   We went to The Perennial for the fourth time last Saturday. We have always enjoyed the original and imaginitive dishes they serve, we know what the prices are and have happily paid them because the food and service were excellent in the past. In the past. Saturday the second of our three courses showed up an hour and forty minutes after we ordered and just twenty minutes before our curtain time, which we had informed the waiter of immediately. We paid $300 for a meal we had to gobble down in less than ten minutes so that we could run to the theater. Oh, and the main plate servings were much smaller this time. The steak and mushrooms was priced at $30 and included three slices approximately 2.5” x1.5” x0.5”. I estimated the total weight at 1.5 -2 oz.

   This is our second time eating at Perenial and it is still an outstanding meal. The three and four course offerings can be shared so that your party can get a wide variety of tastes and samplings. The wait staff is knowledgable regarding the menue and the wine list. Our waiter (who we rememebered from last time) was attentive and recommended a really nice bottle of wine. The food and service are both great and the venue is perfect and well styled. We ahve enjoyed each dinner we have had ate Perenial.

   The food lacked any meaningful flavor (I ordered the 4 oz beef entrée and the crispy rice) and the portions were incredibly small (in fact, everything was small, the wine pours, the cocktails and the entrees!) ...the bread, however, was delicious, fortunately they brought plenty of that...otherwise I think we would have starved. I can honestly say we left hungrier than when we arrived! Four star prices, two star flavor with two star portions...we were greatly disappointed.

   Very eco friendly restaurant. Delicious cuisine. The steak was perfect as was the cabbage. Excellent friendly service. A nice place to go for a special occasion.

   Innovative food and drinks. Few places achieve set menus with such variety of local ingredients. But you can order a la cart too. Good for vegans, GFs and foodies. Worth a special trip; I’ll go back to explore new dishes.

    I just love this place. My friend and I had a beautiful vegetarian dinner and shared all our dishes including dessert. We left stuffed and very happy. The flavors are unique and inspiring, especially those of the apple and squash soup!

    We went for our Anniversary. We were treated with excellent service and the meal was incredible. We love going to the Perrenial everytime we get the chance.

    We attended the Commonwealth Club presentation on climate change and heard from two restauranteurs - one being The Perennial. We were quite impressed with what they are doing for our environment and made a reservation for our upcoming opera night. The food was excellent! Wonderful combinations and adequate but not overwhelming portion sizes. The timing was just right leaving us plenty to walk to the Opera House. A wonderful find! Give them a try.

    Overall, we had a really great experience here. The cocktails were delicious and strong, and the waiter's recommendations were excellent. Awesome, attentive service the whole time! The food was all hot and perfectly cooked. The presentation was beautiful! The dessert (whipped tallow cream with lemon) was INCREDIBLE! Probably the highlight of the meal, which I feel is rare at restaurants. However, my date and I agreed that although the food was delicious, it was also very salty. We were parched when we got home! 4 drinks and the 3 course meal for 2 plus tip came out to just over $200, so pricey, but good for a nice date in SF!

    Overall, this was a pretty solid experience with good food. The only major hiccup was having to send the beef entree back to the kitchen because it was so undercooked no amount of chewing would digest the bites enough to swallow. Actually a shocking circumstance considering how delicious the first courses were. After returning the dish for a new (supposedly more cooked) version it was only slightly less chewy and still couldn’t swallow multiple bites. All that said, the drinks were delicious (highly recommend ‘Sea and Smoke’ and ‘Broken Spanish’) and we would go back again (and just not get the beef entree :)

    Portions were small. Dishes were creative and beautifully plated but flavor seems to be lacking. They offered a prix fixed menu of three or four courses. We each chose the four courses plus the bread appetizer which cost $17 but still left hungry. I like the location since we were going to a show at the Orpheum. The relaxed contemporary setting and drink selection was nice.

    The restaurant is good-looking in a Scandinavian modern way and the food is mostly inventive and delicious aside from the Bizzarre peaches and potatoes dessert. We thought it was too expensive.

    I rarely write reviews. I am doing so now because I want this restaurant to succeed, which is currently is not. The concept of sustainability is excellent and taken seriously. The space is warm and classy and beautiful. The food is solid. The service was awful. Our server disappeared for long periods of time. I made a friendly quip about how he had disappeared for such a long time; he did not apologize, but said that he had a team helping us. I did not see them either. The food took ages to prepare. Poached chicken and grilled vegetables do not take half an hour. (Side note: you don't offer vegetables as an entree unless you're offering a truly excellent preparation, which it was not.) And the portions are tiny. Sorry to have to write this. I hope the owners read this.

    Overall it was the service that turned us off. We were asked twice about if we had a show to go to but never if there was any allergies. No one checked in on the courses to see if they were okay. One item ordered never received. We were offered the bread complimentary because we ordeeed 6 items and did not want the pri fix but then got charged. No offer of a second drink until the last course. They bread tho was amazing

    First time dining here and everything was amazing from presentation and plating to execution of complimentary flavors did the 4 course option and our server was wonderful and informative, this place has every reason to be pretentious but it is the exact opposite will definitely be back

    After theater (matinee), late afternoon dinner. We arrived slightly before the food service opened and the staff made us comfortable in the bar area where we ordered very delicious cocktail mixtures. I'm very "old school" when it comes to drinks that I like (Manhattans, martinis, bourbon/water etc.) but the menu descriptions so intrigued me that I surprised the rest of my party by ordering a Perennial special cocktail. The drink was delicious! I am now a member of the 21st century! At the dinner table the service was quite good. For tables of more than a couple of people there is a novel way to order dishes so that everyone can share. I'm still not sure that I understand it but the bottom line was that the food that came to the table was quite good and the service in delivering the items and explaining the items was exemplary. There were many new ways of preparing the food and the chefs were on top of it. Why, I even tried the way that cauliflower was prepared and I can't stand cauliflower - after eating a piece of the stuff I found that I still don't like cauliflower but that's just me versus cauliflower. Aside from that everything that arrived at table was very tasty. Perennial is not a restaurant that I would have found or tried on my own but for a special occasion or for a stop off for a cocktail it is a place that I would return to.

    My boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday dinner and it was delicious. Food and kitchen was displayed with such class and I recommend the strawberry gazpacho and fresh bread served from the beginning of our dinning experience. I'm looking forward to another visit but next time it'll be drinks.

    I had eaten at Perennial a year ago. Then it was a great experience. Food was interesting and delicious, servers were knowledgeable about what made the place special. The food this time was a big letdown. I had a son and his gf visiting from New Orleans and wanted them to get a great dining experience. Food was mediocre at best. We are vegetarians and enjoy great food. Will never go there again. For the price I expected flavorful interesting food, and would have been happy to pay the cost. Most of what we had was bland and uninteresting. Big disappointment.
