The Oyster & Fish House
The menus at the Fish House are built around the long-established, personal relationships that Mark Hix has with his suppliers and use only responsibly produced, carefully sourced and simply served British seasonal ingredients. The Fish House also serves by-catch fish and seafood, supporting local Lyme Bay Reserve fishermen.
The wine list reads as a charming tour of the local vineyards including Lyme Bay and boutique vineyard, Castlewood. Enjoy a local beer made locally by Palmers or Gilt and Flint, alongside a seasonal cocktail list showcasing local spirits.

Fabulous meal at Hix - very hot in the sun on the terrace - we were lucky with the weather!
Wanted to move out of the sun but were not able to even though other tables were free a shame
A lovely hidden restaurant with an amazing view. Friendly helpful staff. The food was delicious. We sat outside and loved the atmosphere and heater :D
Fabulous location with enormous potential let down by overcooked fish and mediocre service. We ordered the fresh fish dish which turned out to be mackerel, John Dory and Monkfish. The mackerel dominated the plate and was beautifully cooked but the others were overcooked leading to tough and rubbery monkfish and dry John Dory. The outside area needed a good clean and was troubled by seagulls stealing from the bins and plates. We witnessed the smoked salmon being taken straight off the plates as food was carried out.
At these prices you need professional service staff and chefs and the team really let the side down. Book a table at Robin Wylde in the town to learn how to do it !
Food simple but great, as expected.
Splendid view in lovely relaxed surroundings. Staff friendly and helpful with advice.
Long way from home but would come again if passing through Devon/Dorset.
Excellent food, great service and fantastic views.
Love it here. Food and customer service always excellent. Rather noisy table next to us which cannot be helped.
Why no English white flat wine??
Mostly over the top prices and the best is that the staff are great.
Delicious dinner, dinner for four, with elderly parents. We had the ‘fingers’ of fish, the monk fish and the two fish for two platter. Every bite of every dish was perfection. Well worth all the good reviews - bit pricey, but absolutely worth every cent !
Great for drinks. Mark Hix should be worried about the food.
Lovely evening with my family for my birthday, beautiful setting , friendly staff. More choice of beers/ lagers would be good for people who don’t enjoy craft beers / lagers, otherwise a fabulous experience.
We had monkfish and the John dory the portions were excellent and the food was delicious we also had the salmonata starter which was also delicious but we thought the portion was slightly small.
wine list is very varied and we thought the house rose and Chablis delicious
Great place friendly, efficient staff good menu too. Wine on the pricy side though! Lovely to meet the chef 😊
Lovely venue for a special meal. Food was amazing, staff very helpful and the views were great.
Sea bass was outstanding, service attentive but not intrusive
Food excellent, service very friendly but a couple of omissions and misunderstandings. Still and sparkling water ordered but never turned up. Ordered 6 oysters 3 plain and 3 in batter but 9 arrived which were all eaten but naturally added to the cost of the whole meal. Evening got colder and we seemed to be only table without a heater.
What a lovely location. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. Excellent car parking nearby at Holmbush NCP
A lovely location overlooking the Cob and friendly staff. A bit disappointed with the meal
Food was nice but not exceptional considering the price
Lovely fresh white crab meat with tasty heritage tomatoes.
Fabulous turbot steaks with Cornish new potatoes and lovely fresh broccoli.
Desserts of home made apple pie with vanilla ice cream were both superb.
A faultless meal in a beautiful setting.
Would highly recommend!!!!
Great food good service very friendly would go again. 70 th birthday lunch.
Excellent mixed fish for two and the escalopes with chorizo for a start are to die for
The restaurant has a lovely relaxed feel to it. The views are magnificent. Service was attentive but not intrusive. And, last but not least, all the food we had was superb....cockle popcorn, crab salad, monkfish, oysters and lobster.
Disappointed having been several times before but food was average and service slow
The menu changes depending on the local catch. The food is produced to an excellent standard. The outdoor decking areas provides the opportunity to serve this excellent food but is dependent on the weather transforming the experience to a higher level.
This was to celebrate my husbands birthday with friends from London. We live in Lyme and frequent this place fairly often or certainly when we want to dine somewhere special. We sat in the new outside area which was very nice, great view and clean and comfortable. We ordered oysters, starters and mains. And bread. We received our oysters pretty quickly but then waited an absolute age for our starters but all dishes were delicious but a very small portion of bread! The mains came but without the side dishes, which we had to chase. We also had to chase to get more drinks. Overall, fantastic venue, food good but service was unusually poor; young people who appear to have L plates on! For £335, (for 4 people) I expect more.
Fabulous views. Friendly staff. Slightly slow service but that was fine given the views, we were in no rush. The food was good but the choice was limited. Again not a problem, for us and this may be to ensure freshness. Noisy children but we should not complain.
What’s not to like about sitting outside and eating lunch in this fab restaurant on a sunny June day, overlooking Lyme Regis Cobb. The menu is slightly on the fancy side for my simple tastes but my lemon sole was perfectly cooked and as always, for pudding, we all opted for our favourite credit crunch ice cream and hot chocolate sauce. Service was great.
Do allow extra time to find a parking space at peak periods.
This was our third visit and we have always had a wonderful experience. The food and service is amazing, staff very friendly. Will be here again next year
Staff not on the ball, table delay to seat us,left with dirty plates then only took half away. Food nice but not outstanding given the price. Had better meals, fish and seafood at local pubs in Lyme and staff were much friendly too elsewhere
Great experience - very happy and friendly staff. Food was really fresh.
Excellent location. The food is very good and the serice is outstanding. Possibly the best view on the Dorset coast.
Excellent food, ambience and location. Thoroughly recommended.
Lovely meal overlooking the beach. Red Mullet was excellent as was the shellfish soup. Trying the Fox their sister Pub this Saturday.
Food was fantastic, lovely staff, very knowledgeable & helpful & wow, what a fantastic view of the whole of Lyme Regis bay. Can’t wait to return
Excellent food and great service.
Many, many thanks.
Fabulous food, particularly starters and mains although I thought the puddings were disappointing, give them a miss and get an ice cream! Staff were brilliant and views were worth the price of admission!
Excellent food and service. Couldn’t fault it
Lovely food in beautiful surroundings.
The staff couldn’t have been more helpful friendly and well informed about the food.
Wonderful seafood in fantastic location with views across Lyme Bay
Lovely views over the bay , great food and friendly service.
