Located in the historic Coggeshall Mansion in Downtown Los Gatos, The Palms truly is an unrivaled sensory experience. Our Victorian Queen Anne building was constructed in 1891 and has housed a restaurant for more than thirty years.
The appetizers were good. We had fresh oysters and sashimi. My wife and kids really enjoyed their entrees. They had the filet, salmon and lobster risotto. I had the ribeye. It was over cooked and underseasoned. I hated to do it, but had to ask for salt. The desserts were good and it was also very good service. I think i would give it another try, but maybe try the seabass next time.
Great. Beautiful side room. Great waitress!! 😊
Blackened salmon was over cooked. Calamari appetizer good and steak enjoyed by my husband.
The Palms exceeded our expectations. The ambience was quiet but relaxed, and the food was really great. I had the Macadamia Nut-crusted Mahi Mahi, which was delectable. My wife had Blackened Salmon which was also excellent. The restaurant has a decent list of wines by the glass, and interesting cocktails. I tried "Forget Marianne, where's Ginger?", which was quite spicy and very tasty. We're looking forward to coming back when the weather is warmer and we can sit out on the veranda!
Good food and service. We will come back for another celebration.
Excellent food and great service. And the restaurant is elegant inside and out! We will be going back.
This was just alright. The place has a lot of potential but just doesn’t seem to try very hard. Slow service and meh food. Presentation was just ok, food needed salt and could have used something to step it up a bit. The dining room would feel a lot better with real chairs and table cloths instead of fancy deck chairs. It feels like the decor is a bit confused between aspirations of fine dining and being stuck as a tiki lounge.
We had a reservation for 5 for Valentine’s Day for dining room seating at 7:45 p.m. We arrived 15 minutes early and waited for our table as the party of 5 before us were just wrapping up. When it was time to be seated, they said the guests were still lingering a bit and should be done in 5-10 minutes. We offered a bar seating location but it was noisy and not appealing for dining. So we waited and waited and waited...and the guests were not leaving and it was at least 30-40 past our reservation. Even though they offered to seat us upstairs and we accepted, they took back their offer as it was too complicated to assemble a seating for 5 and the other diners would be inconvenienced. So this is the main reason for the lower rating on the service. Our server was very nice and efficient. As for the food, although portions of the food was great, other areas was poorly executed. The prawns and fish dishes were great, but the calimari and chicken were off. The ice cream dessert was amazing.
Loved it, was even able to watch the Sharks game in a nice atmosphere !
Great experie ok. ....................,,,,,,,
Great food and wine selection. Nick was our server and was a phenom. Always there but not obtrusive in providing service. Pricey but overall excellent.
Our first dinner at The Palms. Passed by a few times and glad we came in. Restaurant was a little noisy but not loud. Every dish was plated well and we finished everything. We even ordered dessert which is rare. Overall, it's a 4 star rating and we'll be back to see if it's a 5.
We had a very nice get-together with 6 friends in a quiet alcove - really very nice ambiance. Food was excellent, from the grilled Branzino, Tataki Sashimi, seafood linguine to the wine. Definitely a place to go to again and to recommend to others.
One of our many dinners at The Palms. Service was excellent, prompt without rushing, our waiter was very knowledgeable and we tried their new dessert based on her recommendation- bananas Foster. It was amazing! I have new favorite dinner, the tiger prawn dinner. Light yet satisfying, layers of flavors and textures with a hint of Thai. The poke bowl and sea scallops are also family favorites. Great bar- love the pineapple mule!
Awesome - loved it. Yes its pricey, but it's amazing and the serving size doesn't disappoint. We had the oysters - super briny - yum, followed by the SeaBass over Soba Noodles and Bread Pudding for desert. Great wine list by the glass too - huge.
It was a wonderful experience, food was simple but good, burgers etc. Drinks were good and sitting outside was amazing. I love it but wish the food was more creative and more selection. Still the atmosphere made all the difference.
I've always loved this beautiful old home in downtown Los Gatos, but had not eaten there for some years, since before The Palms opened. We were not disappointed when we tried it out. The current arrangement is bright and open, which is pleasant but a little noisy, with hard surfaces and the tables relatively close together. Service was outstanding from start to finish. Drinks and wine were solid, and we all enjoyed our dishes. Price is very reasonable for an upscale restaurant in the area.
Lovely service, delicious birthday dinner. Scallops done to perfection.
My parents took me to brunch for my 29th birthday, and I am so glad we came to the Palms! I have always admired this beautiful restaurant - the service, drinks, and food were superb. Highly recommend this place!
Great service and excellent tasting food. Best restaurant in this location for years!
We dined at The Palms on NYE by recommendation of a friend for their nice ambiance and good food. None in my party had been there before, so we weren't certain what to expect, but hopeful. We get it's a busy night, but we left underwhelmed.
The basic gist was this:
1. The restaurant felt over-crowded with tables. I watched not only members of my table, but other guests and staff struggle to navigate through the tight passages between chair backs. Several times the staff had to move plants around to make a clearer pathway for people to walk. It was as if they added more tables for the busy night.
2. Food = just okay. The coconut shrimp appetizer was very good, but everyone agreed their entrees weren't anything to be excited about. My steak was under cooked, my partner's salmon was overcooked, and it took a very long time to get our meals. We saw guests who sat after us get move on to dessert before we had our entrees. The desserts and coffee drinks were good though!
3.Service wasn't good. Our server disappeared on us several times. First was when I asked to move to the table behind us so we were less crowded, again for easily 10 minutes while we were looking at the drink menu -- by the time she came back, we all knew what we wanted to order for dinner. And she disappeared again after our food came. My steak was under cooked, but since she didn't come by the table again until it was time to clear plates, I couldn't tell her. We had to flag her down for a steak knife for me, and water refills.
We all agreed it seemed like the restaurant bit off more than it could chew for a busy evening, and sacrificed service for more tables.
Amazing food like always.
Not great food.
Great service though!
Ups: Excellent food. Meats well flavored and cooked. Veggies fresh & crisp.
Downs: Bar (3 loud drunks) & massive TVs dominate & degrade experience. Overall tables and arrangement is more Diner and less fine-dining.
We enjoyed a great meal here after a Sharks game. Unfortunately, they were not seating outside, but inside was nice and cozy and lively. Our server was very good and was patient with us when we were trying to decide what to order and gave us some great suggestions. We ended up having the grilled scallops, the salmon and a burger. All were excellent, though the scallops could have been hotter.
Our first time. Beautiful property. We had calamari which was excellent. Moved on to arugula salad. Delicicious. Sea scallops were huge and tasty for dinner. Bread pudding for dessert. Yummy
We enjoyed our meal at this restaurant. The food still needs some work (it was mostly bland), but the service and ambience were great.
Food was okay. The octopus was outstanding. Everything had a spicy edge to each dish. Not noted on the menu The Seafood pasta was very good. The Chilean Seanad was okay
The setting is very nice. Old mansion
Lovely outside, inside downstairs I feel like I’m in a cement block. Lacking in ambiance. No linen table cloths, chairs are uncomfortable. Just lacking for what the outside and formal pricing presents.
Food is very good.
It wood be helpful if the waiters were better educated on the wines, or if there was someone that could be sent to the tables that was.
I will be back, but not as often.
I have watched The Palms since it first began its life as a renovation and have been so eager to try it since it opened. I was not disappointed at all when we went to celebrate my birthday this weekend. Our server was so attentive and sweet and the food was amazing. We had incredible poke bowls, the mouth-watering Palm Burger, and some really incredible beef. Our cocktails were also so delicious and made us feel like we were in Hawaii!
I definitely recommend dining here!
Nice variety of seafood items. Good option for those trying to eat healthy but want a cocktail or wine.
The food was absolutely astounding! and our waitress was fantastic! When we arrived we were not too sure how it would go as our hostess tried to sit our party in a very busy area near the bathroom when there were other more private tables available. She didn't seem to happy when we asked to sit at another table but we were accommodated. Our waitress was very nice and inviting to our party of four (we were celebrating a birthday) and she was very knowledgeable about the wine! The food was so delicious, we could have easily eaten the entire menu. We were a little bummed that the restaurant made no mention of the birthday even though we stated it in the reservation but we would come back for the food.
We had a very nice evening. The service was great and the food was excellent. I even got a great free birthday dessert
i had requested a window seating, that was not acknowledged. they did bring a birthday desert which was a nice surprise! the service was great, the food came out in a timely manner.
Our food was excellent - appetizers (vegetable tempura was generous and delicious) and entrees. However, the guy who "checked us in" was also our waiter, and he was a real negative. Example - he only managed to bring *one* dessert menu ... for four people. We had to ask several times for more water. Both courses were served to only 3 of us, with the 4th person waiting several minutes. And then I got an Open Table email saying I hadn't shown up for my reservation. WHAT? When I checked in, I not only gave him my name, but told him the reservation had been made on Open Table.
The service was good. The food was well prepared, served warm and tasted great. The octopus appetizer was very spicy almost overpowering for the delicate taste of the octopus.
Friendly service and great food and cocktails!
Great food in a great location. We will definitely be back. Loved the octopus appetizer.
Whether you dine inside or out, this place feels just right. Comfortable, welcoming and well staffed, you can enjoy a drink and some appetizers or a full on dining experience. The menu is varied enough to guarantee all members of a large party will find something suitable. Chef Andres knocks it out of the park with seafood dishes. The stuffed halibut special was amazing and the flavors of the scallop with ginger mushroom risotto with crispy leeks were spot on. Kudos to our wait person, Marie, for expert service, even when it got crazy busy. The bartender does a fine job on martinis, too!
