The Patio on Goldfinch Ratings and Reviews
Cutrently my favorite restaurant. Sean at the bar is not only a fabulous bartender, but also very nice with a pleasant demeanor.
The newly added smoked duck was delicious. I miss Mary’s Chicken removed from the menu. Not only was it delicious, it was a healthy portion as was/is the broccoli. I don’t know if the broccoli remained on the menu (do not remember seeing it tonight), but it is absolutely delicious as well.
The Grizzly Folk is far and away my favorite craft cocktail of all time.
I usually enjoy this place but everything was off this time. Several menu items were missing (including several happy hour items... here’s an idea: if you’re out of one type of rum, make the drink with another similar type of rum... you have a wall of options!). If it was one item, I’d understand, but when you have 4 missing items and become irritated when we ask if there are similar things replacing/subbing for them, it just makes you look bad. If you’re in transition, then update your menus to match. It’s paper. Printing it is easy. Our server was unfriendly and unhelpful and seemed to just want us gone. We felt rushed the entire time even though the place was not packed. Food came out cold, and the chicken on the Caesar salad was room temperature and dry as a bone. I was embarrassed for bringing my friends there.
We've been to the Patio before, and it's usually perfect. This time we were a little later than usual (9:20 PM on a Sunday), and while it was quiet and fairly empty (expected), the service was a little below expectation, and the food was definitely not what the Patio is known for. I can forgive our server, for while there weren't a whole lot of people in the place, she appeared to be the only waitress still on duty. It isn't that she was bad, just that with as few patrons as there were it seemed to take quite a while to get her attention. I had the braised short rib, which I have had there before. Maybe it was because it was the end of the night, but it arrived a bit mushy and it looked like it had sat under a heat lamp for quite a while. Again, I realize there were probably extraneous factors, but having frequented The Patio, I guess I just expected something better. This will in no way prevent us from going there in the future, but we'll probably go before the movie rather than after.
The food was delicious as always. However I was very disappointed with the service. I waited for at least 15-20minutes with an empty water glass multiple times, even after requesting water. We waiting 30 minutes for the server to come back to take the bill even when we tried to give it to someone else and they said they would send the server to come get it. Despite the delicious food I will think twice going back at least when it’s busy because of how poor the service was.
The food choices were eclectic...shrimp and cheese grits? four us took 10 min to find something that looked attractive.
We ordered a steak well done, and emphasized to the waiter that was a solid desire. The steak was bleeding it was so rare and the waiter didn't even notice. sent it back and all they did was char the outside, the inside still raw.
Our waiter was not attentive to our needs .... actually groaned when we pulled out one of their gift cards.(?)
Won't go back there
Have been to this restaurant before. However, we prefer to try new places based on various Open Table recommendations. But this particular night we went back specifically because it was offering a 1,000 point bonus. Despite arriving right on time and being only two of about 10 people total in the restaurant, enjoying 2 great dinner and beer/wine, we never got our points. We contacted Open Table and they said to wait 7 days. It had already been 3. Now it's been 8, still nothing. This happened in the past. We are contacting Open Table yet again. If the restaurant honors its advertisement, then we will give a proper review. Until then ... buyer beware!
Loved the ambiance and decor. We tried a variety of seafoods, meats and cheeses.
Spinach looked great, not great.
The mussels were good, the broth very good.
The octopus good, foods with it, not good.
The cheese/meat plate was very light...not a good value at all. It supposed to serve 4...I'd say 2.
Server was fun and friendly.
We'd go back
The service here was absolutely awful. We were seated on time for our reservation, but after 30 minutes of being completely ignored and not even having a glass of water in front of us, we were just getting up to leave when she finally came by and took our drink order. Drinks came out in random orders, coffees not refilled after she asked if we wanted more and said, "Yes, please". Two of our four entrees came out and then rather than going to get the other two, she walks to the table next to ours and takes their order! It was another 10-12 minutes before all 4 of us had our food together. The food here was excellent and the atmosphere is great, but that service really ruins the whole vibe for a fun brunch out.
I love the charcuterie board. The food and service and drinks are great, a little pricey for what you get. Their happy hour offers great deals and on Mondays it’s all day.
Meat and cheese board ❤️
Shrimp and grits- just ok
Bolognese- just ok
Dessert with the ganache and pistachio ice cream. honeycomb- yummy!
Santanico pandemonium ❤️
Oaxacan old fashioned ❤️
The Patio has classics dishes with unique ingredients. Came here for restaurant week and was super impressed with their overall menu. Their cocktails have fun names and delicious ingredients. The ambiance is beautiful without being pretentious, had valet parking and in general was just great.
This was my second time dining at The Patio, both times were dissapointing for several reasons. This place is way to expensive for what they are offering. Yes it's trendy, yes the ambience is there, they come fill your water glass as soon as you sit down ( which btw is a no no in San Diego), but there food is just so so.
Last time I went I waited 45 minutes for a Beet Salad that had two beers in it the size of cherry tomatoes, 45 minutes! It wasn't that great of a salad and as I liked around the restaurant and the kitchen I could not figure out why it took so long.
Working in restaurants all my life I realize things happen so I joined my friend and gave this place another try. Poke Tacos. What a joke. More like cabbage tacos with four little cubes of ahi on each one, four total, $22. We were attacked by bugs while we were eating and left with huge bug bites. The restaurant was maybe a quarter full and again, it took forever to get our flatbread and poke tacos. I'm all for the slow food movement but this was rediculous.
The positive, our server was wonderful! Very nice.
We were excited about going back to The Patio but were so disappointed in our dinners , especially the Short Ribs. The pasta was fair and the burger ordered with no onions was smothered in onions! We won't be going back any time soon. I hope it wasn't a new chef but just a substitute chef!
When we checked in for our reservation we were told to wait outside for 10 minutes. When we were finally shown to our table the service was extremely non-attentive even though the restaurant was half empty. Food took forever to arrive and then getting our water glasses filled was almost impossible. And on top of that our special occasion was not even acknowledged. We have gone here many times and I doubt we will return given the poor service.
When we made the reservation, we requested indoor seating and let them know that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived, the hostess was too busy giving water to two large dogs on the patio to greet us right away. She then tried to offer us a table on the patio right near one of the dogs. I don't dislike dogs but I also don't think they belong at a nice restaurant. I declined the table and let her know that I had requested an indoor spot. Her response "that area of the restaurant is sort of closed right now, let me check". She eventually sat us in the back and the saving grace is that it was quiet and we had an area all to ourselves. Other than that and the food, the rest of the experience was underwhelming. Not one person acknowledged that we had made reservations for a birthday. I won't be back.
An evergreen favorite. My pup and I frequent The Patio on Goldfinch about 3-4 weekends a month. I love their indoor/outdoor patio ambiance. I missed not seeing Kimberly this week. My girlfriends and I had a great time with lots of laughs!
Thank you as always!
