The Palm Miami Ratings and Reviews
Waiter forgot to put order for steak. Then, it arrived at the wrong temperature. The waiter put it in the bill! I expect a steakhouse to make it at the right temperature always. Finally, when the bill was corrected. The waiter got upset with me. Not worth the hassle for the money.
It is always a special treat to dine at The Palm in Bay Harbor -- next to Bal Harbour near Miami.
However, this past Saturday presented all the diners with a most unusual situation. It was a very busy night for the restaurant for an "off season" Saturday evening. Near the beginning of our dining experience, with a completely packed house, the restaurant lost all its power. Despite their best efforts, there was nothing they could do to alleviate the problem. To their credit, the restaurant "comped" our drinks and salads (the only portion of the meal served), and the house was emptied (around 8:30 pm).
My only point for registering this "review" is to express surprise that the restaurant does not have any back up power generating capability. Given the S. Florida electrical situation (severe thunderstorms during the rainy season, etc.) I am very surprised as to this oversight.
After last Saturday evening's experience, perhaps management will rethink this situation.
We ate at the Palm to celebrate a birthday. I guess since we are not regulars they sat us in a small room off to the side of the main dining room. I didn't like the table. It was extremely noisy at the restaurant and the small room was claustrophobic. The food was ok. The carrot cake was delicious. The service was good.
I would have enjoyed the evening more if we sat in the main dining area.
Looked a little dated but our waiter was terrific. Good suggestions on wine. Went wit big steak and big lobster for table. Lot of apps and sides. Presentation of steak and lobster was first rate. Hot towels after dinner a nice touch too
Ordered porterhouse for two, prepared medium. Received steak that was medium rare, with cold center (steak was thick 2-2 1/2")
Waiter could clearly see steak was mis-prepared while presenting to us, but acted like everything was fine. Sent back - and was presented this time closer to medium well. Shame to have ruined a good steak with a horrible preparation. Chef should be embarrassed to not have steaks come out perfect every time - its simple math - that is repeated dozens of time per night.
I wasn't satisfied with my filet mignon stakes.
I asked for medium well. & it was definitly not medium well. It was straight rare on the inside.
I left over half tge stake uneaten because of the rareness.
But i don't complain in most places because 90% of places will offend you & will say well ok sir. We will tak3 it off ur bill..
& that's why i dont say anything. I came to order & pay for what i order just want it done the way i ordered it.
Always great, even though they missed the fact that it was my 60th birthday. And our anniversary. Even though I noted this when making the reservation. Filet on the bone, sea bass stuffed with crabmeat, clams casino, salads and sides all great as always. Service was also great as always. Perhaps I was expecting too much (although restaurants like Shula's and even Bokampers know that it's your birthday before you arrive), but as an 837 Club member and frequent diner who specifically mentioned this when making the reservation (on Open Table) for dinner on a milestone birthday which is also our anniversary and then telling the waiter that I would also like a glass of champagne from the bottle which we ordered, even though I was still enjoying my cocktail, because we were going to toast should have been a clue. All I expected was that they would acknowledge the two occasions and wish us well, but instead they wished my wife a Happy Belated Mothers Day on the way out.
Excellent steak and cooked perfectly. Sides also were excellent making the meal very special.
The atmosphere was quiet and very inviting since the tables were not on top of one another and just far enough apart to enjoy our conversation . One word of advice, there are some people with hearing devices and sudden loud noises are very painful, such as Happy Birthday sung at very loud shouting levels by the waiters. By all means sing Happy Birthday but Tone it down a bit please.
Palm is usually one of my favorite places. The food was very good and the service was excellent. So, what's the problem. We were seated a little late but it was Easter Sunday so that's not incomprehensible but we were seated at a booth that was so confining it was just plain uncomfortable.
Always trouble being seated at a desirable table. Even when you have a reservation, they try to force you to have a drink in the bar and wait. Then, unless you tip the hosts, they show you to an obnoxious table. People that arrive without reservations, but re willing to tip the hosts get seated right away. This is no way to run a business. The NY Palms are not run in this grabby way.
That being said, the food is great, cooked to order and I finally found a good red for just under $70.
