The Pines Tavern
The Pines Tavern has been operating for almost a hundred years in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. It serves a range of classic American dishes in an elegant and refined environment. The Pines Tavern kitchen is seasonally-driven and the menu changes often to reflect whatever is fresh and in season. It also uses only organic non-GMO produce.
Fantastic meal and great service!
Got seated right away. Waitress was on the spot the whole time. Went over the specials and answered all our questions. Great food and great service. Food was fabulous.
Great food. Nice little neighborhood find. But beware the root beer! Went for dinner as a family, which includes 3 boys in their early teens. Asked the server which fountain drinks they serve and if they have root beer in the soda fountain. The server responded "sort of," and explained they have root beer syrup, which they mix with soda water from the fountain. As boys will do throughout the course of a meal that includes appetizers, salad and a main course, they each had a couple refills. We were shocked to receive a $32 bill for the "fountain" root beer. We expect to pay a premium for quality and service, but that's clearly an excessive markup. Our server never warned us that each glass of soda was $4.
Thank you for your review. We have reviewed this with all of the servers and we appreciate your constructive comments. We appreciate your patronage.
The bartender was our server on a fri night at 7. The place was empty so we sat in the bar. He was very nice but bad service . The special was stuffed tilapia . I ordered it, waited an hour, and it was raw!! He took it away ,and offered me a free desert. My husband had cold lobster bisque all broth, and lobster salad . This was our 3rd bad meal in the last 2 mths and wont be returning. You used to have good food and now you dont . I would look into the problem and fix it . The place is always empty which is a bad sign. Its a shame because we live close.
Thank you for your review. We actually were busy that evening; most people were outside and many people had just left for the local football game down the street. According to our data entry records, you checked in at 6:45 PM for a 7 PM reservation, decided to go to the bar, your order was placed at 7:07 PM and your check for payment was printed at at 7:47 PM. and swiped at 7:51 PM. We apologize for your underdone fish; we did remove it from your check and offered to make you something else.
Great atmosphere sitting outside. Great service. Great value.
Still a good place to go, but the quality has gone down. It was a Thursday night, and they put all the outside diners in a small area which is not as nice as the area behind the restaurant. The server was pretty good, but it was a long wait (1/2 hour) for our dinner. The food was ok. I like this place and write it only as a wake-up call.
We have been to the Pines many times over the years and have enjoyed the setting, the service and the food. However, for the past two meals we have eaten there the food has not been very good. My halibut this past visit was very dry and I would say that the recipe was misconceived. Similarly, my wife was not impressed with her food.
The service was excellent, as was the setting. The cost was very reasonable.
Disappointing. We hadn’t been to the restaurant in several years and with family in town, we decided to return. The food wasn’t impressive, but we were less impressed with the service. In response to not knowing the local beer special on tap, our server told us she hadn’t worked there for months and then was called suddenly to come in -- and it showed beyond that. It may be nit-picky, but I'd hope a server would at least know to bring complimentary bread to the table, which she did not. The banana Napoleon dessert (creme brûlée, caramel sauce, and bananas -- how could that go wrong?) was spongy with the custard clearly overdone. It was replaced with another dessert that wasn't amazing, but at least edible. Overall, perhaps this was an off-day, but on a Friday evening where most of the tables were empty? I'm not so sure. Give it a try, see for yourself. But for me, I probably won't return.
We enjoy everything about this fine restaurant!
was seated right next to the patio door had to ask for a table change which set a negative impression for the evening
Amazing cauliflower wings
We have found that the dinner menu is always unique with recommendations for wine or beer accompanying the entree. We ate outside on this visit and couldn't be more pleased. The birds singing and the pond streaming made the evening so much more relaxing. In all our visits to this restaurant, we have never been disappointed.
We recently enjoyed a delicious dinner on the lovely back porch of the Pines Tavern. The Pines is a great place for lunch or dinner any time of the year, but I would definitely suggest going in the next two months while the porch is still available to enjoy!
Incredible food and atmosphere.
I hope they could make the outdoor area more accessible.
We went for the watermelon gazpacho. My husband receives The Pines menu notifications so when he saw the gazpacho special menu item, we booked a reservation. We arrived and we’re seated outside. We gave our order at a table tucked under the trees on the most perfect summer evening -soon to enjoy a bottle of Rose with a delicious baked brie appetizer and toast points. Server said our meals would be out soon. We asked about the gazpacho. She realized the mistake and said she would bring it right away. Then the main dishes arrived. No gazpacho. We asked about it again and we were told that another wait staff member took it. And she asked if we still wanted it. And yes, we still want the gazpacho. The fish main meals unfortunately, were dry. And that has never happened to us at The Pines. I’ve never written a bad review on Open Table and I’ve never been disappointed in any of our experiences at The Pines. We get the check and she sets down a small coffee ‘to go’ cup. In it was the gazpacho. We open the cup when we get home. There was about 3 tablespoons of watermelon gazpacho. It was delicious, I have to say- Thank you, Chef. That server though is not representing you well or creating a good experience for your clientele. We will be back as I'm certain it was an off night and I don't think that server will last long at The Pines if this continues to happen.
Thank you for your review and constructive comments. We sincerely apologize. We have addressed the situation with the server. It was the servers's second evening on the job and was apparently overwhelmed. We reviewed your comments and explained from your perspective how this looked. We also gave comments and tips how to handle situations like this. Thank you again for taking the time to write to us. We hope we will have the opportunity to serve you again.
The staff was exceptionally friendly. The drinks were very good, too. Great recommendations from the staff. The outdoor area looked fantastic. Loved the food. It was too much food, but we took some home.
Our server was perfect. She was attentive and knowledgeable, but never interrupted our conversation.
She anticipated our needs.
And the food choices were varied and perfect.
I had catfish and half of my meal was veggies, just as I like it.
This was our first visit to The Pines Tavern in a recommendation. The food and service was excellent. We will definitely be back
Cold crabcake, yesterday's potatoes. When I sent it all back, it got microwaved
First time back at Pines Tavern in over 10 years and it was worth the return. Food was excellent and the view on the back porch was awesome. Looking forward to coming back, hopefully a little sooner than 10 years..
It has been years since we were here, and I was quite disappointed. The menu only had6 dinner items and I wasn't yo fond of any. Online we had seen sea bass, but not on menu. My drink was good, and the fish sandwich was good, but way overpriced for what you got and atmosphere. It just wasn't a classy place anymore.
Al frescoes dining at The Pines Tavern was wonderful!
The staff was wonderful. There was another very large party for a birthday party which made it a bit loud. The food was very good. Had plenty on the menu for vegetarians.
Excellent food and beverages - a very adventurous menu. The vichyssoise was amazing . The use of very local ingredients is admirable.
The food was excellent! Service was prompt! Ambience was wonderful!
Excellent food & service. We always sit in the bar area because it tends to be more quiet. Very pretty outdoor seating. The Tavern Chips are the best in town. Can't skip ordering the Tavern Chips!
Everything was great! We were a little warm towards the end of our date but the service and food were terrific!
I would recommend on the condition that you dont order steak. We had 2 steaks ordered by our dinner party and both were overcooked. If you are going to purchase a $30 steak one would hope it is prepared as ordered but both were overdone. All of the other meals were satisfactory.
Thank you for your review. We are sorry for the doness of your steak. We appreciate your patronage.
Very nice outdoor seating. Like being in the woods.
Great food, but atmosphere terribly lame.
The music being played belongs in a library elevator and is filled with commercials -- just pay the $5/month and eliminate the constant advertisements.
The dining room looks like the eatery of a nursing home.
On a positive note, the food is well prepared and quite tasty!
If the grandparents come to town and you want a low key meal without atmosphere, this is the place.
We enjoyed every part of our dinner at The Pines Tavern. The appetizers were great, especially the deviled eggs. Everyone's entree was presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. I had the citrus salmon which was prepared perfectly and actually melted in my mouth. Our server, Tiffany, could not have been more solicitous and courteous. She seemed to be able to answer our questions even before we asked them, and she was always near when we needed something. We will be back.
Sat on the patio. Service was outstanding. Food was all good.
Very wide selection, inventive and tasty food with options for your veggie side, I’d recommend going there to eat to anyone
The service was poor. Our server was doing the best that she could but they appeared short-handed. The receptionist was busing tables. The bartender should find another profession. he was so slow and he short poured my second glass of wine. The seabass and petite filet were good, but the filet was a micro filet. Certainly not worth the $ 38 price. I do not think we will return to the Pines Tavern anytime in the near future. The wait time for our salad was over 30 minutes. The overall timing of our meals was very long.
Loved the new tables and chairs! The furniture really brings the dining room up to date!
Our server was so awesome and accommodating our need to have some space for a meeting and also have a webinar!
This was our second visit to The Pines Tavern, and it was just as enjoyable as the first time. The food selection is interesting and timely (since it was Derby Day, there were various suitable options) and the service was on point.
The service was very slow. The food was mediocre. We were surprised as we have had better experience in the past.
Since we live very close to Pines Tavern, we have frequented this restaurant often over the last 20 years. As with most businesses these days, we have seen a decline in the quality in the last few years.
On our recent visit, our party ordered the Turtle soup (excellent), the Portobello appetizer (excellent) the CRISPY SHREDDED BRUSSELS SPROUTS ( were not good) and house salads with Chardonnay dressing (dressing was not very good because it tasted exactly like ONLY chardonnay).
The entrees were Meatloaf which was a nice portion and was very good. The Chicken Pot Pie was good but served in what appeared to be a soup cup.
Now maybe the problem is seafood. The GRILLED SHRIMP QUINOA BOWL had very small shrimp that were a little tough although tasty. And the scallops were also small and a bit overcooked. The risotto was fine but the asparagus was very very thin.
We are not fans of huge portions so that was not an issue except for the Pot Pie. But it is odd to see asparagus that is so thin when you can find nice sized stalks at any supermarket. And when it comes to seafood, decent size shrimp and scallops are a must.
We also noticed that there are no longer tablecloths. Not a big deal but certainly not what we are used to at the Pines.
The restaurant is still good, but is not the excellent quality it once was.
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your constructive comments and value that you have been long time customers. Just a few things for clarificaton: We do not have nor ever had Chardonnay Dressing. The Chicken Pot Pie comes in a 5 inch round 3 inch deep souffle dish not a soup cup. We actually source out "pencil asparagus becaue it is younger, sweeter and tender. We have been here 41 years and wiill continually work on improving.
We had an awesome dinner. We had a couple of issues last time and was graciously sent a gift card to come back. Glad we did! Had the grouper soecial which was reasonable and very tasty.
Lucky to have this high quality restaurant so close to us. It’s one of the few quiet places that has delicious, innovative, and healthy food across the menu.
Thank you for your review. We try very hard to have a healthier menu for our guests. We appreciate you recognizing our efforts.
