Don’t be fooled into thinking The Pessimist was born out of negativity. Far from it. A pessimist after all is just an optimist with experience. So, you see, there really couldn’t be a more fitting name for The Optimist’s big brother, and the second bar to come from owners and distinguished hosts, Jo and Paul.

Amazing! I absolutely love going here. It is my fav place to go for a drink. Fantastic range of gins and wines, brilliant staff with excellent knowledge. Highly recommended!

Paul and Jo are the perfect hosts. They know their stuff and always recommend the best drinks. Great ambiance and we were very well looked after as usual. Thank you!

Service was second to none and the whole experience was one I will remember. Food was excellent definitely worth 5 stars. Paul’s knowledge on the Gin and Rum available was amazing. Will certainly try to come back when next in Lincoln.

The greeting was warm and friendly. Our table was awaiting us. We were served a bottle of cold water on seating. We were given plenty of time to peruse the food menu and the very extensive Gin menu. When our order for food and drink was taken, the waitress was chatty and knowledgeable . The food was delicious and beautifully presented (we had a sharing platter) if I was to be uber picky, I would say that a few fresh cherry tomatoes/ cucumber/ lettuce leaves, would have enhanced the enjoyment of the food by helping to cut through the richness of our choices. Overall a very comfortable and elegant eatery.

Did not eat , but the food we can’t wait to try, Host’s and staff knowledgeable and helpful when recommending drinks. Lovely atmosphere and will be visiting again 😊

We dined here on the 21st August. Lovely atmosphere and decor, plenty of space and room to eat and drink. Wine selection was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome. Food choice is slightly limited but what we had was excellent. .We would all return again..

We didn’t eat here but had drinks in the courtyard and in the gin bar. Friendly place with a huge selection of gin, rum, and wines.
