The place is old but they have designed the palm court beautifully. The tea was average but it is definitely an experience.
Lovely experience. Very diverse setting with a beautiful ambiance. The harp musician was one of my favorite components of the afternoon.
Ambience is great and heaving tea with my mom was wonderful. There was a harpist playing but be careful I almost fell when I tripped over the outlet the harp was plugged into during the harpists break
I love the Drake. I have been coming here for years for tea in the Palm Court. Recently, some food allergies have restricted what I can safely eat. The staff was very accommodating and kind.
Unfortunately, I am noticing some details that are starting to slip. The bathrooms themselves were very clean but the floors were dirty and dusty in some spots. There is broken equipment that can be easily fixed. Our tea set up was a bit rickety with wobbly appetizer stands. I would absolutely still tell a friend to go to the Drake Hotel! I just hope they start noticing the details again.
I've been to the Palm Court several times in the past and have always had a very enjoyable experience. The room is lovely with the fountain in the center of the room and there is a harpist playing on the weekends. You are served an assortment of sandwiches, desserts and fine teas. The wait staff is very courteous and attentive. It's a fine place for a get together with friends to enjoy some good food and conversation.
A most enjoyable time!
Mother's Day could not of been more special by spending at The Palm Court at The Drake Hotel. All you can eat and drink - hot tea and petite fours. Delicious mini sandwiches and desserts. Great selection of teas even decaffeinated. The atmosphere is the winner here. Beautiful floral arrangement in the court and quaint with pup chairs with small round tables. You can actually hold a conversation. The noise level was not too bad. Service impeccable! Highly recommend!
This is my second time traveling to the Drake for afternoon tea. The first time I was there the food was okay however the atmosphere made it worth the trip. This time the quality was poor. Scones were hard and looked like slider buns. My guess would be they were previously frozen. The food was the quality of a chain grocery store bakery. Finger sandwiches were just okay. Whoever is in charge of quality control should take a trip to the four seasons for afternoon tea and try to duplicate the quality of their pastries. I must admit this experience was very disappointing and definitely not worth the money!
Anniversary weekend, my husband was surprised that he enjoyed it, we especially loved having a full bar to add to our tea.
Wonderful afternoon tea service. Highly recommend. Would do again.
Wow! An unforgettable experience. 50th anniversary in a romantic spot, professional harpist, exquisite food, cheerful and helpful waiters, exotic flowers-fountain-decor, in an authentic old-world atmosphere. Spent the night at the Drake and enjoyed downtown Chicago experience. Would highly recommend to all looking for romantic escape, music, and food.
You want genteel, refined, sophisticated? Can't beat afternoon tea at the Drake (Palm Court). I met a friend there at 2:30, sat next to the fountain with the harpist a few feet away and had a delightful, chatty hour/hour and a half catching up, reconnecting and just generally enjoying each other's company, the tea, the scones, the finger sandwiches and the fancy pastries and desserts.
We were celebrating my birthday and they made us feel special. I bring all my out-of-town guest here and this time it was my sister. She has been here with me before and she requested having tea at The Drake when she visited. Everything was wonderful. The best white tea I've had in a long time and all the staff was fabulous.
Nice place with good tea service. I think it’s a bit pricey for what you actually get (ambience, snacks, and tea). But still a quiet intimate environment for talking and socializing.
The Palm Court is my favorite for afternoon tea. I've tried several other hotels & nothing lives up to the ambiance here. The tea, bites & service are always outstanding.
Great place for special occasions. The food and tea were excellent. The service by Amir was very good. We were celebrating a special birthday and he took it upon himself to serve a special cake for the birthday honoree. A harpist was also there when we visited and this added to the ambience. I would definitely go back.
This was the perfect place for afternoon tea with My husband for his Birthday. It was just like being back in London.
Our must stop spot when we are in Chicago! We love the ambiance and delicious treats!
For the price, I expected the afternoon tea to knock me out—or at least be as good as the tea I have had in smaller, less posh places. The tea sandwich selection was limited, and two of those I ordered seemed to have been prepared either earlier in the day or saved from the previous day, because the top piece of bread was slightly dry and shrunken, while the bottom slice was soft and fresh. The open-faced cucumber sandwich was beautiful but the tomato chutney took what is supposed to be a classic standby to an awkward place that was not quite right, like when you buy a new piece of clothing because you like it, without realizing that it does not work on your body type.
My mom and I had a wonderful experience having afternoon tea at The Drake.
We were celebrating a friend’s 80th birthday. We had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, the ambience was lovely, the server was very pleasant. It was a beautiful experience and our friend enjoyed her birthday celebration
What makes Palm Court special is the beautiful setting: the room is opulent and almost fairytale-like. If you can, request to be seated right beside the fountain. We enjoyed the harpist playing during the afternoon tea. It wasn't the best fare we've had for afternoon tea, and several of the servers behaved like we were a bit of a nuisance (they seemed stressed out for being so busy). The main drawback was that the room was very loud. I think my relatives with hearing aids would have had a hard time.
I took my mom to high tea for her birthday. I had asked that we have gluten free options and that we be close to the harpist. We got both of these. We had an amazing time. The high tea atmosphere is so elegant and beautiful. The tea was delicious and so were the finger sandwiches and pastries. The staff also remembered it was her birthday and sent out a piece of cake for her. My mom and I will definitely be back. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
Lovely tea service at the Drake. Beautiful surroundings, wonderful and attentive staff. The tea was divine as well as the sandwiches, scones, and sweets. Go hungry, they brought us extra sandwiches and it was plenty! A lovely harpist also played while we dined. We celebrated my birthday and the harp player played “happy birthday” and they brought me a chocolate cake with a candle. It was a wonderful experience and I cant wait to go back!
Ok but past it’s prime. For the price, the food was ok but not worthy of a repeat.
Great service and wonderful performance by the live harp player. What a nice touch
High Tea was very exciting for our granddaughter. Great adventure!
We went for my moms 60th birthday celebration and I was not impressed by it at all. My friends had told me this was 'the place to go' for a nice afternoon tea but it was way over priced for the experience we had. I would not recommend. The service was terrible and the food was basically lunchables and cookies from a box. The restaurant was pretty much empty but they put our party of 5 right next to a woman who was interviewing people. We had two young children with us and felt like we were intruding. The waiter didn't check up on us at all. I had to walk up to the bar to ask when things were coming out/if we could have more hot water/etc.
I have been to other teas in Chicago that I felt were more special and accommodating.
The best part of the entire experience was the nice and funny man who greeted us at the front door. If that says anything...
Great girls Sunday at tea!
The staff made this very special for our daughter because we notified them ahead of her food allergies and they were able to make different but equally delicious food items that she was able to eat! The harp music was lovely as was the beautiful spring flower arrangement in the center of the room.
We chose to have tea at the Palm Court after church on Easter Sunday. The service was absolutely outstanding, we were welcomed immediately and had a perfect table by the fountain. Although I thought that the tea sandwiches were tasty, I felt that they were a bit lean with the amount of food, so I hope that the next time we have a heartier fare. The scones were delicious as always...can't beat the strawberry preserves, lemon curd & clotted cream. Will definitely go again.
Very nice traditional afternoon tea.
The ambiance of the Palm Court is pure class and rich! High tea is a wonderful experience that anyone who likes beauty and elegance should take part in. The sandwiches and pastries that come with the tea are delicious; they have vegetarian offerings that are quite tasty. The seating is 1 1/2 hours which is a nice length of time to relax and enjoy the tea, the harpist and the room. This is a splurge that should be experienced by anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere.
Wonderful experience with my mother. Nice place to reminisce. :-)
The staff was exceptional meeting our special needs. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer two hours in Chicago. Really!
We had a wonderful girls day out for High Tea. It was a beautiful location and they catered to allergy food issues. The food was delicious and you had your own tea pot. I would definitely go back again.
Loved it. I felt like a princess!
We love afternoon tea at The Drake! Afternoon teas are a family tradition of ours and The Drake is one of our favorites. The service is excellent and the environment is spectacular.
Perfect for catching up with a friend, a special occasion or just to pamper yourself. Elegant decor, very attentive staff and plentiful tea and food. We had tea at 3:00 pm and didn't bother to eat dinner. They really encourage you to take your time to savor the experience.
Beautiful setting for high tea. Expensive, but excellent service.
