Afternoon Tea
Perfect For:
  • Afternoon Tea
  • Special Occasion
  • Good for a Date
Tea has been a long tradition at The Drake, a Hilton Hotel. The Palm Court began serving Tea during the holiday season of 1982 and has welcomed the worlds' most prominent guests such as Princess Diana, Queen Elizabeth, and the Empress of Japan. We look forward to adding your name to the distinguished list.

The uniqueness of the beauty of the room centers around a gorgeous limestone fountain with a giant urn as its center motif dating 275 years old, this French bronze by designer David Williams. Most importantly, the ambiance of this afternoon affair is greatly enhanced by the live harp music performed Wednesday through Sunday by our musicians dressed in classical evening gown attire.

Ok but past it’s prime. For the price, the food was ok but not worthy of a repeat.

The staff made this very special for our daughter because we notified them ahead of her food allergies and they were able to make different but equally delicious food items that she was able to eat! The harp music was lovely as was the beautiful spring flower arrangement in the center of the room.

We chose to have tea at the Palm Court after church on Easter Sunday. The service was absolutely outstanding, we were welcomed immediately and had a perfect table by the fountain. Although I thought that the tea sandwiches were tasty, I felt that they were a bit lean with the amount of food, so I hope that the next time we have a heartier fare. The scones were delicious as always...can't beat the strawberry preserves, lemon curd & clotted cream. Will definitely go again.

The ambiance of the Palm Court is pure class and rich! High tea is a wonderful experience that anyone who likes beauty and elegance should take part in. The sandwiches and pastries that come with the tea are delicious; they have vegetarian offerings that are quite tasty. The seating is 1 1/2 hours which is a nice length of time to relax and enjoy the tea, the harpist and the room. This is a splurge that should be experienced by anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere.

The staff was exceptional meeting our special needs. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer two hours in Chicago. Really!

Perfect for catching up with a friend, a special occasion or just to pamper yourself. Elegant decor, very attentive staff and plentiful tea and food. We had tea at 3:00 pm and didn't bother to eat dinner. They really encourage you to take your time to savor the experience.

I hadn't had afternoon tea here in years so I was really looking forward to it. The place was busy which considering the cost I figured it meant the food was still good. I was wrong. The actual tea was good but the good was pretty awful. The ambiance is nice and seemed like a nice place for mothers and daughters but unless the food improves give the place a pass and try another location for afternoon tea.

High tea at the Drake is an iconic Chicago experience. The space looks as though it has not been changed since the fifties or sixties, which is cute but also reveals some aging. The service is marvelous, and all of the staff is attentive and kind. The food, however, leaves something to be desired. The bread was dry, as were there loaf cake and the scone (more than a scone should be). The house bubbles taste cheap. One does not get what they pay for by way of food or drink, $49 per adult. It's still a Chicago experience, albeit for those who can afford it (or splurge). If you have money to burn, I'd recommend it. For those who are more mindful of your budget, skip it. The Sofitel's pastry are far superior... You'd probably spend less there.

The live harpist was lovely. The service was top notch and the surroundings are steeped in history and elegance. The teas were excellent, fairly well prepared (though one might wish for the leaves to not be left in the pot to continue steeping) and of high quality. The food was beautiful but looked better than it tasted. Nothing tasted bad, there just wasn't much remarkable about it aside from the appearance.

I've been to the Palm Court several times now and it's always a fabulous experience. The ambiance is so special, the servers are fantastic, and the tea is delicious. The only drawback is the food, it's way over priced for what you get, both in quality and quantity. But overall a lovely experience.

As always, it's lovely to have a respite from the hub-bub of life in the city and spend 90 minutes having tea and goodies at The Palm Court.

The staff couldn't be more attentive and the ambiance is perfect.

Highly recommended!

I took my girlfriend here for afternoon tea for her birthday. I understand her birthday falls on St. Patrick's day but I found the amount of people allowed to flock into the restaurant, who weren't patrons there, and hover over our table to watch a performance uncomfortable and took away not only from the ambiance of the environment but the intimacy between myself, my partner, and our table.

The tea was fine but all of the food was really bad. The sandwiches were old like they had sat out all day. We didn’t eat the chicken salad or the fish because we were afraid of illness. On top of that because it was near St. Patrick’s Day, several food items were dyed green, unnecessary and tacky with what I thought would be a high class one of a kind experience. And then with tip it was $120 ouch!!!

The room is gorgeous. The staff delightful. It was about the romance and being in Chicago for us. Not the food. The tea was delicious and they brought me steamed milk per my request. Offered 2nd’s on all the yummies. Can’t beat the ambiance and the beautiful room. Loved it

I took my girlfriend for Sunday afternoon tea. We were seated directly in front of the harpist, which was a surprising treat. Every staff member was kind and attentive. The tea and finger sandwich menu was beautifully set. The ambiance and service were the two real highlights for me! I’d highly recommend this experience.

From across the room, the giant fountain looks spectacular, but being seated next to it provides a view of a bunch of un-lovely, rusty valves and way too much water noise. The room was loud and echoing, so we were subjected to the table behind us shouting to one another. The harpist provided a nice background medley of Beatles songs and popular tunes in 45-minute increments. Everyone around us was dressed up and taking selfies; they seemed to be having a great time. The waiter was rushed but helpful. The savories and sweets were the least appealing ones I've ever had at tea. Descriptions sounded great -- curried cucumber sandwiches! crab salad tarts! lemon meringue! -- but the reality was disappointing. Blindfolded, it would be just about impossible for me to tell the currant from the lemon from the pineapple. The lemon curd, the fruit pate, the jelly, everything was just sugary and flavorless. The presentation was also not up to par. Sure, there was a three-tiered server with scones, savories, and sweets, but I have enjoyed many nice tea services, and I found this slap-dash presentation a little alarming. They offered seconds, so if quantity is what you want most, you may find this tea service very satisfying. I didn't, though. I would wish for much better food and a more thoughtfully arranged room.

The Palm Court is a beautiful room with lots of great traditions. The Harpist added a special touch to a very disappointing tea. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday and she always wanted to go there. The service and tea were fine, but the food was terrible. CompRed to other teas, the offering were tired, old and tasteless they looked like they were popped out of a plastic container. The Drake. Needs to up its game.
