The Pit Authentic BBQ Ratings and Reviews
Food was excellent , our waiter was great . The first table we had was back in a corner behind a wall so we requested a table near a window . We ended up near the front door which would have been fine normally however it was freezing outside & every time the door open we could feel the cold gust of cold air . I had the brisket , mac & cheese ( yum ) baked beans. Everything was scrumptious .
This used to be our go-to place to take friends and family who were visiting Raleigh from out of town. We had not been in over a year, and this latest trip was disappointing. I felt that the vinegar flavor on the barbecue was overpowering to the point that it was difficult to eat. The side dishes were good as usual though. While the servers offered to get my husband a second beer, they did not refill any of the water glasses at the table.
I would probably go back to give it another shot, in the hopes that the barbecue flavoring was a one-off event rather than a new recipe, but I don't think I would feel comfortable taking guests or recommending that others go there.
The food is alright. My mother’s Mac and cheese is better. The “team waiter” system isn’t effective. We arrived on time. We didn’t get our food until an hour later. Mainly because no one took our order. We had some where to be. We had to take our food to go. We were there for 1.5 hr and could t even eat the food there. I doubt we’ll go back.
It was my birthday and I choose this place for my dinner with my fiancé.Always make reservations if you are going for dinner not sure about lunch. They are really busy so the waitress seem a little impersonal due them needing to keep up. You will usually have two to three waiters for your table. Other wise the food was great we both ordered Turkey bbq and fried chicken combo he had Mac and cheese and candied yams Nd I had Mac and cheese and green beans. Everything was great and they give you hush puppies and biscuits too! Nice place over all just really busy!
Family get together during the holiday season. Food was better than i remembered it from previous visit, wait staff outstanding, food was excellent, prices reasonable. Made reservations ahead and all that worked out good too. Definitely would recommend to everyone. Not one to eat a lot of carbs and sugar and your menu fit in perfectly for that.
We had our Thanksgiving Dinner at The Pit. Our food was done perfectly, able verity that included Turkey, Brisket Bar B Q, and Smoked Ham entries. Veggies and starches were Mashed Potato and candied Sweet Potato with Drinks, coffee and desert. ALL Very good with as much of anything more we needed. Always a great meal
Went for the Thanksgiving dinner special. Service was excellent. Ambiance nice and warm and casual but the the holiday mealwas lacking. The turkey was sparse and little white meat. No cranberry sauce, no whipped cream on pies. The pulled chicken drowned in vinegar was frankly awful, an acquired taste indeed. The ham and stuffing were very good and was what we enjoyed the most. The rest of the food offerings were nothing special. I don’t think we will return next Thanksgiving, sorry. On the plus side, it was nice to be able to take home leftovers and the beer selection was excellent.
Our family went for Thanksgiving ... delicious! I loved the family style service as opposed to a typical buffet. The food was delicious! Service was a bit slow at times but, in the spirit of having a leisurely holiday meal, it was fine.
My only suggestion would be to offer something else as a dessert in addition to pecan or pumpkin pie (something simple such as banana pudding or just a bowl of ice cream) ... a nut allergy definitely cut down the dessert option.
Overall, delicious and we'd go back next Thanksgiving!
The place is going downhill.
Service was the biggest disappoint.
A few friends were sat before my arrival, upon getting the table, took a while for the server realize I was there. My drink order was incomplete after that.
Another 15min goes by prior the server comes to take our order. Ticket time was way too long, above the average standard of 15min. My friend's salad order came wrong, refire of that salad took longer than the original ticket, which allowed me and my friends finish eating before the salad made to the table. Upon complain, manager comped dinner, however service remained poor. The original server never came to the table and the other two did little effort to pick up.
I always thought of The Pit as a place to take friends and family for a traditional southern meal, but with the current service, I'll find my BBQ elsewhere.
We were a party of 8 celebrating our family Thanksgiving. Our waitress started off by not bringing hushpuppies and bread without being asked. Two of our guest ordered white meat chicken and she brought both of them dark meat without saying anything and when asked said the chef told her they were out of white meat but would have him put some on for them. It was towards the end of the night so it seemed to us that they just wanted to get rid of what they already had cooked instead of giving them what they actually ordered. Vegetables looked like they had been sitting out all day and were the last little bit left. The waitress got multiple orders incorrect at our table. I understand it was the end of the night but we were a larger party and would expect the same service for all guest no matter what time of day. The Pit is a special place for our family as two of the guest that night had there wedding rehearsal dinner there a few years ago. We were all highly disappointed in our service and quality of food.
I made a reservation for my son's birthday for 4 . We arrived about 20 mins early . The hostess was unable to find our reservation , however she assisted us in locating the original confirmation from the email & some how the reservation had been accidentally cancelled. However they were still very accommodating & were able to seat us within just a few mins . Our waitress was very nice and attentive . This was my first time although I have heard about " the Pit " for years & how awesome the food is . Well the stories are true , lol . Everything was delicious. The portions on the plate at first didn't seem like a lot for the price ( I had the BBQ & fried chicken combo ) , however no one in our party was able to finish . we all had to go boxes. The restaurant has a casual rustic charm which I loved. My only con - that I waited so long to try this place. I look forward to my next visit.
