The Penthouse Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The food was over priced for the quality. The noise level was deafening and I will not go here again for a meal. I think the acoustics are poor. Service was slow even though we were there for a late lunch. Would not recommend for a special occasion. $25 for yellow tune poke bowl?????
Alway beautiful atmosphere and great food. Service was a bit slow and took about an hour to get a couple of salads. For a small group get together we did not mind, because we were catching up. But for a business lunch or if you don't have a lot of time, might reconsider this location.
Always a pleasure dining at The Penthouse. Have been many times for dinner with friends and clients. The view can't be beat and the decor is beautiful. This was my first time for Sunday brunch and certainly won't be my last. Top notch all the way. Thank you!
The views are spectacular from the elevator to the table. Our waitress happened to be the hostess at the time as well...this meant she wasn’t as attentive as could be. But I get it she was pulled. Everyone we encountered was very friendly from the valet to the manager walking about....the food is fresh, tastes amazing and the presentation is wonderful. I would definitely go back!
Main Course did not arrive at same time. Waiter was knowledgeable (ingredients) and professionally nice. Service was slow where it should not have been. Had to ask for bread twice, salt and pepper came a tad too late. Complaining on high level but at items $45 and up, I can expect a level of superior attention to detail. Lots of other places to go to in this city.
The bar and restaurant area are close together. There were a bunch of 13 guys having drinks and they were super loud. None of the restaurant staff seemed to care. You go there for the view. The food is ok but for what you are getting, it is too expensive. Our waiter was very attentive though.
The Penthouse served our purpose to take out-of-town visitors to a place that had unusual appeal (in this case, the view). Unfortunately, it was foggy, but our guests appreciated the idea and were pleased. Also the booths are good for conversation which was important in this case.
This place gets an A+ from me. The Penthouse at the Huntley is my go-to place for breakfast/brunch. Everything is fabulous. The coffee, the food, the ambiance, the ocean view and the service are all top- notch. The hotel is chic and in one of the best places in Santa Monica. The beach is one block away with loads of shopping and things to do in the surrounding area. You will not need your car but if you have a car great; Because the excellent service starts with a warm welcome from the Valet and as you walk through the stunning lobby the staff will also greet you as you take the elevator up to the highest floor, the penthouse.
We had an absolutely perfect lunch at teh Penthouse with some big foodie friends who were in town from Singapore. EVERYTHING was perfect. Window table with views to Malibu, great, great service and wonderful food all at reasonable prices. You won't find anything better!
We celebrated a family birthday at Penthouse and were awed by its amazing and expansive views of downtown Santa Monica. The pan con tomate, accented with bright persimmon and topped with delicate Iberian ham was divine. We the shared the branzino for two with pan roasted mushrooms and tomatoes, paired with a decadent balsamic honey roasted hazelnut sauce, which was as unique as it was delicious. The staff was very thoughtful and attentive and the experience is one we will not soon forget.
Very slow service, we order the avocado toast to come up first and everything just came at once. I tried to order a glass of prosecco and the waiter brought a Mimosa. I asked him if it was right and he said, “yes this is the Prosecco that is on the menu“ then he came back a few minutes later and admitted he made a mistake.Overall the service was very slow, they didn’t clear our dishes, drinks took forever to come to the table. Very disappointed in the service for such a nice place.
While the food, service (at least in delivering the food and attending to the table) and ambiance are excellent, my party of four were given the list of specials for the night without the waiter telling us the prices. While most dishes on the menu were in the $30 - $50 range (pricey but actually worth it), I assumed the specials would be in the same range or slightly higher. So specials-wise, my wife ordered the Lagoustinos ($69) and my friend ordered the porterhouse ($110 !!!!). I picked up the check and YES, when you assume... so shame on me. But would it be so hard to tell your guests the prices of the specials??? I didn't want to look like a tightwad, so I didn't say anything (again, shame on me). What I was expecting to be a $300-ish bill came to $491. I really like the place and lesson learned, but I can not in good conscience recommend the place when this is the way they conduct business.
I went for brunch on Saturday. I've been a couple times. Great ambience, light, bright, lots of windows and great views. I had the short rib hash which I usually get. It's amazing! As usual, the service is very slow, and hard to find servers for long stretches of time.
