Awesome! Wait staff was great, very respectful and helpful.
I love The Pit. It's our go to when friends or family visit from out of town. The food is spectacular. Service is good once you get to the table, but we had to wait for a table even though we had a reservation. Of course as soon as we sat down everything was awesome. I'd still recommend.
Took visitors from London, England and they loved the pull pork and fried chicken and also to see the kitchen.
We stopped by and enjoyed the appetizer sampler platter as well as the fried green tomatoes
Service was spot on they changed shifts and it was seemless
Great food overall. Corn bread had too much clove flavor for my taste. My friend chicken was dry/old. Otherwise, fantastic brisket, pulled pork, slaw, Brunswick stew amd dessert (hand pie). We will come back, but not get the fried chicken.
Excellent service. Food very good even though the brisket was a bit dry, but very good food nevertheless.
Great service & food!
Everything was tasty except the fried chicken. It was way too dry. Also, the service was slow. Ordered a beer and it never showed up... until we asked for the check. Supposedly, we had a server team of three people... however, after dropping the food off nobody ever showed back up to see if we were ok. A bit disappointed in the service... especially since it was a special occasion for our dinner outing. Will pick a different place next time.
The food was great as always but the service was sub par. The “team service” concept sucks because we had no idea who to ask for stuff. Is one our drink server? Is one for other stuff?? So confusing.
The atmosphere was great. The meats were fantastic but the sides were just okay. My brussel sprouts were mushy and my baked beans were on the crunchy side. It was a little challenging to get refills.
Our first visit certainly won’t be our last. Food was great! Service was quick and friendly.
Attentive and friendly staff and incredible food! I'll be back.
Really disappointed in our visit on Tuesday
Restaurant over half empty throughout our meal but got put in a terrible seating location. Asked for a booth but was told they only had “a half booth left”. Was taken to 104/105 (two adjacent “2 tops”).
Booth side was highly uncomfortable as pleather bench was ripped up on both seats. Not sure how this was the only option available. Tables were uneven and at different heights so kept hitting elbow, cup, etc. on the higher lip. Had to sit on top of my coat.
When food came, cornbread was not good like in past. Almost like it was already cooked before and reheated. Edges were impenetrable, even with a fork, and it was dry. We ordered bbq pimento fries and the pimento was not heated / melted through. So, hot fries that got soggy under cold pimento and room temp BBQ pork. When meal came, pulled pork was dry and still, as if it had been sitting.
For the price, this was incredibly disappointing. Waitress was attentive and friendly but “runners” brought all food and apps, and no manager was visible or ever checked in.
A fun experience with friends from all over the world for some great BBQ. The menu has something for everyone. Will definitely be back for more soon.
Always a favorite place of ours while in Raleigh. Brisket was on the dry side. Fried chicken and chopped pork combo was very good. The legs of our table were uneven but otherwise a pleasant dinner.
Grandparent visit to see students. Fun night, very relaxed. Servers awesome
Fantastic authentic Carolina BBQ, wonderful hushpuppies. The ginger cookie that comes with the homemade bourbon icecream was delicious as well. Definitely make a reservation, though.
Great food and atmosphere for a family birthday party. Went Saturday around noon and the service and food were excellent. They didn’t question us bringing our own cake and candles and even brought us more plates and tableware. Will definitely go back.
Outstanding food, attentive service and fun atmosphere. Would highly recommend!
Fried chicken was terrible. I ordered dark meat and it was LOTS of "refried skin" ; no meat. Could see bone on drum stick before even starting eating. And, it was cold. Collards were good. Mash potatoes and gravy ok; not hot. Barbecue was spicier that was told. Hush puppies cold. Biscuit good. Banana pudding was all meringue, very little banana pudding. Took home brunswick stew; good. Overall quality not worth the $. Not the quality I experience a few years ago.
The pulled and chopped pork was dried out and lack flavor. It actually wasn’t good. We left 2/3 on our plate. The brisket was so dry and over cooked, it tasted like a pot roast gone bad.
Service was great. They allowed us to enjoy a good meal without being rushed.
We were pretty disappointed in our latest visit to The Pit. We have been there many times and even threw a graduation party there for one of our kids. However, things seem to have gone downhill. The main issue was the shockingly bad service—so much so that we feared our server had walked out. From the bartenders’ rudeness to the server’s neglect, the poor service honestly surprised us. It was among the worst we have ever had in any restaurant. The food was okay (although the hush puppies are now only tiny nuggets), but we could not get past the rude/angry attitudes of the entire wait staff. Our table wasn’t ready for our reservation; the bartender wouldn’t even look at us. When we finally were seated, it took 20 minutes until our server came over; however, we never saw her again. Someone else slung our food down in a way that made us feel like inmates receiving prison rations. We couldn’t flag anyone down for a second drink (which we needed badly after the prior rudeness), and we struggled to find someone to bring us our bill. We were bewildered by this treatment. I am hoping that this was only a temporary blip, but it definitely put us off visiting The Pit for a while.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday at his favorite spot. We made reservations for a Friday night and were seated immediately. Service was quick and consistent throughout our visit. We started with cocktails 🍹 and appetizers ( BBQ soul rolls, deviled eggs, & sweet potato cornbread). The smoked meatloaf, BBQ chicken, and chopped pork BBQ were all excellent.
Service and food were great
Well, I took my VP to The Pit thinking it would be a nice representation of North Carolina BBQ. Our server was really lousy and seemed like she was trying to turn the table so she could make more $$$ over the lunch hour. Food was good NOT great. Disappointing experience and will look for other places.
Seated immediately and attentive friendly service. Food was delicious. We look forward to returning.
Sometimes the food here is a little hit and miss. I’ve had days where the brisket is like butter and can’t be beat, and others where it’s dry and the flavor isn’t quite there.
The baked beans have always been too undercooked. Still, The Pit is pretty decent and I’ll likely be back again
Food was wonderful as always, service was great. Couldn’t ask for more!
The food was outstanding. Best BBQ ever. Enjoyed desert, along with the side dishes.
This was my first time at The Pit and I really enjoyed it. I had a reservation for 4 and was the first to show up, so I had a soft drink at the bar. Next thing I know, a basket with a biscuit and hushpuppies showed up. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was very pleasant and prices not outrageous. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
tThis was the Romeo's first visit to The Pit BBQ! We are all 80+, weekly fine dining. The Pit was sort of outside our normal selections. BUT!! it was great!! Free Valet Parking set the tone for a special event. The greeter, server, back up server and all the staff were geared to making us feel special. Wonderful High Protein, Low Carb menu selections. Next time I will order two Brussel Sprout side dishes. Out of this world. I had Brisket and Pulled Pork Combo. Perfect Good wine selection.
Romeo's will return.
At the present time, I am not sure I would recommend the Pit to anyone. This is our staff's 2nd time having a bad experience. We didn't say anything the first time because we figured it may have been an off day. We went yesterday for a birthday celebration. It took forever to get our food and the check. When they brought the food, they gave it to the wrong people (I also witnessed this happening at another table with a totally different waiter). The sliders had frozen tomatoes on it and the meat was so thick you could not bite through it. One person in our party did not order mac-n-cheese but it came on his plate. When he asked them to remove it, he had to ask twice before it was done as he doesn't eat mac-n-cheese. This is not the Pit I remember. Not sure if or when we will return.
Exceeded our expectations! Will be back.
Not your average BBQ joint, nice atmosphere, beautiful , fabulous ambience . Food is superb-especially the pulled pork and baby back ribs. Service is a 10 !
Service was great and incredibly nice. Made the experience great!
Best BBQ period!
Team service left a few holes in our service. Otherwise, awesome visit.
We were seated immediately upon arrival, even though we were early for our reservation. Our waitress was both attentive and knowledgeable. The Scupperdine Sangria she recommended was delicious. Food was served promptly and was very good. Great spot for a pre-concert meal. The only down side came after we left. We received a notice from Open Table that we were no-shows for our reservation. Kind of a pain to have to go online and explain that we not no-shows.
My friend was visiting from New York and wanted an authentic Southern meal and The Pit met her expectations and exceeded mine. We loved the Pit rolls, which are a unique presentation of Southern cuisine. The waiters were friendly and courteous. I intend to visit regularly.
