The Palm Washington DC Ratings and Reviews
Hadn't been there for some time due to no longer working in DC but it has stayed the same. The food was very good and the waiter that we had was excellent. There when you needed him but not on top of you. Made excellent recommendations. Would certainly ask for him on our next visit.
My only negative comment would the size of my filet. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered the 9oz. When it arrived, I was surprised. It appeared to be more of a 4 - 5 oz. For the price, it was disappointing and certainly unexpected. I would usually send something like this back but we were celebrating my Wife's birthday and didn't want her to have to wait for my dinner. It is not unusual for me to order a 9oz filet, so I do know the difference.
We have eaten at the one in Tysons Corner before and really enjoyed it, so we decided to go to this one in DC. We ordered the same thing that we had ordered at the Tysons Corner location so I do have something to compare it to. We ordered a Caesar salad with anchovies on the side and they forgot to bring out the anchovies. We asked the waiter to please bring the anchovies and he must’ve completely forgotten because he never did bring them. The place was not busy at all so it was not that. We ordered he I he tuna and it was smaller than the ones we have ordered before and was not all that special for the price.
This has been my friend's favorite restaurant for many years, but I was disappointed in our meal and service. My friend was served a warm beer, my filet was overcooked (I ordered medium-rare) and the sides were mediocre at best. It used to be DC standard and a place to see and be seen, but I won't be going out of my way for The Palm.
While the 3-course lunch offering is an excellent value at $26, my New York strip steak was significantly undercooked. I requested "medium" and received it "rare," with a cool center. It's the kind of issue you could expect from an ordinary restaurant cooking steak, but certainly not from a steakhouse. Left very disappointed.
Celebrated my husband's birthday at the Palm. I heard such great reviews about the venue and braced myself for the cost because everyone would reiterate how expensive it was. In actuality it was not expensive at all. I'm from New York and the cost of a meal at the Palm is relative to that in New York. My husband had the Wagyu steak and said it's the best that he's had in his life. That's saying a lot because he is a steak snob . He, however, thought the bear on tap wasn't great. He's a beer snob, too. I had the Hallibut with spinach and asparagus. Everything tasted great. Our waiter was very friendly and nice. When it was time for the birthday singing not all of the staff looked into it. In fact, one of the waiters cleaned the table behind us as he sung the leading role. Aside from that it was a good experience.
The Palm lives up to its reputation. From appetizers to salads to steaks and seafood to dessert, everything we ate was very good. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list and helped us choose a delicious bottle of wine. My only complaint would be to check your bill - a “ first time customers” we were presented w a “welcome” appetizer which we did not order but we did not turn it down when it was placed in front of us. Unfortunately we were also charged for it on our bill.
