The Palm West Side Ratings and Reviews
In 3 minutes time, one server seated us and handed us menus, another asked if we had questions and while standing there, another started to give us tap water and I said, "Whoa! We'd like Sparking" and the server waiting to answer questions looked confused and I said rapidly, "No one ever asked us what we preferred." Quickly they all became quite attentive and courteous. Slow down folks! No, we weren't headed to the theater, don't rush us, we want to enjoy everything. And we did for the rest of the time. Food was hot and good, my Scotch, totally overpriced. Won't order that again. Dessert...donuts...yummy.
Great tasting food. Large portions. Could probably share and be enough. Took some home and had enough for lunch the next day!
Enough space to be comfortable and have a private conversation. Convenient theater district location.
Took some friends from London who enjoyed the American fare.
Only negative, a table where I could feel a draft from outside.
Terrible service by our waiter who acted as if we were invisible. He appeared to be giving more attention to tables ordering cocktails and wine, as their bill and his tip would be higher. I dine out a lot and am not a prima donna customer, so it speaks volumes as to how poor the service was that I feel compelled to write this review. My experience may not be reflective of other diners' reviews, as it was solely the result of one waiter. That said, I would never go back to this or any other Palm, nor would I recommend it to a friend -there are far too many other great steakhouses in NYC where the wait staff are much, much better.
The Palm never disappoints. The food is good, the portions plentiful, the service attentive. Probably one of the best things about The Palm is that it is consistent; there is no fear of ordering something new or different and being disappointed because that just never happens here.
We went for my wife's birthday. Jill was the best server that we've had in a long time, at any restaurant; she was friendly, attentive, helpful, had a sense of humor and knew what to recommend from the menu. The assistant GM, Erin, came over to our table a number of times to make sure everything was just right. Even the busboy, Kameron, did his job professionally and was very attentive to our needs. Don't listen to any bad reviews! Would go back in a heartbeat!!
Service was great but was disappointed with the food. Been to other Palm locations over the years and found that this didn't measure up to past experiences. Everything was subpar. The meat was over cooked, seared too hard and too longs. The creamed spinach had course unmelted parmesan in it. And the clams casino was bland . Pretty sad all around. We were there to indulge but if I'm spending over $350 for two people I would hope to get more value for my money.
We had a later lunch at Palm West on Jan.15 before going to Opera for my husband's birthday. The food was good and the service was excellent. The waiter put our cake slices on one plate with candles on top and berries to decorate, the presentation was very beautiful! Will go back again soon!
We had a 10:45 pm reservation Saturday night but got stuck in traffic. We called ahead, ordered on the phone, and they served us even though the kitchen was officially closed! We really appreciated this kind of service--we're loyal Palmists though we'd never eaten at this one!
Arrived on time for our reservation but there was a 30 minute wait to seat. No real problem. Once seated it too over a half hour for any waiter to begin our service. The food was very ordinary and not up to the standard of the previous reviews. Seafood was dry and bland and the steak was not done properly. For the price this experience was not worth it.
