One of our favourite restaurants in the area, always superb food in lovely surroundings with excellent menu.Good for special occasions.
Anniversary dinner, dining room very dark and so difficult to read the menu, staff unable to make the room brighter. Problems getting chefs and waiting stuff, hence small menu and staff not able to remember what they were serving... Only cold desserts, choice of 3! All in all, the local Pub would have been better value... Disappointing!
Once again an exquisite experience. Service attentive, polite and efficient. Food delicious. Ambience perfect. We will be back.
The lunch Table d'Hote Menu offers three courses for c£27 which is reasonable for the standard of food presented. However a 250ml of Sauvignon was a whooping c£14……making the overall meal expensive, especially for a lunchtime.
That said we will be going back.
We thoroughly enjoyed dinner at The Peacock last Friday, the food and service were excellent.
I was really impressed with the care to continue with covid safety measures as this is something that seems to have slipped at many other restaurants!
Food was great, staff also very good. Lovely hotel.
Food superb but would have liked more veg. Price of sparkling and tonic water exorbitant. Background music intrusive, bass beat, inappropriate for setting and clientele. Other than price of soft drink good value, half-size main portions a good idea.
The food is very good quality, portion sizes are small (if you have a big appetite), prices have gone up 30-40% post Covid which makes the cost extortionate in my opinion. Staff were very nice.
I will not return or recommend.
The Peacocks was a delicious experience. Must say, the sommelier Oliver made our night. The pairings were possibly the best I've had at any restaurant around the world. Certainly I have never had such expertly paired dessert wines before. The only reason I didn't give full marks marks everything was that some of the waiting staff, perhaps a bit younger an less experienced, didn't explain the food on the tasting menu in enough detail and one also placed the first course down whilst my husband was in the bathroom... I would expect a place like this to note this absence and wait the 2 minutes with the dish. The food however was exquisite, even for food I would not usually choose from a menu.
All in all I would come again in a heartbeat, especially if Olicer is the sommelier that evening...!
A perfect Birthday lunch as usual.
Greeted with a beautiful card on the table, which was a really nice and personal touch
We had the lighter lunch, which is excellent value for money for 3 courses.
The food is very high quality, and the service was second to none.
I cannot recommend this venue enough.
We enjoyed three nights in this cosy bar, with great food and service! Exceptional - thank you.
Myself and a friend had a really lovely lunch. Service was great and the 3 course light lunch was perfect. Also covid system in place was very well done.
Beautiful surroundings and fantastic service
A wonderful evening at The Peacock. All staff were friendly welcoming and knowledgeable. The food was absolutely amazing - in fact our lamb main course was historic. We thoroughly enjoyed our night and are planning a return soon.
Excellent fine dining menu, attentive and knowledgeable staff, beautiful setting.
Service was brilliant- staff very attentive.
Food was lovely tasting & well presented but just lacked something for us
Beautiful restaurant and a wonderful Sunday lunch, succulent beef and lots of lovely vegetables, wonderful to go back there after such a long time.
Excellent food. Well presented. Decent wine list. Good service
Lovely service , prompt and polite. The food was also delicious. Ambiance was quite lacking , maybe some low level music in the background may have helped so that we weren’t listening to people’s conversations during the meal as the room was very quiet
fantastic food in a lovely hotel - staff couldnt have been more friendly or accommodating
We had a delicious meal in the bar which is very atmospheric. The service was very attentive and safe and the food was very delicious. There was a good choice and obviously made from fresh ingredients. A lovely experience
Few other diners, so little ambience. In the bar, which was not made clear on booking. The food was fine, but overall a very expensive bar meal.
Table in the bar was for two was booked but we were sat on a table side by side facing the bar. Very difficult to have a conversation and needs to be sited better for an enjoyable dining experience. As you must be aware there is no mobile data signal and yet we were not offered a wifi password to assist in viewing the online menus. Food was excellent and waiting staff were good. We were advised to pay the bill at the reception desk and unfortunately were initially presented with an incorrect bill before requesting a detailed bill before paying.
Being a sunny May bank holiday, seemingly every motorbike in England was passing by the hotel, which somewhat marred the otherwise lovely and to be treasured experience of sitting out in the totally beautiful garden. You can also sit inside in a very well ventillated space in the dining room with the French doors and windows open. Top attention paid to social distancing, hygeine and covid monitoring. The traffic noise on a more normal day is not like this. The service was excellent, & the drinks at the Peacock are always very good. The menu construct is classic and well balanced, with healthy choices. I'd be happy if there was less variety. Being super picky, the meal wasn't what I call super fresh tasting. This is always the hardest thing to achieve, field to fork etc, especially on a bank holiday, and the serving staff were still finding their feet post lockdown, versus looking relaxed but getting their timing absolutely perfect, so you neither feel ignored or rushed...I think I took longer to eat my soup than they were expecting. We will go again, and much enjoyed our lunch, 2 courses plus petit fours & coffee, mineral water, americano cocktail, generous glass of good rose, 1/2 carafe of red for £106.
A delightful first post covid dining experience. Courteous staff and good use of covid rules. The menu was not long but covered all tastes. Food was presented beautifully in terms of colour, textures and flavours. We certainly intend to dine here again.
Really enjoyed the lunch I had , excellent food and service
It was great to have lunch once again at the Peacock. The last time we contacted them was for lunch on New Year's Day, which of course was cancelled. But hurrah, it was back to normal yesterday, and everything, and everybody. was as good as ever. Keep up the good work!!!!

Great to see the Peacock open again - it’s been too long. Four dined from the lighter lunch menu. Great value. One had the vegan lunch menu and all three courses were superb- not an afterthought. Staff are lovely. We’ll be going again soon.
Not as good as previous meals there. Not good value for money. I know it is not cheap there, but in the past the food has been exceptional. This time it was only 'good' therefore not justify the price.
No problems recieving service depite arriving very early.
We have been to the Peacock many times and the wait for it reopening has been long. Excellent meal to celebrate our first meal inside a restaurant for 7 months and didn’t disappoint. It’s one of our favourite dining out places. Thank you
We enjoyed our final dinner before lockdown in the safest environment, the food was superb and the service attentive in a safe way, we look forward to our return after lockdown.
Great food. Lovely to sit on the bar. Very relaxing
A fabulous meal. Michelin Star standard food served with excellent wine.
Excellent food. The flavours work very well together, the dishes are often unusual and change on a regular basis.
Lovely setting with good ambiance despite Covid restrictions. Very enjoyable experience.
Great food, great service - this really is a special restaurant and hotel. The vegan options were delicious as was everything else! I hope it’s open again before Xmas.
Fine dining in beautiful and relaxed setting. A wonderful lunch followed by coffee in the hotel's very comfortable lounge made it very difficult to leave!
Exceptional and innovative food choices from local sources backed by first class service in a warm and freindly historic building. Very highly recommended.
Great food, superb service, lovely atmosphere and fabulous wine. All that's missing is a better whisky collection - try adding an Oban or a Cardhu at the very least!
Wonderful food served very well we will definitely be going back
