The Penthouse at Mastro's, Beverly Hills Ratings and Reviews
Food and service is excellent except the occasional wait time to be seated. Had a reservations for my birthday- 930pm for group of 8. We were not seated till 1145 pm and by the time we ordered and actually got to eat... was 1230 am! Wtf
By then everyone was tired and wanted to go home. I know it was Saturday... one of their busiest days of the wk... but to wait over 2hrs... I don’t care if their steaks are made out of gold! 2 hrs waiting and drinking and drinking... to be seated! Not a good look... not sure if I want to spend my food money for that wait time
I’ve been to this location multiple times and enjoyed my experience every time, unfortunately, I can’t say that about my last experience. I ordered my Ribeye steak Med Rare but it came more rare than anything else. By the time the server came around to ask how my meal was, the steak had gotten cold and lost my appetite. Other than that, it was an amazing evening.
Very dissapointed. Was there for a 70th Birthday. Got seated 1hr late. Steak (double porterhouse) did not arrive at table until 15 min after aides arrived. When It came had to return steak because it was undercooked (literally raw). Wine didn’t arrive at table until 45 min after ordering. I come here for business dinners every month. Never been more upset especially when it’s such a special occasion.
Had outstanding experience with our server. The food was sensational (as always). My wife and i had a delicious anniversary meal. Thank you for the complimentary dessert. Very memorable.
My only complaint was the table we were given. It was a tiny table that was seemingly jammed in a spot that probably should be kept as a walkway. The table was literally good for one person, let alone two. It really kept us from ordering more food/ drink. Just my two cents. Otherwise the service and food were what we have come to enjoy at Mastro's for years.
This was my first time at Mastro's and I was very impressed. The food was to die for. In had the crab cakes to start. Porterhouse steak Brussels sprouts with steak bacon mashed potatoes and to top it off the butter cake. ALL AMAZING. And a great shout out to our server Amanda so sweet she made us feel special.
Always an amazing meal at Mastros! It's perfect for special occasion as well - just celebrated a birthday meal for 7 people and the staff made sure everyone in our party had a memorable time. They set up champagne before we got to the restaurant and had a birthday dessert as well.
Disappointed. Been going regularly and loved it until this time. Seemed very generic. Penthouse environment, lighting and set up felt like a cafeteria. The restaurant below also felt rundown and dirty and with grime.
The food did not live up to the expectations. Lobster tails were tiny and made my wife sick. My Bone-in Rib Eye Chop Cut was difficult to eat with a lot of cartilage on the meat.
Not planning to return.
Terrific service, very nice ambiance except that the window to the street was blocked by their wine rack. Noise level too high for comfortable conversation. Food was all terrific except for the gorganzola mac and cheese, which was over cooked. Make great cocktails.
Overall it was good. This is my fourth time coming to Mastro's in Beverly Hills, second time to the Penthouse. My husband and I felt the food was average and not to the standard we had the last two occasions we came. So all in all, we were disappointed because for the longest time Mastro's was our benchmark of what is a "worth the cost" restaurant. After this last visit, my opinion has changed and Iwill need to discover a new "special occasion" restaurant.
Usually this is my favorite restaurant but tonight we had horrible service!! The waitress never checked up on us and we waited 15 minutes to order only after we asked her to order after she passed by us several times. Then she acted like we bothered her. She never asked if we wanted refills. I would’ve ordered 2 more cocktails had she even came to our table. We were seating at the high tops and her section was small but she kept ignoring us. The table next to us was annoyed as well. We waited so long for her that the butter for my lobster froze.
We decided to have Christmas dinner out. Oysters Rockefeller were plentiful and cooked perfectly. The Ny Strip steak and the NY Strip Peppered steak were perfect and flavorful. We opted for the brussell sprouts for the side. They were big and sweet. We ended up with leftovers of meat and veggies. Our server Jude was friendly and attentive but not obtrusive. I will definitely return.
I want to give this restaurant a bit of a pass because every restaurant gets a bit overwhelmed during the holidays.
The hostesses gracefully welcomed us and steered us to the top floor. We were promptly showed to our seats.
We were greeted by our waiter and drink orders put in.
There was a long wait for both appetizer and dinner courses, again they were understandably busy.
The food was good, especially the lobster mashed potatoes, but not the amazing meal I had expected.
The place had nice ambience, but the background music seems to overwhelm conversation at several points during the evening.
Am I glad I dined here ? Yes
I would explore other options before returning though.
Definitely not what I expected. Extremely busy, extremely crowded, I was hoping for more of an intimate experience and definitely got a loud happy hour experience. We sat upstairs and my chair was CONSTANTLY bumped by waitress & food runners. The food was decent, the service from our waitress was great. Will I dine again? Maybe as a happy hour situation but definitely not as an intimate date night.
We went for my birthday and end up having a few more in our party then planned. It took a little but they were able to get all of us together and for that I am so grateful for. The food was amazing!!! I had the twin lobster tail and asparagus my boyfriend had the steak and lobster mashed potatoes and it was well worth it. Cant wait to find another reason to go but will definitely do better on our party size because they were packed. Our waitress was a little slow but I blame her for that not the business as a whole. Besides that if your reading this just go already you wont be disappointed.
Mastro's never disappoints! I go every year for with my best friend for our annual Christmas dinner and to celebrate our 30 plus years of friendship! The penthouse is so much fun, with a great DJ and wonderful servers.
I highly recommend going if you want amazing high-end quality food!
I'll start by saying that the food was great. I made an error in not knowing that The Penthouse and the regular Mastro's in BH were considered different in the reservations system. The Penthouse is a great, fun atmosphere but not great if you want to talk to the group at your table. If you want a loud, party evening that includes tasty food, this is your place. If not, get a reservation downstairs. Still an overall good experience.
We were very disappointed with this restaurant as it had been recommended. The food was only so so and the service was lacking. Just sadly not what we expected....the experience did not live up the the Mastro name.
Extremely noisy in the Penthouse, maybe it's more sane down below....we won't be back so will never know.
