The Pit Authentic BBQ
Book your next event with us
This is a hopping place in a warehouse in downtown Raleigh. Staff is friendly and efficient. Reservations are highly recommended. We were there on a Sunday night and it was packed. Good menu choices and the food is excellent. Don’t think you’re going there to have a nice, quiet, romantic experience. That ain’t gonna happen. You’re going there for a good meal and lots of food.
I had stopped going to the Pitt years ago. And my family and friends decided Sunday that the wanted to go. So I was reluctant and gave in. The best decision i made in a long time! The food was fresh and extremely delicious! Come to think about it...I'm going back this week! I recommend the warmed up banana pudding 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
It was nice! Good service and fast
Check-in for my reservation a bit early, no problem table will be ready we will text you...25 minutes later still no text...check back and one of the hostess blithely state it was their fault no explanation no customer care put forth. Food was mediocre and for the price not worth it. Go somewhere else as they will forget about at several stages of dinning as food takes a long time even when a number of tables are empty.
The food was average, the music was turned up loud for 5pm dinner and the service was just ok.
BBQ quality was not as good as in the past. Skip the forgettable fries and just order a double portion of collard greens, which are still outstanding.
Showed up 9 min late due to traffic and they had given our table away. Ordered food and got our entries before the bread service came. Then during our meal the hostess keep walking around the corner looking at our table to see how.much longer we'd be.
Me and my friends enjoyed dining at the Pit for lunch.
Hushpuppies and biscuit were fantastic.
Friend Chicken, Mac n cheese, yams, and sweet potato fries were delicious but the pulled pork was dry.
Always a great place to take out of town guest who are looking for a downtown experience including some authentic bar-b-que. Atmosphere is nice but not too upscale that you are not comfortable in shorts. Offers both sweet and vinegar based sauces.
This place never disappoints!! Whenever we travel to The Raleigh/Durham area, we try to swing by. Also, not only is the food great, they’re like drink ninjas keeping your cup full. I swear we didn’t even see them come by a few times and our cups were full again!!
Great food. 1 waitstaff’s disposition of “going through the motions “ - disinterested pulled down the pleasantries of the other waitstaff.
Food not as great this time. Last time food was better. My ribs and mac were dry. Not sure if the cook made a difference. The waitress was just ok
Great BBQ, pleasant attractive space, attentive sevvice, a bit noisy (but it was Saturday night).
Portions are large, so I'd advise against appetizers unless you're incredibly hungry.
They do a nice job with sides - brussels sprouts were especially tasty
We always enjoy The Pit. Our wait team led by Karen was awesome!!
Many nice features, but if u r going specifically bc u r a bbq snob hungry for exceptional meat, u may be disappointed. Ordered chopped bbq same for brisket. Took it home, chopped it up, soaked in vinegar bbq sauce and added it to bowl of their Brunswick stew used as base for family meal — thrice cooked pork! Maybe it was wrong night but won’t go back.
The food was great and the only con was that it took awhile to get our food during the busy Saturday lunch time. I highly recommend this place if you like BBQ and/or comfort food.
So every time I come to NC I go to The Pit. Their food is phenomenal. Authentic BBQ , large portions and great service. The drink menu is really good as well. My favorite is their sweet potato corn bread and hush puppies. OMG to die for. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Bring your friends!
Don’t get the salmon - it was very dry. The green beans were drenched in butter. Not thrilled.
We had a reservation for Friday evening and did not know what to expect. Was very pleased when we were immediately seated upon arrival. The service was timely and excellent and the food was delicious. Our entire group thought the portions were more than adequate. Overall, a great experience.
We had to rate the food poor due to the fact -we never received it. Our appetizer of fried green tomatoes were good. However after 30+ minutes AFTER receiving our appetizer we still did not have our food. Team servers refilled our beverages but head waitress never came back with entrees of House bbq sandwiches and a chicken sandwich and when we sought her out and asked the first time we were told the delay was due to the “chicken sandwich”. We waited 5minutes more pushing it to 45 minutes we went to hostess stand to inquire and she was going to check. Waited 10 minutes more and finally had to call the experience a failure, sought out manager and left. Server said she didn’t know what she did wrong? Well we didn’t either. Went a away very disappointed. Had been looking forward to eating here several times when visiting Raleigh and never had the opportunity, Oh well.
Fabulous food with great customer service and the Best bbq in Raleigh
Went to The Pit yesterday with some co-workers for lunch for the first time. Everything was great from the atmosphere, service and the food!
Robotic and unfriendly wait staff appeared to want to be anywhere but there. They did the job, it just was not pleasant. Food is good and we felt the price was fair.
First-time visit to Raleigh, NC. I hope to be back soon!
We LOVE The Pit! Delicious, succulent food, great ambience, friendly service, always a delightful experience. One of our favorite places to go for celebrations, relaxing date night dinners or to show off Raleigh to our out of town guests. We have a lot of love for The Pit!
We were very disappointed with our experience. I had heard great things about the food here, but was disappointed to find that the food was terrible. Our food came out about 5 minutes after ordering and was clearly just a bunch of reheated pre-cooked food. The mac n cheese was dry as was the BBQ. About the only thing that was good and fresh were the hush puppies. The biscuits were even hard and stale. For the prices, I would expect much more. My husband and brother left hungry as the serving size of the brisket was very small. I would not go back if you paid me. It was just that bad.
All great however kids meal chicken over cooked and kids burger over cooked. Corn bread awesome and brisket fantastic desserts good
Fantastic food. Why variety of southern living. I’ve already ordered a sampler appetizer, the corn bread, a variety of entrees, and carrot cake. The corn bread was the only dish we felt was not great. The maple butter on the dish was good but the bread itself didn’t resemble traditional savory or sweet cornbread. Had a tan to brown appearance internally and was denser than expected. Everything in the sampler was heavenly. The pulled pork, chopped pork, brisket, chicken, and ribs were absolutely phenomenal. The carrot cake was arguably one of the best in Raleigh. Overall the food was excellent. The sides were fantastic. Only one needed additional salt (potato salad). The staff and cooks were incredible and very attentive.
Great service and drinks. Side dishes great- ribs are tender but lack real flavor. Each bite should be fabulous- it’s not.
The collard greens are amazing!!! The brisket is very tender. Big bar area with high tops and lots of booth seating! Drinks are strong - not a bad thing!
First BBQ I tried in NC this week - I would come back!
Food was over cooked on 5/5 plates. Service was sparse.
This was the first time we've eaten at the Pit and we were very happy with the food, service and the overall environment. We reserved a table via Open Table and our table was ready when we walked thru the door. The other surprise was that Valet parking was gratis. We were greeted with 3 waitresses and they all were prompt in taking our order, bringing our food, refilling our drinks. The food was great and plentiful. We will visit the restaurant again in the near future.
This restaurant gets a lot of buzz, but I found the food to be average. The entree came very shortly after our appetizer did. My entree was warm, not hot.
It was great! I highly recommend it to anyone in the area!
Hostess was not friendly at all. Walked us to table and walked away. Didn't say a word. Restaurant was very busy. We waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive. It NEVER takes this long here....ever. We were also given the wrong check initially. We always love The Pit and this was our first "less than stellar" experience. I would still recommend it, but just be wary when they are super busy.
Hands down the best BBQ I’ve had. Service was great!
Great place , delicious ribs and food... love it!
