There were 4 of us going to see “Bright Star” at Raleigh Memorial Hall at 7:30. We had reservations at 6 but due to traffic we were 10 minutes late. I called and they held our reservation. We had a great meal of brisket, fried chicken and barbecue with lots os sides and complimentary biscuits and hush puppies. Service was great and we left by 7:10. Made to the play in plenty of time. Was a great evening with friends.

We sat outside on the side of the restaurant instead of the front. At first we thought this would be better because it was in the shade but the noise from the next door bar was very disturbing. They allow dogs on the patio which is fine if they aren’t loud. Unfortunately the dogs that night were very loud. They also have a giant Jenga game for groups to play. Fun but loud when drunk patrons scream and yell while playing the game.

The meat was good but the beans and Brussel sprouts were a soggy mess. Overall I was not pleased because I had talked up The Pit to my group and convinced them to go. I don’t think they were all that happy.

We had been in the past and the food was amazing. This time all the meat was very dry and overcooked. Everyone in our party had either the baby back ribs or brisket. There service was very slow, we waited 40 minute for our food to come out. Very disappointing

We had a 615 reservation and sat at 625 and we went down hill from there. The server had way too many tables and was not able to provide adequate service. We order apps at 645 and they came 20 minutes later. Our dinners were servered 90 minutes after we sat!! The food was cold and the plates sloppy. The food had no flavor, greasy( and not in a good way), some items were over cooked. Not a good experience!

I always recommend The Pit to out-of-town guests who visit Raleigh for the first time, and this week was no exception. I brought a group of 9 to dine on Monday and we were served quickly and efficiently. The food was adequate but not the best I’ve had in past meals, and the hush puppies were cold, hard and dry. The meal was not a good value for its price.

The food was amazing. The service was off. Been to the pit multiple times and always great service. This time we had to ask for refills and never was asked how the food was or if we wanted Dessert. It was my wife’s birthday. I was going to get something for dessert for her. But they came and put the check on the table and didn’t say anything. It was the wrong check and had to wave someone down to tell them it was not right. At that point my wife was ready to go.

The Pit was one of our favorite restaurants but sadly not any longer. Very disappointed in the unprofessional service we received and the food was even worse! Our meal was not delivered to the table correctly, no apologies from the staff. Even acted as if it were a bother to correct the order. Then the waitress carelessly poured drink on the floor and on our son in laws knee. The food was the worse! Extremely dry barbecue. So dried out we could not eat it. My husbands ribs smelled very high of lighter fluid. The wait staff knew we were dissatisfied and not one person bothered to speak with us! Will not be back and will warn friends, family and Co-workers of our experience.

We had a great meal. As always, the food was delicious and the service was great! It was a little loud, but that didn’t take away from the overall quality of the meal. We loved it and will definitely be back.

I am a vegan. I was slightly annoyed there were no sides for vegans, but I did have the BBQ Soy Nuggets. Soo good. My family who aren't Vegans enjoyed themselves.

I have been looking forward to trying this out since watching/reading "Cooked". The main attraction is the chopped, whole hog bbq. It is outstanding and exceeds expectations. The southern sides are great, as well, and all is accompanied by a good bar menu. The fried chicken was good but the brisket was not good. Still, if you stick to the main attraction, it is a great experience and worth the trip.

The meal was outstanding as always, the service was great and you can’t beat the valet parking. There were enough leftovers for a second meal, including the carrot cake I had for dessert. It was HUGE! Just a great night out for dinner with a visiting friend. He can’t wait to return!

It was overpriced based upon the quality of food. The appitizers were good but the main meal didn't wow me or my family. We left a little disappointed after spending $128 for a meal for 4. In addition, the team concept for service was alittle frustrating having to repeat requests for simple items like utensils or drinks. The resturant is in a great location and convenient to other attractions which is a plus. However, I would find it hard to return or recommend this restaurant to others.

The food at the Pit is amazing - great menu choices and the ability to make your own combinations with the meat. We enjoy the side dishes just as much and the amount of food that you get for the money is very good. It is usually very crowded, and therefore the noise level is pretty high, but that is really the only thing that I could even complain about at the Pit.

They let us in 15 minutes late from our reservation time, I really appreciated the host stand understanding that! We were seated right away and our service was great the entire time! They had a team serving us and they were always on the same page, despite it seeming like they never talked to each other. Our water apologized up and down when they were out of salmon and offered multiple alternatives. Our food came quickly and was delicious! The portions were large and gave me a lunch for the next day.
Overall we were really impressed! Make sure to make a reservation on Open Table, it is completely worth it!

Heard a lot of good things about this place so took the family and guests there tonight for early dinner. Overall we were not impressed. My chopped and pulled BBQ plate was good, but nothing I would consider special or deserving of the praise I had read. My wife got brisket and it was dry and not very flavorful. She didn’t eat it all as she enjoyed her sides more than the brisket.
For the price we paid and for all the glowing reviews I had read, I expected to have really great barbecue. We didn’t. The food was generally good but not as great as expected and fell short in some ways.

Hadn't been to The Pit in a few years. Was worth the trip to downtown. I forgot how much i enjoy the food. The service was good, but a bit spotty as it seemed that we had two servers. One took our drink and appetizer order and then another kept showing up throughout the meal and then the first was back when it was time to pay.

My son and I both ordered the Big boy which was awesome. However, the menu specifies BBQ chicken and I asked to substitute Fried on my platter. My son got a large breast quarter with his but I only got a wing and a small thigh. Didn't care too much because overall the platter is more than I can eat anyway.

Quality was very good as usual!

The Eastern-style NC Barbecue was on point, with some welcome heat. The sides were also well done. Very busy and a little noisy, but the food and service more than makes up for it. Highly recommended.

Everything was great. We had a reservation at a much later time but the staff made an effort to accommodate us earlier. Our servers were attentive and made sure we enjoyed our meal. Definitely get those melt in your mouth barbecues! We ordered barbecue chicken, Carolina ribs and chopped barbecue - all were outstanding!

We sat in the bar area for quicker service. Restaurant was only 1/2 full on Good Friday and we ordered right away. Waitress brought the drinks as expected and 20 minutes later we were looking agitated with no food. We had ordered an appetizer of fried green tomatoes together with our lunch order. She went to check and she said that the food order doesn’t go in until the appetizer comes out. We said we are now really up against a deadline and please hurry with the order. She should have told us that up front but it sure seems wrong when you order all at once. 5-7 minutes later she brought the tomatoes and we said we really really need to go. Finally we just had to have it packed to go after being in the restaurant 45 minutes. We had driven 30 min each way to get there because we had so enjoyed it on our last visit to the area 2 years prior. Of course the food was cold when we were able to eat it. Horrible experience and she acted as if it was our fault because we ordered an appetizer. Don’t know if it was all server error or management but in either case we won’t be back. Seated next to us was another party we had recommended to the restaurant as well. Too bad it was just a bad experience all around.

One of our closest friends came to town from Texas and wanted to try North Carolina BBQ so of course, we thought The Pit! Our thought was - being that’s all they do, it will be amazing... boy were we wrong!
At the start, we were happy! The appetizers were great and the portions were good. They gave us a good size basket of hush puppies and biscuits, both delicious, so we were happy.
Then our entrees came out and it was 0 for 6. My husbands ribs were dry with almost no BBQ sauce, the Mac and cheese was dry and rock hard and the greens tasted like a bucket of salt had been dumped into it. I ordered a salad and had requested very little kale in my salad and no cheese with a piece of salmon on top. The salad was almost ALL kale, there was cheese and the salmon was dry (very over cooked).Our friend that came from Texas hated the dry ribs and the brisket was disappointing at best. My best friend had two bites of her entree and couldn’t eat it. The potato salad was nothing but mayo and vinegar, the brussel sprouts were soggy and full of salt and the turkey was dry. Another friend enjoyed the fried chicken but it had very little flavor - just breading and flour. His wife’s dish was the meatloaf and it looked like country fried steak mixed with chuck and she was very turned off by the presentation. Her dish was also salty and a let down.

The saving grace was the portions. If they could step up their flavors and sauce game, they would be onto something great. Also their draft list is great.

We were also extremely disappointed in the service. Our waiter was young so maybe he was just inexperienced but when none of us were eating, he just came over and cleared the table. He never asked us how it was, if there was anything we’d like to change or if he could substitute anything for us. He checked on us twice in about 90 minutes and we constantly had empty water glasses.

Overall, we would not recommend The Pit.

The Pit had an awesome wait staff. Made reservations quick and easy and were seated right away. The food was terrific and very reasonable. They even offer free valet parking. Great for groups or a dinner for two.
