The Palm Too Ratings and Reviews
New Year's Eve, probably not the best time to go to a restaurant for the first time. We had to wait 25 minutes past our reservation time for a table. Then we waited for at least 10 minutes before our drink order was taken. Steaks were a disappointment. One was under cooked and had to be sent back to the kitchen. The other, a filet mignon, was the toughest I ever had. They did have champagne, hats and noisemakers at midnight.
A huge disappointment The Palm was my husband’s favorite restaurant at one time and he is been in many all over the country This time the poor service ruined the experience My husband ordered a cocktail and the waiter brought it before he even brought the wine list for me and my daughter Plates were dropped on the table haphazardly and my daughter sat with a pile of dirty dishes in front of her until my husband called someone over to take them away Neither water nor wine was poured The food was as it always is - very good - but not worth coming back for Too many other wonderful places to go
We were a party of 5 for Christmas dinner. Based on reviews in Zagat and Open Table we frankly expected a more "formal" setting, recognizing that it is still largely a Steak House. We were dressed up (jackets & ties, elegant dresses, etc. since I had also called in advance and was told a jacket would be the norm and a tie optional but not required). The décor and ambience is interesting, but somewhat dated and a bit tired overall. The clientele was for the most part very casually dressed in slacks and blue jeans, although admittedly that seems to be more and more the case everywhere. There is plenty of space between the tables, a good thing, allowing for easy conversation.
The food and wine had mixed results. Everyone loved the main courses of steak or salmon, although the steaks are WAY too big. The sides were fine. However, the appetizers were very disappointing: The Caesar and Blue Cheese salads were absolutely drenched in dressing to the point they weren't really edible beyond a few bites. The wine list is quite limited and they were out of stock the first selections of both the Red and the White. Service was very friendly and the waiter really tried his best.
Bottom line, a casual neighborhood steakhouse rather than the landmark "Top End" type of place recorded in Zagat 2017.
Used to be the best steak house around. Now at the very bottom of my list. Service and ambiance were good but thats where it ended. NY strip was way undercooked than I requested (medium and it was very rare). Additionally, the quality of the meat was horrible. Bacon appetizer was all fat. You expect fat on bacon but this is the worst I’ve ever had. Bottom line, a major disappointment from past Palm experiences. Too much competition out there and at this price level I will NOT return in the near future.
Maybe my expectations were too high. Steak was good, but no better than Ruth's Chris, Vic & Anthonys, or others. Chicken parm was good. Chop salad was terrible. Was over chopped. Almost emulsified! Service was slow. Plates sat on the table way too long. Prices were a little high for what we got.
We go at the Palm every time I crave for Lobster and it is just superbe!! Steaks also very good and our Italian tall Italian server was very knowledgeable and friendly!!
We love their carrot cake and we usually by the whole cake to go for our dad but not this time....
Guess what? He gave us a slice to go from the house!
That’s customer service! Grazie e a presto!
I normally leave good reviews for most restaurants, but i was totally disappointed in Palm Too. I was expecting a lot better food as they are so renowned, but its a lot of hype for nothing.
My girlfriend and i walked out with a $150 bill and it was a total waste. I had the chicken parm, a Palm signature dish....nothing special, you could get a better one at the local pizza place. My girlfriend had the Seabass, she hated it after two bites.
If you’re thinking I’m one of “those people” who complains about the food because he doesn’t like the price - I’m not! I don’t mind paying for food, I frequent other nice restaurants and I’m in the food business and appreciate what goes into it. So it really isn’t about the money, just more about the disappointment of it not being worth the money. I should of gone to Sparks, Bobby Vans, or Capitale Grill.....
Overall a good atmosphere but very crowded due to the holiday season. The food was very good, large portions; although I felt like my lobster salad could have used less arugula and more avocado. The bread and desserts are really good. Go by yourself or with a group. The bar area is pretty small.
I've been eating at The Palm or one of their spin offs since I was a child. I have fond memories of a lamb chop lunches with my father and evening meals with both my parents after a enjoyable day in NYC. The food is always consistent, an steak house in it's own right but with character and a unique ambience. Even though it is always hopping the service is on point. Friendly waiters bring orders promptly and in a manner that shows they truly enjoy what they are serving and their customers. They take the time to give you daily specials and explain any questions you might have. While some streak houses have declined over the years The Palm and Palm Too are not one of them. I would say The Palm is among the most American of what is certainly a most American experience, that of a steak house. Hearty flavorful foods that were just ideal on a snowy evening in NYC.
Waited much too long for a table even with reservation. Matre'D did give us complimentary dessert and after-dinner drink.
3 lb Lobsters were not meaty and my partner therefore was hungry. We ordered salad to start, side potato and stringbeans (yummy) and dessert - key lime pie.
We will probably return since we love the Palm.
This was one of the worst meals had for the one of the highest prices.
The waiter mixed up the orders and despite a nearly empty restaurant an appalling wait. One of three steaks was good, one mediocre and one was poorly cooked, both part under cooked and part over cooked, leaving it barely edible even after it had been sent back. This was one of the worst dining experiences of many, many years.
Saturday night dinner during December. Reservation was on time and seated in bar area where we requested. Service is professional but personal and attentive. Food was excellent, Steaks and lobster, clams casino, and green beans were all executed perfectly. My only criticism and this may seem petty, is the bread and rolls are cold, refrigerator cold. Warming the bread would improve the dining experience.
