The Pier House Ratings and Reviews
While in Cape May we had dinner at one of our favorite spots, The Pier House on Beach Avenue. This is a white table cloth restaurant with a cheerful, well trained wait staff. The food is very good. The shrimp cocktails are terrific. The grouper and pork chop are very good as well.
The Pier House is a local favorite in a very accessible location and it has a good wine list, unlike so many of the Cape May restaurants. We have been going here for years and have never been disappointed.
I like the Greek cuisine at The Pier House, however the service is lacking and new menu items are not properly thought out. When we first arrived at the restaurant, a lovely hostess took my name for my reservation and we waited among other diners. Then a blonde female employee proceeded to enter the hostess area and bark orders in a manner that should not be displayed from front of the house employees. She acted as if the restaurant was over capacity and seemed to be stressing out the other hostesses, while there were at least 4 empty tables and 4 couples standing, waiting to be seated.
Once we were seated, service was just okay, our waitress seemed to be preoccupied by other tables. Dinner was very good, minus the feta and watermelon salad - tasteless, could use balsamic. Greek chicken dinner was excellent and flavorful as was calamari appetizer with a trio of sauces. I would come back but I advise the restaurant to invest some time in customer service training.
The food was excellent but it's extremely noisy and hard to carry on a conversation. Service was average. Some waiters are better than others as ours couldn't make any suggestions on the wine and unlike the waiter for the table next to us didn't go into much depth explaining the specials. We had wanted to eat outside to avoid all the noise but the table they gave us was next to the parking garage next door so we ate inside. The hostess was very disorganized as she seemed to be assigning tables on the fly which probably explains why they didn't reconfirm the reservation ahead of time like other restaurants.
We had breakfast and dinner at the Pier House and enjoyed our meals each time we were there. The food is fresh, the recipes are inventive and absolutely delicious...and we are hard to please! Definitely will place Pier House on our favorites list so we can return during our next visit!
Found this place randomly last year, so decided to come back for our anniversary this year. Nice quiet dining room on one side or outdoor seating on the other. Food was on point, great service and they gave us free champagne for our anniversary. We will be back.
As usual each year my wife and I drive 70 miles one way to have dinner at the Pier House. We enjoy this restaurant very much and have recommende it others who have also enjoyed it the only thing about it is that it is extremely noisy which forbids casual conversatio.
We dine every year with you guys. Food was great. I have to rate the service (waitress) as poor. The problem is we paid our bill with cash and she never returned with our change. We always leave 20% plus if the service is good. We were going to leave most of the change due back but never had that opportunity. The waitress should always return the change no matter how close the amount left is to the 20% expected tip. We did wait 10+ min for her to return. It's not about the $5. It's about the principle. Some people need to be taught that when they are recruited.
If you like a nice view of the ocean with delicious food this is the place for you!! The Cape May Cosmo was sweet and cold. I had the Caesar salad which was fresh and tossed perfectly. The crab cakes are to die for. They had big lumps of crab meat with a nice outside crunch. My daughter had the popcorn chicken that comes in a popcorn box! Popcorn surrounds the chicken fresh and warm. I will definitely be back!
The food is delicious and prepared perfectly. I had swordfish topped with crab and it was outstanding. The service is pretty good. Hostesses nice and our server was great. Ambiance is okay--not what you would expect for the prices. Lots of families with young kids. High booths against the wall remind me of a Mexican restaurant with white tablecloths. Come here for the food--some of the best is Cape May--but don't expect a romantic experience.
This is my favorite restaurant at the shore and I have been to them all. The Pier House never disappoints. Their food is delicious and consistently excellent. My fav is the watermelon and feta salad, calamari, and macho tuna. Same for the service. I love dining on the outdoor patio.
Made OpenTable reservation March/April, request for a quiet table not near server station/restrooms, reservation for July, arrived and escorted to booth in far corner with no view other than a wall, requested to be moved, moved to booth in same location but on othe side on room next to window, a little better but not great. Server made a great impression - then she disappeared! Waited and waited for food.!??? Food finally arrived but nothing to rave about! Dinner experience not enjoyed! Why go back? No one was happy.
Service was wonderful. Stayed at a joining hotel so had breakfast and lunch there daily. Everything was great. On our last night had dinner it was incredibly delicious. One of the few restaurants in Cape May that's not BYOB. We loved our server Taylor, great recommendations.
We went as a fairly large group. Recommend making a reservation. The hostess seated us promptly. It was much louder inside the restaurant this visit in comparison to our last visit a year ago. It was hard for people to hear each other. Food was excellent although service was at times spotty. We requested some ketchup for the children's meals when it was ordered but had to ask twice after the food was already served. Fortunately the food was still warm by the time the ketchup arrived. Otherwise service was okay. Still a nice place to go for dinner.
Love Love Love this place!! My favorite in Cape May!! The food is consistently delicious, service impeccable and the ambiance is beautiful. Its one of the best places to eat in Cape May. It is a bit noisy if you eat inside so be prepared (noisy especially on weekends). They have a full and interesting bar menu. The prices are very fair, portions generous and beautiful presentation of food........ you will love it too!! Try the seafood "martini" appetizer, the calamari, the watermelon salad and the crab cakes..... you won'e be disappointed!
Dinner for my wife and myself at The Pier House was satisfying, if not exceptional. We made an early reservation and arrived at about 5:15. We were seated quickly. We did ask to sit in a window seat, but were told those booths were reserved. They may very well have been, but no one sat in either of the booths we requested the entire time our meal lasted.
That said, the booth we were assigned was fine. The seating, in general, was pleasant. The bar is in a separate room from the main dining area and the passage from the kitchen and the restrooms moved through there--so there isn't really a bad seat in the house.
My wife ordered lamb "lollipop" chops and salmon while I ordered a steak and deep-fried lobster tail. I asked about the lobster tail, as I'd never had one fried before, and my server wasn't really able to describe what showed up. It turned out to be something like a lightly-battered tempura. It was a nice change of pace, though it could've used some sort of dipping sauce.
Our server slipped up in a few other areas. She was decent enough, but not terribly polite, and didn't seem to know a lot about the menu. In addition to not being able to describe the lobsters, she definitely didn't have a grasp on steak doneness. She said "medium" meant a red, pink center--so that's what I ordered. I received a steak I would describe as medium-well or even well done. Still, it tasted fine, but it is something to watch.
That, actually, sums up our experience. Everything at the Pier House was fine, but not exceptional. My wife enjoyed her lamb, but the salmon was a bit bland. I would not dissuade someone from going here, but I wouldn't make a point of recommending it, either.
The food is always wonderful , tasty and perfectly seasoned. The hostess who was loud and rude was not prepared to give us our table that we requested when we made reservations , so we opted for the bar. Our bartender , sensing a problem, and recognizing us from last season , immediately diffused the situation and bought us s drink . We stayed for dinner and enjoyed the watermelon and feta salad and crab cakes as an entree. The Greek white wine that the bartender recommended was perfect ! We stay at the LaMer hotel and also enjoy breakfast at the Pier House.
