About The Pelican Club
The Pelican Club is a restaurant serving progressive takes on American cuisine, exploring new ways of combining flavors and fusing culinary cultures from around the world. Ross Warhol, the executive Chef has worked in some of the most renowned and celebrated restaurants from around the world before opening The Pelican Club. His philosophy is to take the various cooking traditions from around the U.S. and blend them into one another to create something entirely new.
Starters include a traditional Creole gumbo, New England clam chowder, snapper crudo and chicken fried green tomatoes. On the entree side, the dishes are just as varied in their flavors with barbecue gulf shrimp, brown sugar glazed salmon, zinfandel braised lamb chops and roasted diver scallops. Save room for dessert, because The Pelican Club serves a Young's Chocolate Stout cheesecake with macerated raspberries and a white chocolate sorbet.

The Pelican Club Ratings and Reviews
Food was good - on the expensive side but we knew that going in. Service was SLOW both in the Bar area and Dining room. Slow Service was mentioned many times on other reviews too. Probably won't go back to Galveston to eat there. Will try somewhere else next time.
Felt like a scene from an old movie set in the 50's or 60's which was also the average age. A great place for an intimate dinner and the bar looks like a great place to hang out for a drink. The gumbo I had was the best gumbo I've had on the island, even better then the Gumbo Bar. My companion had the snapper appetizer which was quite delicious. However both our entrees were a bit disappointing in comparison to the great appetizers. I had the parmesan crusted snapper which was served on a bed of risotto but the Parmesan and risotto over powered the fish which you could barely taste because it couldn't compete with the rich flavors surrounding it. My other half had the lamb which fared better with the beets and kale adding some contrast to the mound of grits, which like the risotto was kind of one note in it's richness. Dessert was consequently out of the question because dinner was too filling. I look forward to trying other items as the menu changes seasonably.
This was our first time to dine at the Pelican Club. The hostess was very pleasant and the atmosphere and décor excellent. The waiter was ok, not very well dressed, shirt was not pressed and appearance dis-shoveled. I had the duck, very good, my wife had the lamb chop. Very dry! Mentioned this to the waiter, he did nothing about it, felt like we were just being blown off. Since it was Christmas Eve, I didn't want to make a scene. Next time I won't be so nice.
I've been in Galveston 11 years now and The Pelican Club is the first restaurant in town I've been to that felt like a dining experience. From the design of the dining room to the service to the menu - all were spectacular. The Pelican Club is excellent and I would gladly return and recommend it to anyone who appreciates great food.
This was our third trip to the new Pelican Club and all have been nice experiences. The lighting and atmosphere is brighter and a little more upscale than the old club. This trip, I had the red snapper on risotto and it was excellent. My wife had the barbeque shrimp and it was a bit salty and slightly overcooked and the bbq sauce had too much worcheshire sauce for our taste. It was OK. The wine list is adequate and service was good. The barbeque shrimp kept me from giving this a 4 star rating.
This was our first time dining at Pelican's Club...we decided to try it out since we saw some reviews on tripadvisor...we have nothing to say but that everything was superb!
My husband ordered the lamb chops and I ordered duck; both were incredible!!! for dessert we had the chocolate cheesecake...it didn't seem like cheesecake though, but the taste was delicious!!
I would only recommend to find a way to minimize the surrounding noise, because we could listen to the other tables' conversations...other than that, incredible restaurant!
I found out about the PC by word of mouth. I wanted to surprise my wife with a nice dinner for our 4 year anniversary. I made reservations through Open Table letting PC know it was an anniversary dinner. We arrived and were met with kind smiles and attentiveness. PC prepared a special table in the back away from the bar with candles, Rose Peddles and a "Happy Anniversary" card that was signed by the entire staff including the owner and Chef. WOW, we were not expecting that. Even our Menue said "Happy Anniversary".
We were assigned a great Waitress named Julie. Thank goodness for her! My wife described what kind of white wine flavor she wanted and Julie suggested the exact match. Very knowledgable. Julie gave us a history on the PC which was great too. We started with an appatizer that was just amazing. It was Red Snapper with avocado mixed with some veggies and chips. Soooo good! It was hard deciding what to get as our meal so Julie came to the rescue. She suggested that I get the Duck and my wife get the red snapper over rice. Oh boy was it good! Never have I ever eaten something with so much flavor. The smaller literally melted in our mouth. I wanted to order a second plate. The service was very fast too. I actually asked Julie to slow down because we just didn't want to leave yet. We ordered a second round of drinks. My wife ordered a Chocolate Martini that was great! The bartender was on point that night. We then ordered some deserts and let me tell you, I dint know how but the chef is able to smoke the ice cream and it's amazing. You've got to visit the Pelican Club soon. I promise it will be a favorite of yours. They make sure that your eating experience is exactly that, an experience. Thank you to the Chef, Julie and everyone at the Pelican Club for making our 4 year anniversary so great. We will be coming back sooner rather than later. And you better believe we will be recommending the Pelican Club to our friends.
Second time to dine and it was an experience as good as the first. Took a guest and they loved it too and will return. Service great, friendly and food excellent.. Will become a regular for us. Still think they need some light live music such as Jazz at the bar..
First I'll start by saying that I'm a foodie and usually hard to impress. That being said I thought the food was very good and very hearty which is to say very filling and not the usual light fare that foodies get accustomed to. The staff was very friendly and the dinning fairly quiet and private. There are unique flavor combinations. Probably the best restaurant in Galveston.
Superb alternative to the crowded tourist fish restaurants in Galveston. Creative menu, good wine selection, delightful personal waitstaff without being intrusive. Reasonable prices for the kind of restaurant this is. Ideal location for dinner before shows at the 1894 Opera or other venues. Will definitely return.
Wanted a nice dinner w/o a big crowd and noise. We just drove in from The Woodlands area and the Pelican Club was perfect. The food was awesome and I had the Saved wine which was really good. We sat at the bar to eat and our bartender was really friendly and we enjoyed visiting with her. We liked that it wasn't the normal tourist spot.
We wanted to have a good dinner in Galveston. Open Table ranks Pelican Club #2 restaurant in Galveston with lot of good reviews. There were 3 of us the party. For starter, we ordered the red snapper, Gumbo and the chowder. The red snapper and the chowder were excellent. The Gumbo is good but not so special and it is too salty for us. For the main course we have the salmon and the scallop. Overall the food is very good. The service is outstanding as the waitress who served us is very friendly and made us feel very comfortable. The restaurant indicates business casual attire, but I noticed it allowed shorts and sander dinners in the restaurant which make the restaurant not as elegant and it spoils the ambient.
A unique restaurant in this era of noisey rushed dining even in the finer places. Atmosphere great, service perfect and the food was great. It was classy but still friendly. Reminded me more of European dining where dining and conversation are possible. The only improvement that would be nice would be live background music, jazz or solo sax to add to the atmosphere .
We were not expecting dining at this level in Galveston! The Pelican Club does not disappoint on so many levels. The decor is beautiful, the service is exceptional and the food is out of this world. Interesting cocktails, comprehensive wine list. This chef is special .
It is advertised as "best rated" in Galveston??? Where does that come from?
And "Gaido's Food in an upscale setting"? Upscale setting maybe, but there is a separate
kitchen, the food and food quality has absolutely nothing in common with Gaido.
We tried the Gumbo which was just a broth with nothing in it, certainly does not qualify as Gumbo.
From moment of entry greeting to goodbye - a fantastic experience. It was our anniversary and a reserved table was set aside and decorated for us. We had an entree as an appetizer then two excellent sea food dishes for the main fare. The bread pudding dessert was a nice "gift" for our special celebration. Staff was very accommodating from turning overhead music down to checking on us, constant filling of water, removing completed plates, etc.
We will return and bring friends.
Caution to locating the PC since the speak-easy history theme continues with no markings on the exterior of the build to let you know you arrived.
Excellent find. From other reviews it is hard to find but it would be easier to say that it is behind Gaidos. The food was excellent and nothing can be said otherwise. The wine list is very select but on the money when it comes to pairing. My wife and I typically share meals but we dicided to taste both from land and sea and ended up not being able to eat it all. I would make a suhhestion of eating the steak but they change their menu with the seasons which is great. Never get bored with this place.
As part of Gaido's, we knew the food was going to be great. The dinner exceeded expectations. The setting was quiet and comfortable. Service was outstanding. Well made cocktails. Hors D'oeuvres were fabulous, along with entrée selections. I highly recommend it for an upscale dining selection in Galveston.
I don't think you can go wrong with any choice on the menu. I had the Parmesan Encrusted Snapper and my husband had the Beef Filet and we ordered the Mac N' Cheese sides and the Deviled Eggs - we wanted to try everything! Everything we tried was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. The service was outstanding as well!
We had not been to the Pelican Club since the changes have been implemented making it open to the general public and new menu. The dining area is attractive and quiet. It was nice being able to have a conversation without background noise. Both my husband and I had the Parmesan Encrusted Red Snapper served over creamy risotto and it was excellent.
