The Palm Court
The uniqueness of the beauty of the room centers around a gorgeous limestone fountain with a giant urn as its center motif dating 275 years old, this French bronze by designer David Williams. Most importantly, the ambiance of this afternoon affair is greatly enhanced by the live harp music performed Wednesday through Sunday by our musicians dressed in classical evening gown attire.

The wait staff was not friendly, just going through the motions it seemed. The waitress carrying the tiered service plates was carrying them down so they were near her feet and floor. Not a very appetizing presentation. The whole presentation in general seemed tepid. For $120 I was expecting a little grandeur, the food was tasteless except the coconut pineapple scone. The desserts were awful, o can get better stuff at Sams club. The cheesecake cup was warm like it had set out for a while before I got there. The ambiance was the only good thing going here. Except 2 business people were behind us going over a presentation. Overall I would not recommend this overly priced high tea experience.
I particularly like the ability to valet park for a reasonable price if you’re going to Hi Tea
This was my second time going to high tea and I thought the first time was better. The ambiance was great but the food was not as great as the first time. Overall, I would still recommend having height tea at the Drake.
We love our annual trip for high tea at the Drake. I take my wife, my mom and my mother-in-law and we all enjoy it. The service is superb and so is the food and tea. It's expensive but lovely for a special occasion.
The only reason I don't give it more five-star ratings is that the low tables are not comfortable, and this has been the case for all the years we've attended. The tables are heavy and you simply can't get close enough to eat without banging your knees into the heavy base. How about a little redesign so adults can eat more comfortably?
Spectacular setting!! As stunning as ever. Historic, well maintained seating area. Huge floral piece in center of fountain in center of room. Harpist was wonderful. Ladies powder room as upscale and unique as ever...private rooms with sink. Service was unobtrusive, friendly, efficient. Not rushed. Went the extra mile to bring a free birthday dessert WHILE the harpist played Happy Birthday. Very cool! Food was good, not as good as expected. Scones good, accoutrements were perfect, tea selection and temperature perfect. Sweets were good quality, not stellar. Finger sandwiches needed a little tweaking-some garnishes for the price as they were rather plain. Perhaps 1 or 2 more choices also. Was not a lot. Prosecco addition was good. Is expensive, expect to pay $120 for 2 people with Prosecco+tip+parking ($20-25).
special occasion place
We went at the last minute to celebrate a birthday. Tea at the Palm Court was absolutely lovely. It was quiet...with a harpist softly playing classical music in the background in an unobtrusive manner. Although the tables are in the open, it’s still very private at each table. We really had a terrific time.
I like to take my friends and family for a High Tea there. The last time I was there I noticed that the lady's room needs some updates.
The service and staff are all so attentive and kind. They make you feel like royalty. Such a great experience and such yummy Tea.
Always love High Tea at the Drake...Never disappoints.
Afternoon tea was great! They even brought us extra sandwiches. A great way to treat my Mom for Mother’s Day.
Lovely tea experience. Could have been a little more food for the price.
It was great! Our server Amir was lovely and helpful. The harpist was great. Our water and tea were kept full and the food was delicious. Thank you!
Great for my wife’s birthday and my toddler daughter
A throwback in time. Great, experience for high tea.
As usual, the afternoon tea at the Drake is outstanding. Nothing is more civilized and relaxing than eating their wonderful food, listening to the harpist, and just relaxing. An experience not to be missed
Afternoon tea was delightful for my Grandaughter and me !
Such a fun new thing to do! Probably will only do it once because it was pretty pricey, but glad we did it once!
Went for high tea on a Friday afternoon. Very lovely afternoon.
Amazing food and service was outstanding.
Amazing assortment of finger sandwiches and desserts. We didn’t get any tea during our visit, however the martinis were great!
Love the afternoon tea ambiance, but it's very pricey for what you get. Did appreciate that our waiter gave us seconds on the savory 2/3 of the tea sandwiches. Did not appreciate being sat in a booth that was super dark. The main center of the room is well lit, but off to the sides it's extremely dark--too dark for afternoon tea. Felt like nighttime! Would request a different table next time.
Tea and the service was superb as usual, but the room was extremely warm and humid and made our experience rather uncomfortable. Not the kind of climate you would want to drink warm beverages in.
Lovely atmosphere but food was average to below average. You are paying for the atmosphere. Very courteous servers.
I take my girls to Christmas Cabo every year and this is a must tradition for us.
We attended afternoon tea at The Palm Court. We really enjoyed it and even though it is a formal setting we felt at ease. Wonderful teas and good food. Nice and friendly waitstaff.
Fabulous, memorable afternoon! Harpist was lovely as were the surroundings.
The food was wonderful, the staff was friendly and attentive, and we had a wonderful time.
Scones and Other baked goods were a little dry.
A friend from out of town was visiting, so we thought of course we'd take her to high tea at the Drake. However, her chair was so crammed in next to the chair at the table beside her, literally LESS THAN 12 INCHES AWAY, causing problems when someone needed to get up and go to the restroom, that I thought, "Really, Drake Hotel? $45 isn't enough per person -- you've got to cram 'em in so you get even MORE MORE MORE $$?" The food was also a bit stale tasting, as if the tea sandwiches had been sitting out all morning. However, I think if we'd had the room around our table to feel like we were having our own intimate little get-together and weren't literally in the laps of the people next to us I might have thought we'd gotten bang for our buck. No, the Drake wants to cram you in and charge you $45 because it's the Drake ($45 for parking, too -- so we did not park there) and serve you lackluster crap that probably cost $5 to put together per person.
It was sweltering and the food was mediocre at best. The tea itself and the service was nice, but they didn’t make up for the rest. I would not recommend, go to the Allis instead
We celebrated our daughter’s birthday with tea at The Palm Court and it was fabulous!! I highly recommend especially if you want to experience what a high tea is like in London. Everything was delicious!!
My mother in laws birthday. She had a great time. My gf has food allergies and server was able ton immediately give her options. Great experience and lots of fun
A wonderful afternoon tea with family during my stay at The Drake. A real treat.
Great server—Sead. Delicious little treats. We felt fancy!
Great girl event, for 2 or 20!
We went to tea at the Palm and found it very underwhelming. It was insanely expensive to get a few small tea treats in an overcrowded, loud environment. The ambiance had lost its flare. There were diners in jeans and crop tops and others in shorts and gym shoes. As if they just popped in to spend $50 on a quick tea and treat. The food was only ok. Some treats and sandwiches were great and others only ok. The tea was fabulous but some I my group expected more options. I Don’t see returning anytime soon.
I was really disappointed with tea at the Drake. I have been in Chicago for 14 years and have heard about "tea at the Drake." While the Drake is charming in that Old World way and the The Palm had a nice atmosphere with the florals and harpist, the food was beyond disappointing. While the tea sandwiches were homemade, they were not impressive, the bread was more like Wonder bread than a bakery bread I would expect. The scones, muffin and desserts were all pre-made, frozen items. For $45 a person I expected homemade food and creativity.
The service at the hotel was great (valet and door person, host), however, our server was average. I did not feel the high price of some white bread sandwiches and frozen cakes was worth it.
A unique experience fun for family.
It’s was huge day for us. Finger food was on point. Tea was great And server Azmeer (Ameer), cannot think of his name, was very kind and very knowledgeable and caring.. thank you very much very clear!
Definitely will return!!
