The Pier House
We never got there we recived a phone call that something happened and they canceled our dinner maybe next time
Excellent service, food was delicious. Great wine selections. Overall a great dinner and we will be back!
In prior years the food was amazing. On this visit we found the dining room to be quite loud. The lamb shank was over done and dry. The rice was abundant but flavorless. My Mom also had the lamb Shank and didn’t care for it even though that is her favorite meal. My husband had the Tuna which he said was good but not done to medium as ordered. The waitress has to re-fill your waters so you wait for refills for quite sometime. Martinis were good.
Always a favorite!! Great food and great service! Natalia is the best waitress!
This was our first time. Food was very good. Our server Svetlana was excellent. We had an 8:30 reservation and didn't get seated until almost 9:00 - forgivable on a Sat night in peak summer season but still not okay. I had the lollipop lamb chops and the veal T-bone which were excellent. My wife had the greek salad (plenty to share for two) and the crab cakes. The crab cakes were huge and she brought a full one home. Wine list was dissapointing. They had a poor selection of low end bottles and seemed to push you into the $45-$55 bottle price range. With so many great BYOB restaurants in Cape May, it was definitely a turn off. We dined often at Mythos with the same quality food but bringing our own wine made the dinner out for 2 to be just over $100, versus $160 here. And the noise level was very bad for any hopes of an intimate dining experience.
Had a 8 pm reservation did not get seated till 830pm....server did not known he has our table ...did.not get waited on till 845
We arrived at 7:55 for an 8:00 pm reservation. The place was packed crawling with people. We were told by the hostess that they have to seat other reservations first that came in before us. Ok, fine we understood and went to the bar. We sat at the corner of the bar closest to the hostess station. As we stood there people were coming in with no reservation. They were told an hour wait. I took it upon myself ti check out the dining room. At 8 pm there were 5 tables set and empty. The table we eventually sat at was empty at 8 pm. At 8:15 i went back in the dinning room and now there were 6 tables set but empty including our table. Now its 8:30 and after several drinks at the bar we are still not seated. From 8 to 8:30 no one came to us to tell us our table was ready, NOT ONCE! So I approached the hostess and asked what was going on. She said whats your name. I gave it and she said we have been calling you for a while and you have not answered. I was livid. We were right there at the corner of the bar closest to the hostess and she and here assistant NEVER approached us with our name. I was approached by diner who heard my complaint snd he shared some service issues with me that he encountered. For their screw up she never apologized or offered us a comp desert.
Don’t get me wrong, the Food is always good here and our waitress who knew about the screw up was very pleasant with great service. The big question is why were there 5-6 tables empty during that 35 minute time frame? Not enough help? Kitchen on a break? Mind boggling!
Because of this screw up and especially because of no apology we won’t be gong back anytime soon.
The lights are too bright for dinner!
Food was wonderful
We very much enjoyed our dinner.
Lovely setting but mediocre food. My ‘Greek’ shrimp did not have a lot of flavor and the shrimp were tough-how is that even possible? My husband had salmon that was ‘meh’.
My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves at the Pier House. Great bar and drinks, lil pricey but great overall. Food and presentation was FANTASTIC! The Filet cut like butter and the Veal T-bone was Amazing!! Our server was Great and took the time to inform us about certain dishes we had questions on The ambiance was ok. Big open room, bright and loud, not romantic. Overall, Would definitely recommend.
Great vacation stop with family and friends!
Have been coming to Pier House for years. Patiently waited for renovations. Food is still great but do not like the new version of potato and crab soup- very fishy. Corn ok but not the peppered fish. No potato taste.
Flash fried flounder is still "to die" for!
I was hoping to write a better review after Being referred here by a local. Drinks were good.
Everything and everyone was perfect.
The food was phenomenal. We cannot stop raving about every bite we took.
Birthday dinner for family member. Was so happy to see Natali. She was our server many times at the original Pier House. So happy that she is still with you!!
We live in CM and became great fans on Methoes, so we decided to try the new location. The food was excellent as usual and enjoyed by everyone in our party. The prices have increased. The noise level in the restaurant was disturbing and made it very difficult to talk. Also the air conditioning was strong and blowing directly on us.
I ordered a Tito’s martini and when poured into the glass, the glass was barely half full. And this was with 3 olives in the glass. If you are going to charge $15 for a martini, you need to do better. The wine pours were quite good.
We will return for appys at the bar because the overall restaurant experience was lacking.
Not as good as before-- food was very good but atmosphere outside was not good- kids chasing and feeding Seagulls- feels more like an unimaginative cafeteria than a fine restaurant... I was very disappointed because it used to be my favorite restaurant in Cape May
Service was so so and overall the energy and attitude of staff seemed low
Everything was great - except the noise level. We had a difficult time hearing each other. A first class restaurant should be quieter. Sound engineers can solve this.
I'll start off by saying the food is always delicious. We used to come here often prior to renovations. We've come twice post-renovations and the service has been absolutely terrible. Two of us came in on Saturday and were there for over 2 hours. Every step of the meal took forever. We saw the wait staff come in and out of the kitchen several times to check on their tables, but our server was no where to be found. We came in 3 weeks ago and ran into the same issue, but just assumed it was because they had only been open for a week. We'll be taking a break from this restaurant for quite some time - hopefully when we come back the kinks will be ironed out with the wait staff because the food was delicious, but not worth waiting 2+ hours.
This restaurant is now very expensive, my husband ordered the petite fillet and it was tough. The manager did offer a glass of wine but our dinner was over so we declined. She could have offered dessert in stead but did not. One of my friends ordered the lobster tail. $48 bucks for a 6 ounce tail. That is ridiculous! My salmon was delicious. The desserts were great as well. Love the creme brûlée pie! There are some reasonable wine by the bottle choices. Which is refreshing. Have always loved going to Pier House in the past but we were disappointed this evening.
So glad the Pier House has returned! Same great food and service !
We are locals and we're looking forward to a new restaurant for our Saturday date nights , but unfortunately this won't be one of our future choices. We were disappointed in the size of the oysters and found the pork dinner to be extremely salty . We also found it odd that the pork tbone was the only dinner that was served with potatoes and all the rest were some form of rice . A broader choice is advisable .
Excellent service, spectacular food and elegant ambiance
The Pier House re-opened after a long renovation and I am glad I went back to eat there. The bar and dining room look sleek. Tables are spaced apart nicely.
The crab cake had a crusty top which was very pleasant. The salmon was as good as always. We both got the watermelon salad which probably should have been shared - but we finished every last bit.
Yes - I will be sure to get back there soon!
My wife and I went out for our date night on our vacation here and really enjoyed it. The food and service was phenomenal. However, place was a little loud for us.
Atmosphere is nice, food is average, service is very good. I would definitely skip the tempura lobster, it’s very disappointing. Should be served with Asian inspired sides & sauce, not mashed potatoes & a mayo based sauce. The shot of champagne it’s served with is absurd too. Kids filet Mignon had a pepper crust, I’ve never met a child who enjoys pepper. Next time I’m in Cape May, I will skip this restaurant.
So happy they are opened again. Love the food. We will be back.
The food was absolutely phenomenal and there are a lot of gluten-free and healthy choices. The restaurant is newly reopened after major renovations and looks beautiful. In spite of having a reservation through open table, we had to wait a long time for a table, which was annoying because I pushed everyone in our party to be on time so that I would not get a bad rating. The restaurant, in spite of renovations, still has terrible acoustics and is extremely noisy. This was not helped by the presence of many children. While some were quite well behaved, there was one particular table nearby until 9:30 pm that had a screeching toddler. Perhaps there’s not much that the restaurant could do, but it did ruin our dining experience and perhaps better acoustics in the restaurant would have helped. Nevertheless, we will definitely go back with small groups 6 and under because the food is phenomenal and we can walk there easily.
fine dinner- only flaw was staff (hostess) was NOT accommodating at all!!! Arrived at 5:15 pm for a 6pm reservation, restaurant was almost empty and we were being taken to a table in the middle of the dining room. I asked if we could have a window table (they ,all6 of them) were empty and the person seating us said she would ask the hostess, who said No, they were all being reserved for 6pm or later, had I been asked while making the reservation,I would have asked for one.You have to realize this restaurant bills itself as oceanfront. Anyway I approached the hostess myself and was also politely told they were being saved, at 6:30 two of the tables at the windows were still empty I thought that was a real turn off for such a high end restaurant. I hope this feedback changes the way patrons are treated in the future
Everything was so good we came back a 2nd time in 3 days. They don’t disappoint
We started with cocktails. Everyone had Caesar salad. It’s the best in Cape May. The bread and olive spread is delicious. lollipop lamb chops were a perfect medium. Entrees included the Dirty Strip Steak done rare as requested, salmon with crab meat and wild shrimp with rice pilaf. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their selections. Cappuccino to finish. There was no room for dessert. Welcome back Pier House. We missed you!
Very disappointed with the new space. The bar area works better after the renovations. The dining area has the feel of a noisy hotel cafeteria. We couldn’t enjoy the food, that I must say was good, for leaning into the table to hear our conversation and not everyone around us.
This was our first time at the
Pier House did not disappoint us - we enjoyed the convenience, the venue, and the menu. Service and dinners were excellent. Staff was very accommodating and we will return.
We couldn’t wait for the Pier House to reopen. Was disappointed that the Chilean sea bass wasn’t back on the menu. Otherwise everything was delicious just alittle pricey for what you get.
So happy the Pier House is back after being closed for renovations. Food was superb.
Everything was very good....But we have been coming
to the Pier House a long time.... and ALWAYS ordered
the Calamari app.... couldn’t wait to be back to
have that....soo disappointed... calamari very small and
didn’t have the golden fried coating... they will know
exactly what I refer to!
The Pier House was our go to restaurant for many years. Now that it has reopened, the prices have increased significantly and the quality of food has decreased. We will be patronizing and recommending other restaurants in the future.
Great place! We enjoyed our 18th anniversary with wonderful food and great service!
