏼

The restaurant was nice, but I was seated near the kitchen and that was my view. I felt like I was staring at the cooks and watching the staff walk back and forth. The food was delicious. The salmon needed a lil more seasoning, but I loved the texture. The macaroni and cheese was so good, I ordered some to go. I also had collards and they were just right. My date ordered a big boy meal with a variety of meats, which was all good. (We sampled each other's plates?I liked the turkey BBQ with the rib sauce. The baked beans were different than I'm use to. They had sort of a kick to them, but they were tasty. It was my date birthday and we recieved a complimentary dessert. He chose the carrot cake and it was the best I ever had! I will go back again.
