The Pass Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I took a work colleague and his wife to dinner as a thank you for a very large favor. The food was incredible, and proven so as one in our party is a less adventurous eater, and was won over to new experiences with each dish. The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived until we left--truly one of the best meals we have had in our lives. At the high cost, it won't be a regular stop for us, but if you're looking for a special experience and incredible quality, you won't be disappointed.
Reservation was booked over 2 weeks in advance, yet we were forced to wait over 45 mins for our table and even with that it took 3 separate requests to finally get to our table. Additionally, when we checked in right on time, we were told that they were just setting up our table and that it would take a few minutes, which ended up being over 45 mins. No explanation given for wait other than they were busy and no concessions made. I've been here several times over the years and it has become more and more pretentious as the food has worsened. We will will never go back.
All three of us agreed that the meal we shared was one of the best we'd ever eaten. I last ate at the Pass during its first year, and that also is in my top five best meals ever. Everything about it was fantastic, from the food to the wine pairings to the service to the ambiance. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
My husband had been wanting to go to The Pass for a while. We decided to celebrate his retirement and went last weekend. He had 7 courses with wine pours and I had 6 with just a couple of glasses of my favorite wine. Each course was beautiful and the flavors were excellent, including the ones that were new to us. There was an expected delay between courses as the chefs were working very meticulously on each plate. It gave us an opportunity to chat a little with the couples seated around us, and that was nice. I said it was good for a date because you do get that extra time to chat and get to know someone better. The wait staff was knowledgeable and very attentive. All in all it was an excellent EXPERIENCE all around. I capitalized that because it's not just about the food -- it is definitely an experience, and as far as we were concerned, it was worth the price tag, which might be daunting to some. If you choose The Pass for date night, make sure it's a date you really want to invest in.
The Pass was great before. The move to pare down their tasting menu to five courses was a great decision. It allows them to focus on five courses versus nine. We opted for one of the additional courses, the hay-smoked pork loin, which was carved at the table. An excellent choice. The Pass is a great place to celebrate a special occasion.
The experience and service at The Pass were truly outstanding, but I have to say, the food really didn't blow me away. It was incredibly creative, and very pretty to look at, but it fell short when it came to taste. Nothing was bad, necessarily; just not worth the hefty price tag, in my opinion. It was cool to go once, but I can't say that I'll be back any time soon.
Service is stellar. The pace moves faster now with the revamped menu and you can get in, seated, drinks ordered and 5+ course tasting menu started from start to finish in under 75 mins. Amazing new pace and quick work of the new menu, but same great food, presentation and services. Menu is seasonal, but very well done and tasty -- you leave filling full given the unique dishes that come out.
Great Value for a tasting menu! My wife and I went to The Pass on a date and loved it. We each had the 5 course omnivore tasting menu and added 2 more plates for us to share. We also had a wine pairing and a mixed beverage pairing between the two of us. The first course (King Crab) was creative and interesting, but was not as good as we had hoped. Everything went up from there. The flavors, textures and presentation of the following courses were great. We loved the Testo course (add on) and the trio of belly course. The drink parings we had were a lot of fun as well. Our wait staff was a lot of fun. They enjoyed talking to us about the dishes and the drink pairings which made the event even more enjoyable.
The Pass is a great value for a fun evening and dining experience. 5 unique dishes, 5 drinks, an attentive wait staff in a fun environment for $105/person. Highly recommend, and I do not know of another place like this in Houston, TX.
A lovely evening to celebrate a family birthday. Very inventive menu. The staff is superb. Very knowledgable. Always attentive. Be prepared for a leisurely meal of delicious multiple small plates - 5 courses + extra courses to order if you so choose. Quite high end but worth it for a very special evening.
This was our first visit to the restaurant but won't be the last. We did the tasting menu with wine pairing and added the supplemental courses. Even though I left incredibly full, I'm glad we did. The egg course was great but the gnocchi was probably my favorite course on the menu. The pace of the dinner started a little fast but slowed as we got through the first couple of courses. I prefer a slower meal so was appreciated. The deconstructed gazpacho was inventive and other course presentations were great. The wine pairing brought in some interesting options and complemented the courses well. Overall an enjoyable evening.
Fun setting, great service, interesting food. I'm a light eater and felt hungry, wish there was bread or something to graze on between the meals. Food was interesting and good overall but does not compare to any tasting menu I have had in NYC, so the quality and creativity could be kicked up a notch.
