The Palm East Hampton Ratings and Reviews
After 40 years of going to various Palm restaurants, we has a less than satisfying experience. The Brussel sprouts were mush, the fried onions over cooked, and when the porterhouse for two was served, it was delivered on a dish that had no drippings to spoon over the meat, and the server did not offer to put the first slices on our plates. The meat was cooked as ordered and very good. This was a disappointment with a sizeable bill at the end. Seems things under local control are slipping here.
While the Palm is well known and has a great reputation. We were very disappointed- and here is why. We ordered a 3 lbs. Lobster to go with our 55oz. sirloin. The waiter asked if we would like them to split it for our plates. We said sure that would be nice. Lo and behold all that was left was a half tail each. Both claws and knuckles were completely empty. The removed all the meat for other dishes they serve. When I held up the claw and said what is this -they immediately brought out to "new" claws with partial knuckles. They then gave some BS excuse that the lobster must have been molting- REALLY! I was not born yesterday.
Overall, I did not feel that the $400+ we spent for 2 was worth it. Our server wasn't very attentive and we felt rushed. Had to ask for bread twice. Table service (clearing etc.) was virtually non-existent.
We took home the leftovers. When I removed the 3 cheeses potatoes from the bag, the contents ended up on the kitchen floor. Whoever put the food in the tin container didn't bother to crimp the edges closed - so much for a descent leftover dinner at home.
I live locally and have been to The Palm on several occasions but this was very a very disappointing evening. Maybe a holiday like Christmas Eve just isn't the time to go?
Andrew and Sheila are always welcoming when you come through the door. The steak and sides are delish, and your waiter always cracks your lobster so that you don't have to wrestle the seafood in your white pants. Fun to people watch and wonder who is sitting next to you that is obviously famous, and you remember seeing them in a movie but your forgot their names. Since they don't take a reservation for two, no worries. Sitting in the bar area and watching the latest sports final is always fun. All in all, a great evening.
We are eating at the Palm once or twice a month since the summer crowds are gone. Food and service are consistently excellent, while so many other restaurants in the neighborhood disappoint. We shared both a three pound lobster and their signature Gigi salad as these are our Palm favorites. We love the way we are treated here
The food was excellent....that being said, the restaurant is way too noisy! Could barely have a conversation at the table. (we did seem to be seated by every family with small children)
We ordered sautéed onions for our steak and the waiter clearly forgot to put that in so we had to wait for them as our steak was getting cold.
Love the Palm, especially in the off season. We ate there with friends and shared both appetizers and entrees. Three of us shared their “steak for two”and it was more than enough and perfectly prepared. Compared to most of the new restaurants in the area, the Palm gives you a generous portion size in all they serve, including drinks.
As with all Palms, you cannot go wrong if you order steaks; they are the best you can get anywhere. The rest of the menu can be very uneven. The service at this Palm is much friendlier than that of the original Palm and the prizes are higher, but you are paying for very high quality beef, lamb, veal and lobsters.
The Palm East remains a classic steakhouse with top notch food and service. Compared to the NY original, the atmosphere here is more like a comfy country club or elegant B&B. The service is less NYC brash and bossy, and more attentive, inviting and accommodating. When I'm in the Hamptons, I try to have at least one meal here, if my credit card can handle it.
The Palm is one of our local favorites and we eat there more off season than during the summer season. Service and food are always excellent, and now their prices seem reasonable compared to some of the new restaurants that come and go here. New favorite appetizer is their coconut scallops, and last night we shared their NY strip steak, first steak we've had in over a year. It was worth the wait as it was prepared perfectly and more than enough for the two of us.
They also offer two sizes for their wines by the glass, which is a nice touch
Server was excellent and Sheila is always welcoming
This restaurant has always been a standout in the Hamptons. Steak and lobster tail combo deal could not be overlooked. Sides are fabulous and the filet mignon is the most tender and delicious I've ever had anywhere. All selections are simply the best to be found.
For over 15 years, only Garrett has been my man and words can't describe the professionalism, personality, and attention to detail he has provided for every visit. His presence creates an anticipation. There's none like him.
The service provided by Garrett was excellent. The drinks also excellent.
The NY Strip Steak we had was not up to the usual Palm quality. It was. A little chewy. Also as we were finishing our salad the waiter's assistant brought out steak knives. We then asked for space between courses. (Should have done that earlier. When the steak came out 15 minutes later (appropriate space) mine was at room temperature which essentially meant out food had been sitting for 15 minutes.) Finally one of the people sitting at the next table was loud and talked a lot. We thought about saying something but decided it would probably cause a scene, so we didn't.
