Temporarily on summer break. See you in the fall.

The Penney is Executive Chef Jon Butler's casually impeccable showcase for his ingredient-driven, seasonal, Californian menu. While the dishes change frequently due to the seasonal nature of our menu, the concept remains a dichotomy of classic vs. adventurous dishes always sourced as locally as possible.

The Penney & Parlour is recently redesigned and features a vast rare spirits library, sunken horseshoe bar and indoor/outdoor dining room with spectacular sunset views overlooking our sparkling lakes and mountain ranges.

Just steps away, you'll find Parlour. This music lounge and game room with its own bar and light bites menu inspires glamour and mischief. Come here to pre-game, or stay here to play.

The asparagus was flooded with vinegar. The trout was covered with a spicy hoisin sauce that masked all other flavors. It could have been put on a piece of paper and made no difference. The wait staff was inexperienced and either over or under attentive. The view was lovely. Too bad. I will never go back. Yuck and double yuck.

The food continues to be excellent, the scallops Rockefeller was delicious. We ate at the bar and the staff was great to talk with and took great care of us as well. Sorry they'll be closing for the summer but looking forward to their re-opening.

For my mothers’ day treat we went to The Penny +Parlor. I absolutely adore chef Jon Butler. He is a gift to the desert. Fearless about his ingredient marriages— you might run into bonita and Brussels sprouts bathing in miso mayonnaise— and die from the sheer pleasure. As for the service— it’s such a treat to have classically trained people. Old school. Love - Love - Love. Oh and the Sunday prix fixe is dependent on local offerings and just so creative. And reasonable. Great cocktails.

Awesome experiential restaurant and lounge! The decor is retro in a modern way. Crafted cocktails and very friendly wait staff make this a must stop. Unfortunately, the lounge was closed but we took a peak and it looks like a place you want to stay for hours in. We were introduced to Miguel by a couple of his out of town friends and he seems very down to earth and eager to please his guest customers . We will be back

We came in for their Sunday soirée price fixed $50 menu. The service is impeccable, the ambience is beautiful, but the food could use some advice. Salt overload! I loved the soup, but the cassoulet was overwhelmingly salty. Beautifully presented and without the salt the flavor was fantastic. The other guests with me enjoyed their meals but said too much salt! I would recommend this restaurant regardless of the salt issue. The food is good. The service is perfect and the ambience is breathtaking.

Extremely disappointing! We drove to Rancho Mirage for what we thought would be a special experience and were super disappointed. In general, the food was so-so and specifically, the grilled artichoke dish was inedible and never should have left the kitchen. The head chef was off that night so maybe the kitchen staff was overwhelmed and/or untrained, but there’s no excuse for sending out food that you’d never serve your own family - and then expect guests to actually eat it and pay for it. The manager did the right thing by comping that item and then our very nice server told us that the item had been removed from the menu for the rest of the night. The interior of The Penney is pretty but tired, and the rest of the building looks totally run down and depressing. The bathroom was dirty. The staff was very nice and welcoming, but couldn’t make up for the fact that whoever is running the show is really falling short of the tasks at hand.

I went to Republique in LA many times and loved it. I thought this restaurant might be a find because of the same chef. Sadly the food was average. The best thing was the lemon drop and the bread. The setting is stunning.

Went as part of our stay on Palm Springs for my husband’s 50th birthday. The food was very, very good and service was en pointe. We had a long day so we didn’t make it to the Parlour but will save that for next time. Great outdoor views of the backdrop during sunset. Their scallops are a MUST! I’ve never had them prepared the way the Penney made them. Let’s leave it at that and for others to explore. ;)

I'm a very big fan of the Penney, I've taken friends, family and recommend it to everyone. Unfortunately, my experience Saturday night was shockingly poor. Where was the service? What was the problem? We were a party of 8 with a reservation at 7:15. We ordered cocktails, ordered appetizers, they arrived in fairly good time. Another round of drinks ordered. We ordered entrees, at 8:30 we were waiting for our food to be served. No word from our server that there was a delay, barely a look from our server until we brought to his attention that we had been waiting for our food for nearly an hour. Meanwhile, the table seated next to us, which had a later seating, received their drinks and food in rapid speed. About 15 minutes later dinner arrived, food was well prepared and delicious. Now another long pause before we get any attention from our server. In fact, He didn't approach our table, one of the bus staff came over to ask if we wanted dessert. No, no dessert, just the bill. Another forever wait for the bill. We had to ask, again, for the bill...maybe dinner was free since the service was so appalling? Poor communication, no attention to requests. Wow, what happened? How about a heads up that the kitchen is backed up or that server staff was short that evening? How about doing something to restore confidence in the restaurant and its service? I was embarrassed that I took 7 friends and family to The Penney and apologized to them for the unfortunate experience. We all left with a very poor impression of the restaurant and it put quite a damper on the evening.

Love this place. My only comment regarding service would be, please be patient when clearing plates. We are sharing and someone will finish what's left. We had to say, "no, we are not finished" many times over. You'll know when the plate is empty or we've pushed it aside. Otherwise, it was a nice, new, different desert experience.

Started out with VERY slow service, many hungry mosquitos as we were outside by the lake, waiter was very nice, wait wait wait, wine bottle not cold enough, had to ask for ice, wait, wait,, wait...first courses absolutely amazing, off the charts good, innovative and delicious ....wait wait wait wait, wine not cold enough again had to wait while they chilled it wait, wait wait aha, it appeared there was only two waiters for the entire restaurant. ..... My main course was OK, sauce a tad salty and it was the complaint of all others that the food (sauces) were WAY over salted. Waiter was very apologetic and claimed a number of people had the same complaint, they took a few dished off the check and delivered a free desert. Sunset views amazing but a spritz of OFF before you go is definitely recommended. I would try it again, maybe not on a Saturday night during Coachella!!

Was excited to try this new restaurant for a birthday dinner. Very uneven overall. Service was adequate and friendly. Atmosphere was loud. A drunk woman at another table was super annoying, but she finally left. The bread appetizer was fantastic, the hamachi crudo was not. The brussel sprout salad was also a disappointment. They were not fully cooked and impossible to cut with the provided knives. The main courses also uneven. My steak and fries were good, although fries were from sysco. The Cod was overly salty. I had informed the restaurant that this was a birthday dinner, but there was not a mention of it, and well enough…we were ready to leave.

Chef Jon Butlers's Easter three-course meal was one for the books! Best meal we have had in a long time. Genius use of seasonal vegetables...each dish elevated the ingredients in unique and delicious ways. The sable fish was so delicate and felt like butter...amazing. The pistachio and dark chocolate tarts were out of this world.

We were excited to try The Penny & Parlour and loved finding a new place in the desert. The setting is great, the decor is pretty well done and the drinks in the Parlour were delicious - and love that there is a pool table. They were very accommodating and got us a great table on the patio. Our server was very nice but for some reason the service was odd - he was loud and rote and disappeared for quite a while. The food - we so wanted to love it and make it our favorite new spot but sadly both the menu and the food are sub-par. The menu is difficult to understand, oddly chosen, weird portions, no sides and the sides appear to actually be the small plates but that was not explained. Weird flavors, small portions, not a lot of choices, badly plated, and not that tasty. Even the oysters were so-so. The mignonette for the oysters was GROSS - full of partially cracked black peppercorns. We couldn't even eat our oysters. Our friend ordered the scallops and her first comment was - "3 small scallops??". The chowder was not chowder - my husband is still scratching his head about that. My chicken was just a few pieces of salty chicken in some sweet lemon sauce on a messy plate - nothing else. I so hope they get their menu and kitchen sorted out and put out tasty, good-looking food.

While the outside of the building looks lonely, they may need to do some festive planters, colorful lights and some vibey music to make it a bit more welcoming . The entrance to the restaurant is a bit wonky, either turn right and head down an unfinished hallway, or straight ahead through a deserted ballroom. Once inside, the restaurant was full and the doors stacked back to a pretty view of the golf course. I like the green sunken bar area for a quick bite of appetizers. I had a lovely Hamachi Crudo, an interesting, roasted Brussel sprout, salad, and then an unusual Matcha tea cake/meringue dessert. The lounge area on the other side of the lobby has a cute chess table and pool table which is fun for pre-dinner get together. It’s nice to have a new spot close to Palm Desert.

Beautiful bar. Excellent food. Very nice views. I always book through Open tables. And a few times I am given a poor table. Am told all others are reserved.
