The Palm Washington DC Ratings and Reviews
We had a GREAT dinner at The Palm on Sunday 14 January! From the Tomato Capri to the great steaks (highly recommend the blackened NY Strip!!!) and the 3 cheese au gratin potatoes and finally to the fresh donut holes for dessert (definitely get 2 cups of the raspberry sauce - it is way better than the chocolate!) - this was a great dining experience. This was my second visit, and the first for my date - and that Palm is awesome as always! I can count on a wonderful meal when I come to the Palm! And our server, Becky was terrific!!!
My business colleagues and I love The Palm. We get a TBone Steak, an Italian dish, a huge Caesar, creamed spinach and tomatoes and onions, together with a dozen oysters, we we split everything. A Martini and a Good Bottle of Red, and we are happy as clams. Johnny Fever is the best waiter ever although he was out on Monday and we a great new guy, who we loved. Watch out Johnny!
Great night out for my husband's birthday. The staff gave my husband and I top-notch service and care. He had a birthday card, singing, and ice cream. Nice touch, pleasant atmosphere and great service. Pricey, but worth it! The sides are huge. We couldn't even enjoy dessert.
We come here every year for our anniversary. We were highly disappointed this year. First we were seated in the ‘porch’ area next to the window.. when we asked to be moved inside (you could feel the cold wind through the cracks in the window) the hostess said ‘we have a booth all the way in the back if that works for you’ so she took us past at least 50 empty tables to position us in the back of the restaurant. I felt like the hostess was rude, the food was mediocre, and we just couldn’t wait to get out of there. We will not be returning next year.
Held a 2 week reservations, made specifically for the lobster for the New Year. Was not informed that ANY lobsters were not available until after we were seated and our drink order was delivered. UNSAT. I would have preferred a call from the restaurant once they knew lobster would be unavailable. I certainly would have (and should have) canceled the reservation had I known.
Service was outstanding. Our fillets were ordered medium and they came out closer to well done. The waiter as well as the manager apologized and immediately replaced them with filet done correctly. The manager also offered another side complimentary but we did not need that much food. Would recommend.
Was visiting DC and picked the Palm based on what I know of it in NYC. Looked at some of the other steak places and this had the best reviews. Overall, met my expectations although we did have to send the filet mignon back twice - hostess was very gracious and did the right thing by us. Sides were delicious, particularly the au gratin potatoes. Bone in ribeye was cooked to perfection. Waiter was very hospitable and I would go back again.
The food was absolutely cooked to perfection! I had the 24oz prime bone-in rib-eye steak and hash brown potatoes. Everything was delicious. It was so good when the excellent waitress came to check on us, I could only answer her questions with "mmm" and a head nod. 5 stars!!
We were served generous portions of superbly prepared seafood, beef and Italian cuisine. The wait staff was very professional, and performed their service like it had been choreographed. The seating was uncharacteristically spacious for a downtown DC restaurant. The chop chop salad is terrific opening to what is sure to be a memorable meal, and you can't go wrong with any of the entrees. The side dishes are generous enough to feed 4 hungry diners. The one sour note was the din in the main dining room. The banquet manager apparently decided it would be fine to accommodate an office holiday party by partitioning the main dining room with 4-foot tall dividers . There were about 40 loud, boisterous and possibly inebriated guests who raised a racket so obnoxious that it put a damper on what was otherwise a wonderful dining experience. We literally had to scream at one another across the table to be heard. We have been dining at the Palm on December 21 for years. This was the first time I regretted to decision to eat there.
At The Palm, you expect good food and that's what we were served. Excellent salads and crab cakes for a festive holiday lunch. But the experience was marred by a noisy packed dining room, made worse by a raucous group of a dozen men at a table in the back. Next time we'll ask to be seated at the front.
The Palm has been a favorite of mine for almost 40 years. Nothing nouvelle, nouveaux or fern bar about the classic American fare. The steaks and other offerings -- especially the lobsters -- are always perfectly prepared. The wine list is extensive and reasonable (not cheap though) and the service impeccable. Oh and did I mention the bountiful cocktails are also perfectly mixed and outstanding. Plus you never know who you are going to see at dinner or "on the walls." Reasonably good food. Friendly and efficient service. Overpriced and noisy place for the red meat eating male crowd, especially those paying with the corporate credit card. My wife was one of two women I observed in the otherwise crowded dining area. Ceasar Salad very good. All items are a la carte, thus, a $35 Chicken Parmigiana (which was good) is served without pasta. The pasta, a $10 additional item, will be linguine, and only linguine, as that is evidently the sole pasta option at this supposedly Italian restaurant.
